Just chiming in to agree with you on both accounts. Tiny Towers just feels tedious, and the IAP is just there to move you a little further along the treadmill.

I’ve really enjoyed AoD - it plays a little like a side scrolling DOTA. Upgrade Ash or the troops? I suppose you can just grind the levels over and over for money, but part of the challenge is trying to make smart choices with regards to managing Ash and other resources.

I know, I realized I was putting a few words in your mouth (apologies, and, no worries if it turns out to be 99 cents misspent, it may be a long time until I give it a try since I am cough, hooked through the gills on the Dungeon Raid thing).

Dammit (off to buy Pocket Academy). By the way Grand Prix story is awesome on Android. If it ever comes to iOs I recommend it.

Let us know Rod. I am not sure a MOTS version with “Story” removed from the title is what I want.

Thanks for the Cross Fingers suggestion. I really quite like it.

So anyone tried this new dungeon thing yet? Come on people, get a move on while it’s on sale!

I’m playing through with a warrior, and some of the upgrades are shockingly overpowered (so far, they may even out as the monsters get tougher).

The equipment is 100% generic and just adds +1 to a base stat when you upgrade. The spells I’ve seen for the warrior mainly pump damage, which isn’t necessarily in your best interest because the only way to get gold and XP is from the board. This means you want to keep baddies alive as long as possible so you can nab goodies.

It’s gorgeous, but so far I think both Puzzle Quest and Dungeon Raid have much better designs and longer legs. Worth a buck, though, no doubt.

Agreed on all counts. There is TONS of potential here. The difficulty needs a tweak, it needs more classes, more enemy variety, etc. Still, it’s a lot of fun and well worth th buck, IMO.

A Mysteries of the Sith version?

Yes I know, but that acronym is taken already in my brain.

Ascension: chronicle of the godslayer, a deck building game, is out for idevices. It has asynchronous multiplay. I’m dreamshadow1977 on game center. Would love to play with people.

Thank you! My brain’s the same way!

Street Fighter IV Volt is .99 today, goes up a dollar a day to 6.99.

Adds wi-fi MP and Balrog, Vega, and Cody.

First impressions are VERY positive. I’ve seen people playing this at work, and seen the box at stores, but never played it. I really like the mechanics of the game itself, and the app seems very well made so far.

For those not familiar, it is like a CCG, but all the cards are in the box. You always start with a specific set of basic cards, then use those to acquire others.

The mechanics are unlike anything I’ve played in the sense that on each turn, you draw from your deck, and anything you don’t use is discarded. It is very tactical in that sense. However, there’s long term strategy in deciding what cards to acquire. When you acquire a new card, you don’t get to use it, it goes into your discard pile which gets reshuffled when you run out, and then you will be able to draw it.

Very cool. Very easy to understand. Simple, effective tutorial. Can’t speak to the AI quality (I obliterated it, but come one it was the end of the tutorial match).

I don’t usually care for ccg type games because they get so complicated, but this is right up my alley. I have a feeling I’m going to be playing this a lot more.

It also has pass n play. You can mix up to 4 AI and human players. I have a feeling this may be the first game I make use of this featuree, because my son will love it.

Wait a minute, Ascension is on iPhone? Awesome! I love this game!

Anyone played Cargo Runners yet? I’m trying to get a feel for it before buying. (No AI has me a little concerned, but I have several friends who would play. It is a semi- Ticket to Ride game, or something else?

Ascension is REALLY good.

Funny, I’ve been meaning to pick up the physical game for the past year due to high recommendations from friends. Now, I don’t have to!

Dungeon Saga is really disappointing. It has really great high production values and a solid concept (I’d call it more Dungeon Raid + the pseudo-dungeon map from Sword and Poker).

But the game design just falters. I realize Dungeon Raid gets away with making a match 3 game with no combos (as in, pieces don’t fall and cause automatic matches when they land in groups of 3 or 4), but a head to head game like this one really needs them. The extra move with matches that are 7+ isn’t really sufficient. As it is, each turn is kind of a dull/predictable affair since there aren’t really any “big moves”. Every combat is a war of attrition. I don’t understand why they didn’t just more directly borrow from Bejewelled/Puzzle quest.

The design of the experience/gold matches encourages tedious grinding on easier fights. Might as well sit there matching coins and stars as long as you can before killing them off.

The spells/skills seem wildly out of balance.

This is going to be tricky stuff for them to fix with patches, so I’m not optimistic they will.

On the upside, I finally got around to downloading the much maligned 100 Rogues and I’m really enjoying it.

I concur. I did not get the hate. It is an enjoyable roguelike diversion for $.99.

I think a decent portion of the hate comes from how rough and buggy it was when it shipped.

Certainly, it is no DCSS. ;)
