Saw on Touch Arcade that Apple’s giving away Jetpack Joyride for free if you like the App Store on Facebook. Follow the link above for more how you do it. I redeemed a code about 30 minutes ago so there are still codes available.

The Gamebook Adventure series is back on sale for $1.99. At least episodes 2 through 6 are. You don’t need to read them in order or to read all of them at all, really. I enjoy them, though the writing really varies from game to game and the combat can occasionally be brutal. Anyway, if you miss those old RPG style choose your own adventure books, Gamebook Adventures could be the best take on them on iOS.

Elder Sign: Omens has been released.

Sprinkle: water splashing fire fighting fun is free today.

I went to the site and watched the video and I still don’t know what kind of game this is. Is it a hidden object game?

Nope, it’s more like Cthulhu yahtzee. You go to various exhibits, roll the dice, and use the results to complete tasks. Get rewards from tasks and seal away the evil one.

No. It’s a digital version of their recently released card game called Elder Sign with some elements removed. Check out their video overview of Elder Sign to get a feel for what Elder Sign: Omens is like.

Apple just released GarageBand as a universal app. Still $5.

Wizardy is out and boy is it a mess. Not universal. Wonky UI. Stupid IAP teleport scroll for $.99? No thanks! The game is $9.99 (only unlock able via IAP) and they have the balls to have a real money item store in the game. Even when you first create your character they have a button to spend money to upgrade it right on the first screen. What a waste. Also it controls like shit.

I would have bought the game too but all the IAP bullshit really turned me off.

Wow. Dissappointing. I was looking forward to it.

Old school RPG + in app purchase??? yeah, no thanks.

Yeah, I checked out the “free” demo (that is, the vector for their IAP virus I guess :)) and it looks pretty grim at x2 on an iPad 2. That, and the IAP overkill made me just go ahead and delete it.

Contrast that to Greed Corp HD, which debuted a day or so ago, Very nice little strategy game all around.

I’m still giving it a shot. So far the IAP stuff seems stupid, but superfluous. If the game is balanced so I can ignore it without ill effect, then I have no problem doing just that.

The interface is a bit clunky in spots, but perfectly usable (particularly after switching to the alternate dungeon movement scheme), and the translation is quite spotty (the “lord” character class is “load”), so I can’t imagine this is the same translation as the one Xseed published on PSN.

Still, though, it’s not like there’s a whole lot of choice for games in this style, and the actual dungeon exploring is reasonably promising so far. I’m going to stick with it for now.

I’m finding this game to be very difficult, like maybe I’m missing something about how to play. It does feel very board game-y and super random in a not-so-hot way.

This is funny, considering how everyone in the board game thread (except me) thinks it’s way too easy.

I realized I didn’t understand I could lock glyphs using the character portrait, which is a pretty key feature. It still feels too random to me, but I’m willing to admit I might just not get it.

Greed Corp?? I had no idea. Thanks for the tipoff!

Does Greed Corp support multiplayer online? I quite liked this game on Steam.

My extensive research (i.e., reading the description in the app store and going to their website) reveals they claim there is multiplayer support for 2 to 4 players.

Pipe Mania (a decent Pipe Dream remake) for iPhone just sank to free until sunday.

I had a good time with it, seemed worth pointing out.
