Ugh, that looks terrible, Octonoo. 20 single player missions with cartoony graphics? Yeah, that went over real well in Highbourne, and that awful thing even had multiplayer.
But I do notice Great Little Wargame is selling a separate ingame microtranscational campaign of Mexicans vs. Rednecks. So it’s go that going for it.

It looks good enough on my iTouch but if you think this looks atrocious, wait until you get a load of the “graphics” of Sword & Sorcery EP, holy Crap with a capital C…
20 single player missions with cartoony graphics?
Yeah, a nickel a mission but so far I haven’t regretted putting myself on the foodline for it.
As for the cartoony graphics, I think all handheld games should be cartoony by default.
But I do notice Great Little Wargame is selling a separate ingame microtranscational campaign of Mexicans vs. Rednecks. So it’s go that going for it.

After looking into the game’s background, I didn’t realize that it was developed by a bunch of caulkheads.
So I decided to purchase all of their voice packs and the one map pack in-game out of spite.
Hopefully we’ll get a skirmish mode put in later…
Thanks for the heads up; I’d been looking forward to this. I was wondering why there aren’t more Advance Wars type games on iOS. (Kinda wish they hadn’t used such a low-rent rip-off of the TF2 Soldier, though).
But for the record, I liked Highborn, so what do I know?
Is this the place for iPad games too? Because really, it’s a different way of playing some of these games. Native iPad games are usually more expensive but I’ll throw the extra few bucks out there.
What I can’t find is a good turn based war/stategy game. Seems you have Civ Rev, Uniwar (not native) and one fantasy game but nothing like Panzer General or its ilk.
I didn’t mean to come down hard on Great Little Wargame. It’s just that I couldn’t see anything there that made it worth playing instead of, say, Uniwar. If it does have anything to recommend it in addition to Uniwar, I’d love to know.
Also, I actually don’t mind modeling the war between the rednecks and Mexicans, so long as the rednecks aren’t OP.

For me it’s really about character. (“It’s about ethics.”) Advance Wars hit the sweet spot with a strategy game that was a little bit more sophisticated than Risk, plus all the goofy animations. The actual strategy of Uniwar is fine; it was just a little too dry for me to get into.
That said, I can’t really recommend Great Little Wargame based on my first impression (tried a couple of levels of the “Lite” version). It feels like every other smaller-studio turn-based strategy game with a layer of low-budget TF2 and Advance Wars “homage” slathered on top. The first level was a tedious battle of attrition and I got a gold star. Guess I’ll keep looking for my iOS Advance Wars successor…
Warrior here. No idea how. It unlocked after about 2 minutes of playing my first updated game.
I’m very happy that the game didn’t clutter up with new stuff thanks to the update. It’s just richer now. I love the mana potion idea, especially because I’ve only been able to use them a couple of times… so they seem precious!

I have now unlocked four classes, but am still ironing out how all of their flaws and perks shake out.
I also think they added just enough. So, it will have me in its clutches for a bit longer.
Here’s one thing I don’t get about Dungeon Raid (which I am now addicted to, btw):
Do our characters ever level up in an uber sense outside of the individual games themselves? Meaning, the 3 classes I now have unlocked–Adventurer, Paladin, and Raider–are all still listed as Level 1 when I launch the game. Is that just how you always start every game? Or have I just not played long enough yet to see any of these guys level up for reals?
Trophies will level up classes and unlock perk slots and spells. You just haven’t seen them yet.
My first class I got was Mage, but I’m really enjoying the Raider/Halfling class. Turning all the coins into skulls, then killing them all at once for +1 armor and huge experience is terrific.
My 3 year old son is still playing Angry birds, and managed to unlock the first 15 levels of Rio all by himself.
He has now added 100 Rogues to his favorites. I can’t believe he’s playing his first rogue-like game. With a bit of help of course. He’s beat the first two bosses, and wants to go further to beat up the skeletons before they run away.
I’m amazed.

Has anyone else finished Sword and Sworcery? I have been utterly enthralled by the game, but can’t figure out how to get that final 1%.
SPOILERS
I called the phone number that you get from the last scene, but can’t decipher the recorded message because the quality is poor. Has anyone else deciphered it?
You get a trophy for the first special monster you kill after installing the update. After that, there’s just a hidden progress bar that advances as you kill more special monsters. Kill X of them, and you’ll spawn a trophy that will either upgrade your current class or randomly unlock another. From what I’ve read, there is no faster or slower unlock rate for playing on Normal vs. Hard or Harder, except for the different rates of special monsters spawning on each difficulty level. Specials spawned by using the Big Game Hunter skill do count toward the hidden progress bar.
If you wanted to try and powerlevel the unlocking process, I think the best bet is to play as Mage and try to have Big Game Hunter as your one and only spell. The Mage race’s special power is to refill one of your spells every time you kill a special monster. If Big Game Hunter is your only spell, that’s the one that will refill, allowing you to spawn new monsters as fast as you can kill them.

Do we have anyone from Firaxis here? Because I’d really like to find out if CivRev for iOS is ever going to be released in New Zealand.
I mean I know the electrons’ little legs must get tired running all the way down here, but FFS. It’s Civ. Whip the little fuckers.

Civ Rev spent a day free in the US and UK stores and I was able to create a fake iTunes account to get it, but yes, the fact that it always seems to be NZ getting the shaft is annoying (no Pacman CE DX on XBL, for example). It’s the bloody Aussies with the stupid rating system, not us!
I’d say play as adventurer, the default class, as he doesn’t level up. This way all trophies are class unlocks.

It’s not knowing why that’s partly the issue - I just can’t see any justification why they’d turn down free money.

So I did the unthinkable: I bought the 16$ FInal Fantasy III…
Do I regret it? Absolutely not! It looks amazing on the Retina screen, and the textures were clearly redone. Overall, it comes off as a clean, simple, 3D rpg with horribly antiquated mechanics.
Is the current price too expensive? Yes, and you shold wait for the inevitable price drop. I just hope SE puts this down to 10$, and port FF IV DS. Make it so.
