I am not. From what I played of it (admittedly, I need to put in some more time), the game is awful.

On the Sword and Sworcery iPhone game, I’m surprise to find that there was not much discussion on this game. Anyway, I took the leap of faith and after trying out the game for about 30 minutes (5% progression), I must say that I am not terribly excited over it. It’s just your typical adventure game on the iPhone. I am not sure what was the hoo haa about. Maybe it is too early to tell.

Sure, the pixelated graphics are charming but I think we have seen pixelated graphics to death (with Minecraft specifically). Music was nice, not incredible, just your typical nice music but no big deal, really.

Now I know why no one comment on it.

I went nuts over it when it came out on iPad.

Seeing as you only played 5%, I don’t really think you can really judge the entire experience. It is a game best played in small chunks with awesome earphones on. Sure you have a general idea what the game is, and if it isn’t your kind of game then I can’t say anything to convince you otherwise. But if you want you monies worth, keep on playing!

The soundtrack is really amazing, even if you aren,t interested in the game should give it a listen.

I bought the vinyl edition, and I don,t even have a record player. The art was just too awesome to pass up!

That is really awesome!

I will continue to play and explore - it’s just that initial impression was dampen by the over excitement that the buzz somehow created. Will post more impressions later.

I’ll be interested to see if your opinion changes. I did the same thing you did - played the first 5% or so (with headphones!) and felt pretty meh about it.

I did it with headphones too and I have mild headaches. I think what they say about cellphone and radiation is true :P I’ll have to tackle Sword and Sworcery in Airplane Mode!

I played and finished Sword and Sworcery, I absolutely adored the art style, sound design and every aspect of the presentation. The game itself, unfortunately, is so utterly dull I don’t think I’d really recommend it.

It’s surprising to me since it’s associated with a studio that did such truly innovative game design ( Clash of Heroes ) that they’d make something so flat. I understand it’s all very referential, but that’s not enough to carry the experience. Or I should say, the presentation does carry the experience, but it’s despite the lackluster game design.

Ouch, that hurt my ego :)

Really though, we knew the game wouldn’t resonate with everyone. Fortunately for us it seems to have resonated with more people that not :)

Aw man, I totally forgot one of the developers posted here, now I feel bad.

I think my disappointment stems from the fact that the game’s atmosphere totally did resonate with me, which further raised my expectations on the gameplay. I’ll grant maybe raised them to unrealistic levels. If it helps any several friends who I talked about the game with really unequivocally loved it.

I popped in here hoping that Sword and Sworcery would be talked about, so looks like I got my wish. I think the game is stunning and awesome (and Robert Ashley does voice work in it which I think is fabulous) but I was hoping someone could answer one random question about it. Do you really have to wait a full month (minimum) to complete Session III? If there’s some other way to do that puzzle I’ll hop back in and explore some more, but as far as I can tell the game was telling me not to play it very much for the next month which seems like a weird thing for a game to do.

There are 3 ways to finish the game:

  1. wait until the moon is correct
  2. change the moon in-game
  3. change the moon somewhere else

Beyond that its super spoilertastic, so check out the pocketgamer walkthrough.

Don’t feel bad for posting your impressions. We can take criticism, and i actually appreciate people posting it,

Coin Drop is very good. Get it.

It’s Peggle with aspects of Angry Birds and Breakout.

It’s also going to be the next Angry Birds success story. 99 cents.

Oh, believe me – I asked the question the way I did because I do not want spoilers at all. I remember seeing a tiny, tiny, tiiiiiiiny hint in the game about how it may be possible to change the moon at one specific location so it’s exciting to hear that it can be done. Guess I gotta hop back into it on my lunch break to see if I can figure it out. Just FYI, I felt the need to ask because the narrator fellow (ack, forgot his name) mentioned that Session III “typically” takes a lunar month to solve, which seemed to suggest the possibility that this puzzle is just another part of the experimental nature of the game.

Your third option makes me very confused though. I’m trying to think of what that even means… like, it’s not as though I can change the date on my phone (nor would I want to) which is the first thing that comes to mind… but hey, thanks for exciting my curiosity. Your game is awesome and well-worth investing effort into understanding. :)

Did Capy port Critter Crunch? I remember an interview a few years back with the developer of that game citing how much he loathed Apple’s policies.

We made Critter Crunch on all platforms, and I’m pretty darn sure i never said anything about loathing Apple’s policies.

So I bought the World of Goo at the .99 cent sale… and is anyone else dumbfounded at the lack of volume control? How can something so good lack this basic an option? I don’t suppose that it would bother me so much, except I’ll be in some other app and open Goo to get my ears blown out. Maybe I just keep everything else at a relative low.

I don’t want to damage their ratings with a less than stellar review, but it’s been really annoying to me.

Sorry. I think I am misremembering and the griping was about the push for 99 cent games.

I don’t think i was griping… more ‘getting angry at’ or ‘raging on’ :)

I don’t suppose a Retina Display update to Critter Crunch would be cost-feasible eh?

On Sword and Sworcery iPhone - I’m now at 27%, almost done with Session 2, and my impressions didn’t change much. The art style (pixelated art) is growing on me. I like how it is refreshing compared to many games (although like I said earlier, it’s not entirely new new as it’s done to death by Minecraft and, to a certain extent, Dwarf Fortress). But the combination of art and music in this game makes it charming.

Aside from that, this game is just like any other adventure game. In fact, sometimes I’m pretty lost in terms of the story. What was the reason we are doing this again? There was a mega book… and then there was the sworcery stuff and then going into Logfella’s dream. I think I have lost the objective of the whole game.

Part of my being lost is that I spent almost 30 minutes on one stupid puzzle and I have disconnected from the flow of the story. The part I was stuck was in the meadow with about 8 sheeps. I’m supposed to tap on all of the 8 sheeps to trigger the spirit thingy but in this scene, the game zoom out and those sheep were so small. I could hardly tap all of them and when you tap wrongly, whatever progress you made (for instance you have tapped 7 sheeps and then you made a mistake), the damn thing reset. I think this would be fine in a computer where mouse click is precise; or in an iPad with bigger screen and therefore the sheep are spread across but on the iPhone - it’s almost impossible. I don’t have big hand and yet I have to use my pinky finger to tap! Ridiculous. Maybe I am doing it wrong!

Edit: this is the scene I was referring to…

I think I need to play more. The reviews talk about this being a new experience. So far, I am not getting it. Perhaps there are more surprises along the way. We’ll see.
