Just found out that if you create a playlist on iTunes called “GTA” you can select that on the radio station in Chinatown Wars. I’m gonna have to buy this.
Argh. GTA is not avaliable here… it was the other day, but not anymore. Strange that.

Thanks for the recommendation, being a sucker for Puzzle Quest like games this was a must buy. I played it for 3 straight hours, only quitting because of the dreaded QT3 time.
Best iPhone game, ever.
GTA is already the #1 top grossing app.
Be interesting if the iPhone version becomes the most profitable version out of all the other platform releases. (I think it sold less than 100,000 on the DS).

bought sword and poker based on your recc’s
i think the GTA game is a bit to much for me to just buy blindly so i’ll wait for more impressions
GTA China Wars is pretty good on the iphone. I don’t think its a must have.

I agree with this.
If you already have the DS or PSP versions it’s not a must-have, but it’s the best version of what is probably the best GTA game.
Does this version of GTA actually add the fun? ;)

For me it does. I got bored quickly with the various GTA3 incarnations and didn’t bother with GTA4, but I’ve put a few dozen hours into the DS version of Chinatown Wars.
Huh, I’ll give it a look once it drops in price. Thanks!
Same as nlanza here. I quit GTA4 in disgust about three hours in, but became addicted to Chinatown Wars on the DS. I haven’t played the iPhone port, but if the core gameplay is the same it’s totally worth $10.

This reaction is why I’m a little worried about the iPhone game market long-term.
I’m not picking on Brian specifically, but if the iPhone marketplace doesn’t think a game like GTA:CW that would (and did!) cost $30-$40 on other mobile platforms for a less-good version is worth TEN DOLLARS, how the hell are we going to end up with anything but $0.99 puzzle games and cheap soulless Gameloft clones of things in the long term?
nlanza, you have a point. I’ll get it at $10. ;)
Considering it rocketed to #1 in sales, and a lot of other games pricier than $.99 consistently make the top gross revenue charts, I think the iPhone marketplace is already willing to pay more for quality – especially if it’s from an established franchise or developer. There are just so many unknown and/or first-time publishers developing for it that I’m not willing to pay more than a few bucks for their games right now unless I get strong recommendations from folks I trust.

I also jumped on the Sword & Poker bandwagon. I usually don’t like card-based games, but I’m a sucker for puzzle RPGs.
It’s pretty goddamn good for a buck.

Just a couple of missions in with Chinatown Wars but man the targeting is the worst system I’ve seen in all GTAs ever made and that says a lot.
I already like the music better than GTA4 though.

A few floors further in, let me amend this to “Holy crap, I shouldn’t have bought this at work, I’m not gonna get ANYTHING done today”.
