I flew through the game until level 50. That combo of the witch, spearwoman and evil Hero got me every time.

Dead page fix time.

I like Ascension, though I’m not good at it. I’m on Game Center as IgnatzMouse. There may be a space in there, I’m not sure.

Okay, so am I missing something or is Tiny Tower somehow bypassing what I assumed to be pretty strict rules about notifications? You can turn notifications on and off from within the app, but you don’t have specific controls (badges, sounds, pop-ups), and there are no controls in the phone’s Settings > Notifications area–Tiny Tower doesn’t even show up there.

How’d they get away with that?

Also, in “Bitbook”, the little face Facebook-style feed in the menu, one of my Bitizens just quoted Lewis Black. “If it weren’t for my horse, I wouldn’t have spent that year in college.”

+1 for Ascension, really like it

Swords and Soldiers is now out on iTunes, apparently a very solid port of the Wii/PSN/PC game and only $.99.

Baseball Superstars Pro II is free! Fun, light baseball sim with RPG elements. Free! I say.

EDIT: Shit. Musta been 24 hours. I fear I was too late. Still, 99 cents ain’t bad.

Battle Slugs is free right now and seems like a nice Ataxx clone.

I also played and finished Army of Darkness over these past few days. Fantastic game in every possible way! Your description is pretty much how I did it. I used maxed Smithy, Wiseman and Arthur (the tank that comes with archers), halfway upgraded Henry and Car, Boomstick level 7 and various levels of castle upgrades. The thing that worked best for me was to delay the rebirth of Arthur until the Wiseman was about to die so I would recreate him as well, then Henry ASAP.

I’m considering resetting the game so I can try the peasant swarm tactic. Endless mode has been a big let down due to:

  • fixed spawn sequence (same game every time)
  • low money drops (upgrades too slow to really enjoy)
  • enemy archer groups instagib me (can’t risk going into the mob to get cash).

Why is there no game like Reccettear on the iPhone?!!?!/1

Or an adaptation of that one I only heard about for old phones where you were an alchemist and had a potion store…or something.

With all the quirky stuff that comes out, a mediocre version of a fantasy store simulation should be a no brainer…in my book. Tiniest of niches still work on the iPhone, right? Every other niche is covered.

Not really unfortunately. The price point means if you hope to actually make a return on the time you put in, you’re far better off focusing on mass market or, uh, big niche.

You’re crushing my dreams.

(Cross-posted from the iPad thread:)

4th & Battery’s (i.e. PopCap’s) newest free release is out now – Allied Star police.

I haven’t played it yet, but the story is pretty awesome. (Seriously, check out that video.) Some of our folks worked with a young kid w/ Leukemia via the Make a Wish foundation to help him make his game idea a reality. This game is the result.

Groove Coaster is out now and I’ve posted about it in the iPad thread. I quite like it.

Here’s a preview

and some of my comments in from other thread.

For those worried that that all you do is tap to the beat they introduce a bit more than simple taps. Eventually you have taps, holds, swipes, scratches, and multitaps. It’s not quite Elite Beat levels of craziness but it’s still pretty good.

GTA Chinatown Wars for iPad on sale for $2.99, just in time for vacation.

Also some SEGA stuff like Monkey Ball 2 and Sonic Cart Racing.

Shredder Chess is a buck, down from eight, and is great.

I’ve enjoyed Ascension. Has anyone tried Kard Combat? Any good?

… Kard Combat doesn’t look as good as it does on the PC (Spectromancer). Mechanics-wise, I think that Ascension is the better game, but you can download Kard Combat and play with it for free.

I mostly liked it, but the single-player doesn’t have much challenge.

I’d be up for some multiplayer if anyone else winds up picking up a copy.
