Appshopper failed me today.

Thanks Marcus.

Oh man, that is so gratifying! I better go finish this thing. :)

Thanks for the Battleheart tip. That game is charming and is taking my time away from Tiny Wings. Poor Tiny Wings!

Garage Inc. is free right now. Great little time management game with a mafia theme.

I tried it for half an hour and it looks and plays well. Maybe I made a mistake though. I started with the hunter-type hero that does +2 with a bow but my starter-deck doesn’t come with a bow, or does it? There is no card that says it’s a bow, but there are a few that say that they are arrows. Does my bonus count for these as well?

Edit: I found the answer on their forums. Bows aren’t implemented yet. They plan to do that in a week or two. Until then they recommend that new players start with another hero.

Tiny Wings is pretty great. It seems really easy and laid back at first, but as you go along, it starts to get devilishly hard. It requires near-perfection to get to island 7. Apparently I’m supposed to get to island 8 now.

My highscore is about 122 000. Has anyone managed to get 175k?

My best score is 103,000 or so, I’m actually burned out on the game already. It was so hard to get to island seven, yet there is really no reward for doing so. I don’t want to start at island one and have to be perfect every damn time on every damn island again and again and again just to advance to another island, it’s old school gaming. Reminds me of classic arcade games from the 80’s, fun for a while but only the freakishly dedicated strange people ever “beat” those games.

Maybe one more try…dammit.

My feelings exactly… and I’m nowhere as far.

But it’s damn cute, fun in small portions and only $1 so I’m not complaining here.

It’s also really beautiful. The procedural generation, when it throws something new at you that you haven’t seen before is really simple, but has a beautiful effect.

This thread is procedural.

Airstrike Command looks really nifty. UncleSmoothie–let us know when you get it in the store.

But it’s interesting, you first grab it, and it seems like this cute little game, a bit of fun, nothing hardcore. Then it kind of turns into something that is like as punishing as Demon’s Souls. You have to be perfect all the way through to progress - you have yo be perfect at the first five sections to get another go at the 6th, then you have to learn to be perfect at that. But to earn another practice at it, you have to repeat your perfect go at the first part.

I have to disagree that getting to island 7 wasn’t rewarding. It was what I needed to achieve to get the nest up, and when I did, I was fist pumping in the street at 4 AM - when I happened to succeed at it finally.

That’s actually how I’ve been playing it: for the nest upgrades. It’s essentially achievement farming but it gives the game a purpose beyond just making it as far as possible, which gets a bit old a bit quick. I like how the implemented their achievements in tiers. You get more achievements and a higher multiplier by beatng each set.

Fuck all your other games: Kairosoft is back to steal all of your downtime.

I just got it so I can’t comment much on it yet other than you can play in landscape now and zoom.

Oh shit stand by!

Topic isn’t greatly appealing, but if it’s 1/2 as addictive as GameDev Story, then I’m sure I’ll put 20+hours into it.

Sweet Smoothie, looking forward to it!

Tiny wings has me in its not-so-tiny talons. I’ll fire it up intending to just have one go during a commercial break, but instead miss the second half of whatever I was watching. I topped out my nest level today, it might not have the same pull without those absurd goals to shoot for.

Hints for those of you stuck on the last batch of achievements:

Reach Isle 8: Go very fast. Be very lucky.
175000 Points: Be in fever mode as much as you can. Go pretty fast. Be very lucky.
5x landings on new islands: Practice, practice, practice. Be very lucky.

I noticed a bug that helped me get through the “stay in fever mode for x seconds” challenges. I’ve been able to do everything else so far, but that one was just killing me. Accidentally completed it by doing the following:

  1. Get in fever mode
  2. Double-tap Home button to bring up multitasking menu (in the middle of gameplay)
  3. Wait X seconds (whatever the challenge presents
  4. Close multitasking menu to go back into game
  5. Click “OK” prompt that shows up

It continues the timer counting even though the game was paused :-P
