As someone said in the Ascension thread, the AI seems to be designed to prioritize cards with high honor/rune ratios. And since mechana constructs have the highest ratios, that’s why you see it picking them up all the time (whether it makes sense or not).
Why anyone cares about the AI in Ascension is beyond me. :)
True, when you have the QtT monthly tournaments you can always have tons of games going at the same time.
Some of us actually like to know how it feels to win now and again =P

How is Sid Meier’s Pirates on the iPhone? I fear my memory of love of the game from “the old days” may marred by a bad experience on the phone.
Duke Nukem 3D has gone free.

I’ve heard it is surprisingly good with only an issue with ‘lag’ in the sword fights or something.
Now, I haven’t played it myself, but I was in the same boat (see what I did there?) and have been reading a few reviews here and there.
It’s good, even on the older devices. The graphics are a little jaggy on a 3rd Gen ipod touch (the non retina one) but it is very playable, especially if you know the mechanics. If you are new to the game, the amount of options and quests might be a little overwhelming for a gamer that only plays iphone games.

Just bought SM’s Pirates, one of my favorite games of all time. Just hoping they left out the dancing challenge, LOL!
Anyone tried Conquest! Medieval Realms yet? Thoughts?
The dancing is now an Elite Beat Agents tap and swipe event.
It’s okay for a simple strategy game. They’re still getting the interface just right for purchasing units and buildings, but otherwise it is a turn based area control game. (I’m getting interrupted by work phone, I’ll post a more detailed description in a bit. I’m enjoying it.)

Having fun with this one!! thanks… although the cloud saves doesn’t appear to be working :/
I can’t get my ipad game to show up on my ipod Touch.
other then that, nice side scrolling platformer.
Scotland Yard, based on the board game, is out today for a launch price of $5.
Anyone messing with The Sandbox? There’s probably a word for this style of game because I know I’ve played things like this on websites before. It’s like a sort of pixel/particle ecosystem thing, dump some sand, dump water on top of it, now you’ve got mud pixels! Dump oil on them, set it on fire, etc. No real goal, but sort of fun to noodle with for a while.
This take on it is more robust, including actual environment settings and whatnot. It looks like it could be fun, but I’m not sure how skewed toward its freemium model it is. You have to unlock different materials as you go, with some in game ways of earning currency but also IAP shortcuts. I haven’t gotten far enough to know how limited or grind it will get if I don’t pony up a few bucks. But it’s probably worth at least poking around with for a few minutes, cause hey, free!
Anyway, asking because I’m stuck on the “Oil Lamp” level. I don’t really understand the victory condition.
Why can’t this be a universal game? I so hate playing iPod/iPhone games on iPad. And I don’t have an iPod touch, nor an iPhone.
I played probably an unhealthy amount of Wings of Fury so I got Wings of Valor back when you posted this. Unfortunately I have a 4th gen iPod touch, and the release version crashed on completion of the mission loading screen. Saw the update today which fixed that…
Still buggy, elevator did not go down on mission completion at one point no matter how I parked, and I had two crash to desktops (or iPod menu screen, whatever you call it). Had to shut down everything running in the background (seriously, why is this game taking that much memory?) Did not get to play up to the point where enemy airplanes are coming at you, which I remember as being fun. Otherwise seems to be a pretty faithful remake. Couple of differences:
-
The controls are good.
-
I don’t remember an unlock system on ammo types in the original. Having them in this is probably an improvement.
-
In the AII game, if you climbed high enough the view shifted so the plane was very small. You could see much further, and if you were good at using rockets you could hit the gun emplacements at pretty low risk. Can’t do that here.
-
Don’t remember a Japanese career in the original. Changes the graphics a little (the carrier is clearly a IJN carrier) otherwise the two careers seem the same.
-
Landing is a whole lot easier on the iPod than I remember it on the AIIe. Not sure if its actually easier or if I’ve just played a lot more games since then. :)
-
I don’t remember moving bomb targets in the original. This has trucks that roam.
-
Barracks can get rebuilt in the iOS version.
That said, I’m uninstalling it and probably won’t ever pick it up again. If you never played Wings of Fury, the game basically is that you’re flying a fighter bomber in WWII. Each mission, you get to attack a certain number of islands. On those islands are barracks and defenses and a set number of soldiers. If you destroy a machine gun nest, the survivors try to run to one of the other defenses on the island to keep shooting at you. A typical island might have three nests and two barracks. So on the first pass you destroy all three guns and the two barracks by dropping bombs. Then you turn around and strafe the unarmed little infantry as they run to their new positions. (Think Choplifter, but the idea is to kill the hostages…) This was great fun back in the 80s … it wasn’t feeling right/wasn’t fun when I played the game just now.
But YMMV… it sure seems to be a very faithful remake to Wings of Fury.
