Anyone played “Hamlet or the Last Game without MMORPG Features, Shaders and Product Placement HD”? Looks like it could be amusing, and the iPad version just dropped to $1.99…

Silverfish is pretty cool, definitely worth at least the reduced price of 99 cents. I’m even enjoying Sword of Fargoal now – not sure if they changed something in the updates or if I’m more tolerant of the fairly simple gameplay.

I’m loving Silverfish. Beat my Haste score Nahr if you dare. ;)

I can also recommend the flawed gem Surveillant. It’s heavily inspired by The Sentinel, which was an auto-buy for me, but it’s subtly different particularly in later levels. It doesn’t randomise levels which is a bit of a downer, but more are promised as free updates. Control sensitivity is also a little off until you learn to slide your finger to select a surface to jump to instead of tapping, but it’s being worked on apparently.

It’s worth pointing out I got Surveillant free on its first day. I’m not sure if it’s brilliant value at its current price, but keep an eye on it.

Ha, that’s easy, I already made over 250k points in Haste… looks at leaderboards WHAT THE FUCK!!

Surveillant looks interesting but I think I’ll keep it on the watchlist for now, until next update or two.

Anyone been playing the episodes of Cause of Death as they come out?

Bastards had me on the edge of my seat this week. And then they hit us with a damn cliffhanger! This is the closest they’ve ever come to getting another $.99 from me.

Of course following the rules of police procedurals, it has to be someone we’ve seen before. So I’m guessing it’s Shawn.

Yeah, I’m playing them. It’s been great. I’m thinking it’s the police chief – what with the political connection and all. Why/how would Shawn have connections to the creepy Russians? (Why would the police chief, for that matter?)

If you failed the latest chapter (and I did… twice) you’ll see Shawn disappears after going to Millbrook. I’m thinking he was trying to ditch out for the setup.

Though the connections bit is a bit tougher. And ‘is an FBI agent’ isn’t much of a ‘powerful political connection’.

Yeah, I saw that, too. Admittedly, Shawn may have interest in Natara’s profiling skills as a trophy or something… but the guy seem only just out of the hospital when the stuff in the game has been going on longer than 6 months (time since Shawn’s er… accident). I mean, the trophy room must have started before the Shawn incident.

Maybe it’ll turn out to be Eric’s mom.

Hey!!

Yeah I followed it as well so far and here is my suspicion:
The Senator’s wife is the Benefactor.
Why?

-> She worked for the Russian attaché in Moscow in the past (connection to Eastern Europe) and is familiar with mass murders (she mentioned that one killing spree in Moscow turned out to be the local police chief).

-> She is not at home and clearing Mal of shooting her husband (if you fail the escape Mal is behind bars). Why should she lie?
She was on the phone with Mal when she “found” her dead husband so he couldn’t have killed the senator.

-> The “click, click, click” on the floor (if you did unlock the bonus scene) is not the cane of Shawn but her high heels on the marble floor.

She probably killed her husband and then called Mal to get him to their home / set the trap for him.

Good points, Intruder. That makes sense. Why would she have an interest in Natara, though? It’s a little random, but it fits.

So, I bought this for the ipad based on the reviews here, and my experience over the first 10 minutes was “my god, these are the crappiest controls ever”.

Then I realized I was doing it wrong - if you hold the ipad in both hands, and play using your thumbs (left thumb for movement, right for look) then it controls just like Every Console Shooter Ever Made. It’s not perfect, but at least it doesn’t feel like the game is fighting me at every turn.

I couldn’t really get “tilt to change weapon orientation” to work well for me (in the heat of battle it would either turn when it wasn’t supposed to, or it wouldn’t turn when I wanted it to). There’s an option to let you switch this to have a button to swap firing modes, which isn’t great (you have to take your hands off the controls to activate it) but at least it’s deterministic.

I also wish the game wasn’t so damn finicky about taking you out of “aim” mode. Too many times in the heat of battle I’ll accidentally swipe the screen or move Vandal too quickly and suddenly I’m no longer aiming at monsters. Grrr.

But, I’m enjoying the game - the atmosphere is basically what I remember from the first Dead Space (haven’t played DS2 yet), and so is good enough to overcome clunky controls.

Dang, good call! It makes a lot of sense, though Clay’s question still stands. Also, did Natara ever meet the Senator’s wife? If not, her ‘oh my God!’ makes a little less sense.

I’m liking both theories. The Senator’s wife is the benefactor, but she works through Shawn. The Millbrook Institute provides the candidates for their mission, but it’s Shawn’s profiling skill that makes sure they always pick the best people for their bloody work.

What’s the new Uniwar? I’m completely out of Uniwar games, did something replace it?

Me too. It just faded away. Sniff.

I’ve been thinking about picking up Carcossonne. I’ve heard good things about it.

Well the actual meeting was only between Mal and her that’s right.
However of course there is the possibility that Natara did profile the Senator as a possible suspect, too and saw his wife in a picture or something.

The problem with Shawn is that we know too little of him to see if he could be the Benefactor. It would help knowing if he is rich / comes from a rich family as the Benefactor has to be rich given all the circumstances /hiring the Colonel, the big house, the speedboat etc.).

What I ponder about is if Natara put herself in the Benefactor’s “crosshair” by killing that guy on the case that let to the injury of Shawn.
I can’t recall of that was a mass murderer as well or not and I won’t pay 99 cent to play that episode again.
If he was he might be one of the Benefactor’s “children” and Natara taking the guy out would make her “Most Wanted” on his list.

Mainly the “click, click, click” sound in the bonus scene makes me rule out Shawn as it would be too obvious (he is the only one with some sort of cane due to his injury) so the clever way would be to attribute it to women’s shoes instead but well it’s only my gut feeling.
Of course they could also go with a real “BOOM” and reveal Mal’s father as the Benefactor (pulling strings out of prison) or go with the guy that sold the plaster to the Maskmaker (the import / export guy) or something. We will see. :)

No matter what the end is, it’s kind of neat that there’s an episodic game for iOS that actually has us talking about it like it’s a TV show. Well, three of us.

I only have three Uniwar games going right now, and two of them are going at a snail’s pace.

Anyone still into the game, particularly if you’re a “few turns a day” kind of player, let’s get this thing rolling.

Meanwhile, can you guys please create a topic for Cause of Death spoilers, so as not to ruin the game for those us who are now intrigued but haven’t played it yet?

Uniwar? No! I had to give it a break for a few weeks over Christmas, plus the push notifications seem to have died (have they fixed that yet?) but I’m definitely still up for games.

Disc Drivin’ has somewhat taken over from Uniwar as my daily game right now, even if it feels like a “no consequences” one night stand in comparison.

I was going to buy Carcassonne finally last year, then they yanked the price quite considerably and I backed down. Is there still a QT3 community playing that game?
