You might want to wait until a lot of the more expensive ones go on sale and monitor with a free app like AppShopper in conjunction with their website. Or wait around for $50 iTunes cards for $40 (or $25 cards for $20) that go on sale every few months (Costco has them at a slightly discounted rate don’t they?) as well.

Toucharcade.com and appadvice.com have regular roundups of what’s on sale. Toucharcade.com currently has a ‘best of 2010’ feature on right now. Slidetoplay.com is also another good review site you can sort by scores.

I put together my shekels from Christmas and with a combined birthday present effort I got myself an iPod Touch 4G 32gb. It’s a great little thing, and I’ve been loading up music, books and videos to watch in bed. There is one ballache of a problem though. Whenever I try and load a big file (so far a couple of the lite games I’ve tried to load) I get an error message about resource files being changed. I’m restoring the iPod to factory defaults to see if that’ll have an effect, and if not it’s going back to the shop. Which would be a pity. In the mean time I have at least a years worth of Touch Arcade to browse, and this thread.

To avoid this being a blog post (and because I want to know,) what are the best trade type games for the iPod Touch?

Aaaaand… My iPod is bricked.

Good job Apple. You’re restore system really works wonders.

They are not restore system.

it’s brand new. get it swapped at apple store. that should be easy.

I thought I had bricked my iphone on a couple of occasions while jailbreaking. I ended up saving it by getting it into recovery mode. Not sure if this will help you (or if you’ve already tried it), but it’s worth a shot.

If you want to save yourself a trip, first try putting the phone into DFU mode before you connect it. That’s the standard unbricking of last resort.

Annnnnd that’s what I get for opening a bunch of threads in tabs and then abandoning them for a few minutes.

Nope. That doesn’t work and I had tried it. It is very definitely and expensive brick. Sad when I had it less than 12 hours. But it’s better it dies sooner rather than later, seeing as it had problems transferring large files.

Don’t be sorry. I tried it again for good luck having seen your post and it worked (sort of.) It still has the problem transferring games. So I don’t know what I’m going to do with it.

What exactly are you trying to install?
How big is it?
How are you going about doing it? (itunes I presume)

I did a bit of googling and the only mention of problems related to resources being changed seems to be devs talking about packaging and testing their apps.

If I had a brand-new iPod that was having trouble, I would bring it to an Apple Store. They’re really quite helpful.

It’s all working fine, now. So I’ll leave it be, but keep the receipt at hand.

On another note, does anyone know anything about Gaia Games. I wanted to get one of the Sword and Poker games but none of them are available. Not the first, second or lite versions. And there website has a placeholder on the mainpage saying the site is now inactive. So if they’re bankrupt it would be a balls.

Damn, I still have my IPAs but I just checked and it says “no longer available” when I try to re-buy.

Quoted for ‘funny coz it’s true’ marital hilarity.

Adding value - just bought Warpgate, which looks like it will be fun once I suss the combat out, and the amazing Looptastic - seriously, if you have the slightest interest in music grab it and have a play.

Looks like the web site and the store page are working fine now (in the US anyway).

Can you actually buy them? Try buying the lite versions. Try to buy them and a message pops up saying that they’re no longer available.

Message on front says website is inactive. :/

My short review: It’s a wonderfully polished implementation of a terrible, terrible idea.

Terrible news, but I’m really curious about the circumstances. It’s almost inconceivable how a small studio with well-above average sales (S&P hit #2 on the US market, #1 in Japan) would go out of business, litigation aside. If they never released anything else, you’d think they’d still want to collect the (slight) revenue from their existing products.
