Ascension is on sale for the first time…for a buck. So on the off chance anyone here doesn’t already have it…
That’s me! I will download it tonight and see if I can drum up some interest in an iOS game for a couple weeks.

Totally worth it and then some. The thing has consumed me since I picked it up 5 or 6 weeks ago. My Words with Friends games have become more and more neglected. I am not much of a multiplayer guy, but I checked and have played 162 games over this span and I am not exaggerating when I say I have played upwards of 5 times that many A.I. games. I would not be surprised if that factor was closer to 10 times. All my MP games have been against Qt3/BF opponents. There are still plenty of people playing regularly.
If we are not Game Center buds, shoot me a request and once you feel comfortable shoot me a challenge. Then join the league for May. Turns out, they don’t bite after all.
Majesty is free today. Also, totally worth it at that price.
For Hero Academy players:
I’m gathering names for the Tournament of May! This will take the place of the league until there is some kind of renewed mass interest in this game.
For those who don’t want to click that link, here’s what I wrote in that thread:
Here’s how it will work. The list of names will be randomized, and everyone will play the person above and below, choosing races at random. That’s just two games per person per round. Anyone who loses both games gets the axe. If by chance no one loses both games in a round, everyone with the worst cumulative record will be axed. We continue in this fashion until only two people remain, and they play to be champion.
I really like this tournament style because almost anyone can get axed, almost anyone can win, and it plays super fast even by Hero Academy standards.
If you are interested, please PM me your Hero Academy nickname!
We are having great fun with this style of tournament for the game Ascension. We’re on our third iteration. This tournament plays fast and does not put a strain on anyone, as you’ll be playing at most two games at a time.
Happy Monday. Our studio team is sponsoring a contest around Fairway Solitaire…in case you are interested.
In short, we’re asking users to submit a design for the card backs in the game
and the winner will get:
- their design featured in a future update of the game
- in-game credit for their work (full bragging rights)
- a $50 itunes card to sweeten the deal
Full rules can be read here:
http://bigfishgames.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1950
also, it’s just a single card design; not the entire game. if you need help with a concept, our design team can assist.
stick figures (for folks like me who can’t draw!) will be considered!
if you have any questions, please post here or direct message me
What a cool idea for a contest. Thanks for dropping by to let us know.
I always love to see devs posting here in support of their games.
Our pleasure. And thanks for the feedback!

I saw news of a game called Wings of Valor, a remake of the Apple 2 classic Wings of Fury. Anyone from that era? :)
Wolfenstein 3D is free today. Download it. Kill Nazis.
It’s its 20th anniversary today!

Crow is .99 and seems quite neato so far. Really enjoying the dreamy atmosphere.
Good Lord. To me, that’s still “new Castle Wolfenstein.”

I had not heard about Swordigo before, I just noticed that it’s made by the creators of Soosiz which is my favorite iOS platformer though so I’m gonna try it. Thanks for the heads-up!
I had no idea about that. Swordigo’s been on my App Shopper list since it was well received earlier this year. Now I’m even more excited to grab it when I get home.
It’s a fun little Metriodvania style side scrolling game. I enjoyed it though there are parts where you fight the touch controls.
Ascension: Soul of Storms is now available! Also an update for the first two versions, plus Retina support!
Ascension’s great new update includes a full-blown in-app store, which is where you buy Storm of Souls and the first of what I assume will be multiple promotional card packs. So a game that was designed to circumvent some of the frustrations of CCGs is making its first tentative steps towards becoming a CCG. Of course the center draw system will spare us from the worst of CCG design.
I’ve played two Storm of Souls matches so far, and was annoyed to see the AI snatching up any and all Mechana Constructs whenever it was able, as it does in the other sets. It’s almost like that behavior is hard coded. Maybe the still-MIA 3rd difficulty level will address that across all sets.
