Wars of the Roses is on sale today for 1.99. I’ve had my eye on this one for a while now. It is based on the boardgame Rosenkonig. It is a fairly simple territory game and does have an element of luck. You use cards to move the crown around the board, placing pieces of your color in the process, but your ability to move onto occupied spaces is limited, so you have to be careful. It is possible to force your opponent into a position where they can’t move the crown or have to use up their knights (capture an existing piece) early. The goal is to make formations of as many pieces as possible. There’s a solo campaign, a quick play function, and local/online mp.
Only played briefly, but I’m liking it so far. It is universal.

Project Update #14: We Broke the Post Office
Some lessons we have learned from Kickstarter:
- We love video games, art and development. We hate prize fullfillment. Don’t misunderstand - we love giving you guys posters and shirts and seeing how excited everyone is about the project, but we aren’t exactly logistics people.
- Shipping 100 tubes full of shirts, posters and other goodies is not something anyone is good at. UPS, USPS, FedEx - none of them. But we finally just went in and did it, by hand, manually entering every address to get these puppies out. Proof is attached. Behind us is a line of very pissed off people waiting to send packages and personal mail - nothing important, were sure, but stuff none the less. We were going to take a picture but decided against it.
- Australia is really far away. We would appreciate it if you could move your continent a bit closer to save on parcel. Japan too.
- Tim Schafer is a god. Unrelated, we know, but Double Fines achievements on Kickstarter are really amazing. We really love this platform. And we’re really excited about a lot of other games coming out through kickstarter as well.
So all that said, we hope you guys really love your posters, t-shirts buttons etc. We’re gonna release some iPhone and iPad wallpapers this week as well. And please, post pictures of your gear on facebook - we love seeing you guys get excited.
As always, thanks so much for supporting us and thanks so much for being patient when it comes to our development, prizes and just about everything else. We are working extremely hard on the game. Also, we hope your going to PAX, cause there might be playable demos, talks, roundtables, and exclusive schwag from Warballoon. More on that soon…
Has anyone here gotten stuff yet?
Anybody else try this out? One thing I forgot to mention is that you can see your opponent’s cards, so even though there is a random/luck factor in what cards you receive, there’s a lot of strategy too.
There are three AI levels for quick play, but no difficulty option for the campaign, so I’m not sure which AI it uses (may vary from mission to mission for all I know). While I am getting to be a bit more adept at it, I have had to repeat a number of the challenges.
Definitely glad I picked it up.

The link is about the success of an iOS kickstarter project and doesn’t really have much to do with Double Fine. Star Command meets Game Dev Story, it says.

I’ve just got an iphone4. Can the collective recommend me a few ‘must have’ games.
Also are there any decent rpg’s available?
thanks! Sorry if this kind of breaks the thread.
On the RPG front I always recommend The Quest (start with the Gold package). First person open world adventuring that’s a) turn-based (a must with touch controls, imho), and b) ridiculously deep and lengthy. Not to mention loaded with expansion content if you’re enjoying yourself.

Uniwar HD for some fun turn-based strategy with other Qt3 folks.
I’ve been wondering today after browsing for some fun iPod games. Why isn’t there a remake of Dune (the original one, not the RTS father)? I think a lot of people here would love to play that game on their iPhone. After so many years, are the publishing rights still at some commercial party?
While we’re at it, the game could use some new improvement or new plot twists. :)
Edit: Or is there a way to emulate this game? I would love to know how.

Warlords is actually there :-)
Don’t Run With a Plasma Sword is free (for now). It’s an endless-runner style game with levels/bosses and upgrades. The drive to finish a level is strong and sets it apart from other games in the genre.
Also, it’s a universal app which has been mentioned in the iPad thread. Speaking of which, shouldn’t the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad games threads really be abandoned in favor of an iOS games thread at this point? As iOS matures and the number of legacy devices mounts, there is more and more splintering of the hardware requirement for these games. There really aren’t simply two categories any longer.

Rumor is that the Herbert estate isn’t selling licensing rights for anything these days. There’s a reprint of the old Avalon Hill Dune boardgame coming from Fantasy Flight Games with the Dune theme stripped out.

Another thumbs up for DRWAPL. I’ve tried a bunch of the newer endless runners, and this is the one I keep returning to. Story mode (fixed levels) with seamless transitions? Check. Endless mode (random levels) with missions to keep your interest? Check. Difficulty selection? Check. RPG-like persistent upgrades? Cosmetic bling upgrades? Temporary power ups? Check, check, check.
Holy crap! Warlords IS out there! I had no idea. Warlords 2 would be even better, but it’s cool to see the classic Warlords 1 map.

Found it: here’s a link:
Warlords Classic
That being said, my spider-sense tells me there’s no way that SSG/Infinite licensed this. Anyone know for sure?

The developer himself claims (on internet forums) that it’s licensed:
…and Infinite Interactive links to the game from their Facebook page. Good enough for me – BOUGHT.
