I think the issue is volume. At $15 you may not be moving even 1/15th of the volume. I’ll try almost anything at $0.99. Even at $5… it’s a hard call. At $15? No frickin’ way.

I would say $5 would be my max. That said, I do not think I have paid more than $2.99. And that was Carcassonee and/or Blokus which were the first two games I purchased. They may have been a bit more than that, but it cetainly was not over $10 and I do not think over $5 in September of last year.

$5 is a hard call for a quality game?
That’s both absurd, and a pretty standard attitude.
I can get Dungeons of Dredmor for $5 on my PC. It’s pretty hard to justify a game for $5 on my iPad when I can get Fifa 11 at $0.99.

I still think the prices are crazy. I am not complaining too much as I buy tons of $0.99 games, but I think we would get many more interesting, original iPhone games if the base price was higher.
I can’t see them crawling out of this hole they dug themselves in on the iOS market (especially looking at EA with their “let’s drop everything to 99 cents” idea around holidays).
Apart from the guys that want everything day 1 the rest will wait for price drops as this behaviour is logical based on past experiences.
Sure you probably can serve a niche with higher priced games but the real money is at the 99 cents.

Gee, I’m really enjoying Pirates on the iPad. But then again, the touch-screen UI suits my aging hands, which increasingly object to games with lots of mouse-clicking. In any case, I’ve been having a blast swiping while swordfighting and tapping while dancing. I know some people miss the old land battles, but I actually like the new bombardment mini-game. Really my only complaint is that there’s no Hall of Fame allowing me to admire the accomplishments of my various pirates.
You had to have paid 5 for Carcassonne. It premiered at 5 and stayed there until it became universal and jumped to 10, where it has remained.
I’m willing to pay more than that for a game, but it takes things somewhat out of impulse range. I picked up both Ghost Stories for 6 and Puerto Rico for 8 last night. I think it is money well spent for two great board games that would cost several times that for the physical versions, But I wouldnt have spent that much on either without having already heard that they were solid adaptations.
There’s a lot of junk to filter through in the app store. 5 bucks may not be a ton of money, but I don’t want to waste it on something I won’t play.

Yeah, I did pay $5. Looks like it jumped up in December 2010 and I got it in September prior to that.
And sure enough EA did drop nearly everything to 99 cents (for the iPhone versions) as part of a “back to school” thing.
Nanostudio just dropped to $11, likely thanks to Jeff’s purchase since the universe likes him to kick himself. Thanks, Jeff!

Zombie Gunship is awesome and only 99 cents.

99 cents, fuck, do you think I am MADE OF MONEY over here?
I watched the video, and agree that it’s gorgeous. I really want to play it. Will I still want to after 15 minutes is the question! I know that the opening scenes are tutorials… but what could grab my attention (and use my brain) after the tutorials? Do you have any examples of cool/fun/puzzling things that happen later?

I’ve been playing more Ninja Fishing over the past few days than I am entirely comfortable admitting.
It’s a dumb game, but somehow freakishly compelling.
I’m enjoying Ninja Fishing, it’s like the next step in Fruit Ninja

Now it’s universal, so I picked it up, and holy crap is it good.
The premise seemed kind of dumb and I’m a little burned out on zombie games, but after playing for a while I just don’t think I’m going to get sick of mowing down zombies with a 40mm Bofors gun.
