So, do the videos not do it justice? What I’ve seen on video…I don’t “get” it.

So far it looks awesome, but looking at my Twitter stream I already hate their idea of Twitter integration.

It is somewhat of a point and click adventure minus the clear objectives and explicit story. You tap the screen to make the main character move, and then you can interact with the environment. So far it is really laid back, and the music is amazing.

I just finished “Session 2”, and the last puzzle was indeed puzzling. It reminds me of some alternate universe Zelda mixed with old school adventure games. Not much combat though, wich isn’t a bad thing. The combat is fine, but the mellow pace so far has been really amazing.

This is a special game. It reminds of Flower in a way, because of the relaed tone of the game and the constant shifting soudtrack. Don’t read any reviews or previews, you want to go in fresh.

Dangit. I finally got sick of Disc Drivin’s ads (most annoying ad scheme ever) so I bought it last week for $2.99. The next DAY it goes on sale for 99 cents.

I usually play it on my iPad. So what comes out this week? Disc Drivin’ HD, for $2.99.

Sigh.

Just think of it this way, you really bought it way back in December for $2.99 and since then you’ve easily gotten your money’s worth, and so the price drop now isn’t really so bad. In fact, you realise that the HD version will look so much better and decide instead to give the developers even more money and buy that too!

I’m not helping, am I?

Any update on when this is launching? I can’t see it anywhere in the app store.

[Edit: Dur. I mean Sword & Sorcery]

[Edit 2: Double dur. I found it under ‘superbrothers’]

I hate to be that guy but given that this thread goes back several years, is anyone willing to offer a ‘must-have’ list of games for the Touch/iPhone?

Besides Angry Birds.

And I already picked up Bejewelled 2.

Back to reading through the jillion or so posts here in the meantime!

Space Miner HD, Wesnoth and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney have given me the best value for money since I bought it.

Poker With Bob

Ante up.

You open.

You opened with five.

I’ll call.

Whatcha need?

You drew three.

I’ll take one.

You open.

You checked.

I’ll raise you fifteen.

You raised twenty-five!

I’ll call.

And the moment of truth…

You got nothing but a high card!

And I’ve got a pair…

And the cash is mine!

This is my personal must-buy list. They are all iOS exclusives, and most of them will last you hours for a minimal investment. There are more of course, but this is my definite AAA must buys.

100 Rogues - An awesome top down rogue-like RPG. I bought this last week, and I regret not knowing about it before. Re playability is through the roof too.

Dungeon Raid - A match 3 game with an RPG meta-game. It isn’t like Puzzle Quest though, because you always see the board, and the enemies are just tiles. Easily one of my favourite games EVER.

Super Quickhook - Platformer where you need to use a grapple to go though levels. It is easy to control, and it has light RPG mechanics in the shape of an item store with upgrades.

League of Evil - It is like Super Meat Boy. Need I say more? Probably the best example for on screen buttons. The magic secret is that there is no momentum, so the controls are really tight.

Space Miner - I played the entire campaign when it came out and it took me 6 hours. Another shining example of virtual controls done right. Instead of a dpad or fake analog stick, it is a wheel that you steer. It is basically astroids with missions and an upgradable ship.

Super Mega Worm - You are a giant worm that need to eat people. You level up and become more destructive. Charming 8-bit style combined with hyper violence is always winning.

The Incident - Objects fall from the sky and you must tilt your iDevice to avoid them. Hard to explain the charm, but it is really good.

Infinity Blade - With the new content update, I have no trouble recommending it. Punchout with sword.

Rage HD - An on rails FPS with an awesome score and combo system.

Tiny Birds - This game is number one on the app store for a reason, it’s really good.

I seem to have different tastes to everyone else in this thread, because I don’t enjoy any of the games in Kurdel’s post.

My two essentials are Trainyard and Tiny Wings.

Yeah it totally depends on which kind of games you like.
I’m a sucker for time-management games for example which other people absolutely despise (Why should I play doing WORK in my free time?).

So it would help if you tell us what kind of games you like in general.

Bargain wise:

Square has slashed prices on most / all of their other games to pimp the release of FF3.

I just got Secret of Mana for 50% off.
“Song Summoner” is a pretty nice hardly reduced game as well.
It creates characters with stats based on music titles on your iOS device. Pretty whacky and there is a demo so you can see for yourself.

Here are some favorites:
Auditorium
Orbital
Pathpix
Carcassone
Cat Physics
Galcon
Helsing’s Fire
Rimelands
Solomon’s Keep / solomon’s boneyard
Sword & Poker
Tilt to live

On the action game side I like Minotaur Rescue. Also the just release War Pinball HD is quite good.

Uniwar!

Unless you, like, hate fun.

The Quest is the standout for me. Almost the only western RPG on the system and it’s a damn good one.

Played through the first section of the Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery game last night. I enjoyed the ambiance and the personality they imbued into the characters, as heavily stylized and pixilated as they are, and the music was very good as well, along with some of the little audio bits that really were nice. Thing is, as a game for “fun” I’m not sure about it yet. Kind of a point and click adventure so far, and maybe it’s yet to open up a bit more but so far there isn’t much of a game in this. We’ll see how the next section turns out. Like I said, I haven’t gotten very far in yet, so I could be completely wrong about how it progresses.

Space Miner is my only true must buy game, but it’s closely followed by Sword & Poker and Dungeon Raid. Honorable mentions - Game Dev Story and Carcassone.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. Plenty to have a look at here. :)

roBurky and intruder make good points in that tastes vary. I’m pretty willing to have a go at most game types on iOS, leaning more toward puzzle games and ones that can be jumped into and out of quickly. Having said that, turn-based RPGs get me hot and bothered. I am probably less inclined to go for action games because my fingers refuse to be as dextrous as they need to be on the touchscreen. I may just need more practice, though.

I am finishing up on “Session 3”. After the second session, it does open up. Some awesome surprises hidden in there.

This “game” is an interactive audio visual experience more than a game. Whether you agree or not, this is another arrow to the “games as art” quiver.
