WoW? Lol. It’s a generic RPG. Also a buggy and glitchy one judging by the hour I’ve played so far. The iPad version is a mess, with iPhone-sized controls and inventory windows.

This is decent for the price, but watching people fall all over themselves and compare it to Elder Scrolls and WoW is highly amusing. If this came out on any other platform it would be skewered.

Something can be buggy and glitchy rofl and still be reminscent of something lmao much better kekeke.

Dude, stop playing that game, it makes you talk weird! :)

So, what’s the verdict on Dungeon Defenders?

It’s reminiscent of WoW in the same way water is reminiscent of fine wine.

It looks bad, Azurik-style bad.

Aralon doesn’t give a good first impression. The third-person camera is a bit wonky since you can’t look up, most NPCs have that Elder Scrolls “walking encyclopedia” feel to them, The beginning voice acting isn’t that great, the story line seems somewhat cliche…

HOWEVER, once you get into it, get into the main city, join some guilds, and start discovering other zones, the game really starts to shine. You’ll enter a library and read some books on the history of the world, you’ll join some guilds and get involved in a bit of political intrigue and quests that go beyond the usual fetch quests, you’ll discover zone after zone and realize just how massive the world actually is, you’ll even meet a few memorable npcs along the way.

Plus I gotta say, I never get tired of the thrill of riding my horse along the countryside.

It’s not The Quest with pretty graphics unfortunately, but it’s still a lot of fun.

The Quest is still my favorite iPhone RPG though.

Hey gang,

I’m having fun with the iOS version of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. It is a steal at 99 cents. There is a good variety of events and it controls well.

There is a large amount of expansion packs for The Quest in the app store, and it is kind of confusing. What is the best to get for someone starting from scratch? The Quest Gold?

How is the Mass Effect game that is on sale as well? Any good?

Terrible.

Not sure why, but there’s a “world” version of this that’s available outside the US and sure enough the price never drops. Rock Band is similarly immune from price drops (not that I’d ever buy that) so perhaps it’s a music licensing issue. Frustrating anyway.

I bought Super Blast on your recommendation a few weeks back, trashed your high score, and yeah I agree it’s a lot of fun. Just got the sequel, also trashed your high score, and yeah it’s even better. :) I miss the “NICE!” announcements though - the voice guy is a bit more restrained this time.

Yea, start with The Quest Gold. From there you can get into the other expansions if you like the game.

Anyone have any experience with Viking Lords? Thinking of picking it up tonight but I can’t find a lot of hands-on impressions.

Don’t get too smug, I barely even got started with the sequel! I still love the AWESOME! shouts but I hope they bring back the catchy music from the first game, the new tracks aren’t quite as good.

I played Aralon for a bit last night.

On the one hand, I will not argue with anyone who says this game is flawed. It is flawed. It’s missing an awful lot of polish; the thing that jumps out at me the most is that on the iPad, all of the menu and loading screens are obviously phone sized. It’s also a bit fatiguing to use the controls on that device; I think I might switch to the phone. The textures (particularly on faces) are pretty bad.

But. There is something here. The description of it as “single-player WoW” is quite apt. I could see this being addictive in a Diablo-esque way, once a bit of the polish issues are resolved. I plan to keep playing it a bit more.

I’ve played through about 5 maps in the campaign and a couple of skirmishes. If you like any of the Commands & Colors boardgames it’s an absolute buy. It is very simple, graphically, but the game rules are implemented perfectly.

THQ games are on sale for 80% off. Too bad most of them suck (especially since a lot of them are Star Wars games).

EDIT: Treasure Grab is worth it. And Falcon Gunner if you have a swivel chair. Haven’t tried Indiana Jones and the Lost Puzzles, but it’s supposed to be good.

Rage HD update is up! Gyroscope controls, GameCenter support and mirrored courses. There is also a museum mode where you can stroll through the environments without enemies and take your time to look at the environments (still on rails). If anyone has hesutated on this game, it is the best on rails shooter on the platform.

Battlefield Bad Company is also awesome. I have some issues with the controls, but overall it’s an amazing pacjage that is fully worth the 1$ price tag.

That Gameloft uncharted clone I posted earlier is horse shit. Graphics and “gameplay” are awesome, but uninspired level design kills it dead. They should have called it “Ledges: the game”, since all you do is shimmy along ledges, jump onto ledges and clim onto statues.

NOVA 2 is cool so far. I will post more impressions later.

Real Racingm2 is jesus sex. So good. Even at 10$ I strongly recommend it.

I have to wonder if anyone who described this as single-player WoW has ever played WoW or any other RPG, ever, because Aralon is not by any stretch of the imagination single-player WoW. It’s just a typical RPG with exceptionally lame loot and very basic talent trees, which makes it the anti-WoW. It’s not a bad game on it’s own merits, and looks and plays much better on the iPhone than on the iPad, but these WoW comparisons are ridiculous.

It’s reminiscent of WoW in the same way that grape juice is reminiscent of fine wine. They’re both made of grapes, but you’re allowed to have the juice in your car with you.

I have to wonder if Tracy Baker has ever read or used a comparison or understands their purpose. Cos Aralon has a lot going for it that is similar to WoW, systemswise, combatwise, questwise. And while it may not be (and most certainly is not) as ambitious, beautiful, or successful in its various goals as WoW, it is very clear that WoW is its primary source of inspiration. As such referencing WoW is a perfectly reasonable point of reference to use when describing the fucking game.

Jesus, man. Did the creators of Aralon shit in your gas tank, or are you just this much of a twit all day long?

Speaking of Aralon…

Yeah. And some of the tooltips are just plain wrong. In the iPad version it tells you that it only shows five hotkeys at any time but you can click an arrow to get five more. 'Cept on the iPad it shows all ten hotkeys, so there’s no need for an arrow.

What there is a need for is a goddam camera center button. Two different camera settings, one that never moves and one that sticks right on your ass, and they’re both equally a pain in the neck.

Also an ability to change the game’s options without logging out of your game.

Also the goddam screen should reorient to the way I’m holding my iPad.

Also, double tapping shouldn’t just run straight forever. Double tap should walk you to that location!

It’s a game with problems. I’m probably going to restart because I’m finding the ranger builds to be completely dull. But the team seems to be receptive, they’re already supposed to be releasing a patch, so I have hopes. Either way, I’m enjoying it every bit as much as I enjoyed Infinity Blade, but in a very different way.

Glad to hear you say this. I’m getting to a point where my concern isn’t cost of apps, but space on my damn phone. And Shadow Guardian is a half-gig!
