You’re probably right. That and DLC – with a couple of the better puzzle games I’ve bought I almost wanted to write to the authors and tell them “Look, you’re leaving money on the table by selling this damn thing for a buck with TWO HUNDRED LEVELS. Sell it for a buck with 50-100 levels, and make the rest an in-game purchase for another buck.”

But then you open up with a straight flush and all is forgiven.

I did this as a free promo for the iphone

what do you think? Gameplay starts at 2:40, but you could watch the “intro”
thanks for any comments…

argh swords and poker is so addictive. sorry, civrev

I picked up Pac-Man Championship Edition and the expansion pack is more expensive than the game was…

That’s a weird case, though, because the base game still has more levels than the original XBLA version, and it’s not even the sort of game where I particularly want a bunch of levels - it’s about going for the high score on one of them. I don’t really know what they were thinking.

For those looking it up, it’s SWORD and poker, not swords. Confused me for a bit (you know, like a few seconds).

Reign of Swords is free today. Get it.

If you were checking AppVentCalendar in December, it’s back now in secular form as www.freeappaday.com. And as Marcus says, Reign of Swords is up there today. NOW I see how it works – I missed Zombie Pizza yesterday and I’m sorely tempted to spend a couple of bucks on it. :)

Card stealing in Sword & Poker is amazingly fun. Still hoping to find a weapon that’ll have card steal on flushes, I get them all the time since I haven’t switched from the Suit Sort spell you get first.

Sword & Poker is freaking amazing. It might be the best $.99 I’ve ever spent.

It is such a simple concept but it works really well. It is a game that works great on the platform and doesn’t try to do more then it should. We need more games like this and I would certainly pay more for it.

Hey Newbrof and Equis, just want to give a shout out for your two great games released recently!

I’ll chime in and add my support for Sword & Poker, really great original mechanics and pretty ideal pacing for an iPhone game. Totally pulled me away from Chinatown Wars, which, while impressive, feels like it’s fighting with the platform half the time.

Yeah, Sword & Poker is really good. Saved me from a boring 4 hour train journey yesterday.

So, Reign of Swords looks pretty promising. I’m getting more of a Fantasy General vibe than an Advance Wars vibe, since it seems to have more of that FG element of developing your army over time. The lack of that feature always kept me from getting too excited about AW; canned missions with the same preset units every time just isn’t the same.

Sword and Poker also looks cool, though I’ve only played a few matches.

And I’d just like to say that Karen is incredibly addicted to Spider: the Secret of Bryce Manor.

To Tom or anyone else playing The Quest:

What layout do you use? Navigation on the sides or at the bottom? I’m finding both to be pretty poor. I wish it had the same navigation interface as Undercroft.

I prefer the vertical arrangement, partly because you can see a bit more in the minimap, but also because I can stab at various buttons with two thumbs instead of one. Also, if you don’t like the movement buttons – is that what you mean by the navigation interface? – you can move around using swipe gestures on the main screen.

Really enjoying Dots which is free today. Cool puzzle game that is pretty unique.

Found this free cool little puzzle game using App Sniper. It’s pretty addictive and is supposed to improve memory, preception and reaction times.

Lite version of Call of Duty Zombies is out, seems pretty neat. Runs decently smoothly on my 3G / non-3GS iPhone, and controls well enough to work. Though the Lite version only has a tutorial and a limited first level, so there’s no way to tell how playable it would be once things start getting crazy.

There’s also a Lite version of Heavy Mach 2 that just released. The original Heavy Mach was a really fun side-scroller, and Heavy Mach 2 switches to a top-down perspective with a great-sounding control scheme. Anyone try it out yet?
