I dunno, boost is all about timing. It’s most effective if you use it shortly after hitting a wall, because you’ll get plenty of mileage out of that assuming you’re pointing the right way - it can easily double the distance you move. Boosting into a wall, even if the angle is good, is generally a waste because walls sap way too much energy. Spin on your disk seems to play a big part in how you bounce off walls, too, but I’m still figuring that out.

Is there any documentation for the game? I don’t know what all the powerup icons are for (learning them as I try them, basically). Also I’m not entirely sure of the proper way to flick. Sometimes I think I should go really far, and I don’t.

My favorite insane Welsh developer, Jeff Minter, has released his first iPhone game. So far I like it, though it took me a couple of minutes to figure out the control scheme.

Minotaur Rescue

Boo, only 3GS and later. I’m thinking it’s about time to upgrade my 2G touch.

Add me to the Disc Drivin’ queue. Username dennya.

Total noob – haven’t played a game yet, though I suicidally started one with krayzkrok figuring I could watch his expertise as I flew off into the ether.

Disc Drivin’ is fun, my first race kaosfere finished just after I finished my first lap but it was still a good time. It seems like whoever starts the race has a pretty big advantage, so be sure to start games and not just get invited. |^)

I just pulled a sweet “Go around a corner and then go invis just as you stop.” Takes everyone by surprise.

Just sent out a bunch of invites, I’m loving this game. I’m choosing random track, hoping to get Bumper Beware, especially if krayzkrok is involved.

Edit: My work buddy also just got this, send some invites to furtivespy if you need more players.

Finished Broken Sword yesterday and went to buy Broken Sword II. Which was when I got a little annoyed that Lucasarts has yet to stick any more of their games on iOS. C’mon guys, I don’t need a full conversion or deluxe edition of Secret of Atlantis, Grim Fandango, Full Throttle or Curse of Monky Island. Just release 'em!

There’s some rules, which are worth reading, at the bottom of this We Heart Games tournament page.

The flick is more nuanced than it first appears - the speed of the flick is clearly important, as is the distance you flick on the screen, and the angle. The direction arrow basically shows the direction you’ll go if you flick perfectly up the center of the screen, so if you’re a bit off you won’t quite go straight. I’m not sure if you can introduce “spin” by flicking in a slight curve, because that would be cool (and spin definitely influences bounce angle, as it should, when you hit a wall).

Is the best way to flick to put your finger on the disk and flick from there, or start behind it and flick through?

I just use the entire screen as the flick pad, regardless of where the disc is. So if you flick the entire length of the screen you’ll get the most speed out of it.

Ascendancy is out for the iPhone/iPad today
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ascendancy/id412523782?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D2

That we-heart-games page definitely has some useful info. I like the idea of a ladder/tournament too.

Do we have enough contestants?

Let’s find out!

Ascendancy! Holy shit, I would have never thought I’d see that game again, let alone ported to iOS.

That game had the most ridiculous, over the top intro movie I’ve ever seen. I wonder if it’s included in this release.

EDIT: Oh wait, it wasn’t Ascendancy. It was some other European space-conquest game that came out around the same time. Ugh… I can’t remember… the intro was like 10 minutes long of insane music and action.

EDIT2: Ah-hah I found it! It was “Imperium Galactica”

My name is FlyinJ in Disc Drivin’

send the invites!

See here, all you Disc Drivers! Pulling the tournament out of the general games thread. ;)

Also, holy crap, is this game deliciously addictive, and in a delightfully low-impact way.

promising space game.

Blast from the past! Did they finally add an AI to this iteration?
