150m of cargo? That’s not all that much. I’ve carried more in an untanked Mammoth.

Advice:

Get an Insta-Undock from Jita 4-4. This should put you straight into warp.

Mr. Spacebucks McBillionaire are we? It’s a lot to me. ;)

If it’s not a lot to be worth ganking, I’ll just go with the insta-undock. I’ve just never done trading so I’m a bit worried. I mean I wouldn’t lose near 150m if I lost a battlecruiser. And I suppose Jita is like coming to the big shmoke, low-sec and null-sec, big and scarey for the first few times.

150m is almost 3 battlecruisers :p

It’s a lot more with Insurance. :)

You are right, with insurance its 3 battlecruisers.

150m means an average of 75m would drop (50% chance for any item or stack of items).

I dont do much in jita, but when I did(maybe 5 jumps a day… not that much really) I went for the stealth approach: which requires you to have contracts in smaller boxes: so I put 3 of the boxes in my not level 5 industrial, called 2 of em trit and one pyer- then just put in my bio that I am a super good hauler of minerals.

Hundreds of meh haulers just like me go through jita an hour, if someone ganks me I am a dead man, but hopefully noone will bother with you.

As for the 0.0: I have a buddy who flys an ishtar and I can fly one as well- I have a lot of experience with 4/10 plexes, but they nerfed my favorite(Serpentis Phi outpost operator used to be worth 50m in salvage, 3m bounty, 100-300 mil in drops<Vigilant BPC>::: now he is 3m bounty, 1-3 mil salvage, 1-5m drops)

I am hoping to just pull around 100ish mil for half a night of faffing about.

So ThornFalconeye, i’m guessing your cash flow is going great now? hah

It’s probable that someone undocks with a richer cargo than that about once a minute at Jita IV - 4. 150mil doesn’t make you a tempting target, it just makes you routine traffic. I understand why you’re worrying - I did too - but almost every suicide ganker in Jita is looking for bigger fish than you (I guess possible exceptions would be anyone doing it semi-randomly, for fun).

I believe Jita IV (the planet) is itself essentially an insta for Jita IV - 4. That gets you out of the station before any cargo-scanner alt can get your info, and after that you’re pretty much home free. (Test this with an empty ship - or just make your own insta with a fast frigate).

Alternatively the courier route should work too (assuming the destination is in high-sec). Set the collateral to approx Sale Price + 5%, the reward doesn’t need to be more than 500k for up to ten jumps, maybe a bit more for a longer run. I run my entire trade business through courier contracts and as far as I can tell it hasn’t attracted any competition. To be honest I think the people who run couriers aren’t going to be traders; they might quickly check the contents to see whether you’ve made a boo boo with the collateral value, but they’re unlikely to be interested in your super-sekrit trade route.

But really, unless you have an empire war going on I don’t think you have much to worry about. Just keep your hands away from that autopilot!

:thumbs up:

Thanks for that.

I’m probably just getting worried because this is being funded from a plex I sold, and it’s my first time doing it. It’s awesome fun though, the most solo fun I’ve had in Eve for a while. Actually no, it’s extremely boring, the +0.01 game is a killer, no one else should try trading.

Put the stuff in containers so it can’t get scanned if you’re worried.

Things in containers can most certainly be scanned.

Huh, shows what I know. Nevermind then.

Stuff in an Orca Corporate Hanger doesn’t show if you really want to hide stuff from scanners.

Also regarding

If your tank is too weak, you still might be a silly target just for the giggles if the last hours was slow for the gankers.

Speaking as a courier, no, I don’t try and figure out what people are doing. :) I do look in every container because I’m curious what people are hauling, but generally collateral is way more expensive than the items being moved. Haven’t spotted a mistake yet.

50k a jump is a good rate for couriers. More would be nice (obviously), but you have to make money, too.

get an insta-undock BM. Also, P4 used to be a natural insta but with the changes to planets radius and unlocking at random degree it’s no longer the case
transports are not useless! The +2 wcs one benefits from vastly higher EHP than the T1 counterpart (raw numbers + resists)

A 150m cargo is not worth the sec hit and the effort to reship for a suicide ganker. They would have to be particularly bored and about to quit for the night to even consider it - because in the time spent waiting for the criminal flag to go away they might miss something actually worth shooting.

I routinely fly untanked Iterons out of Jita with a lot more cargo than that. In general gankers are not looking closely at your tank, especially on the Jita undock where they have to decide quickly whether or not to engage. They’ll balance your ship type against the cargo you are hauling and make the go or no-go decision based on that. For most industrials a tank makes effectively no difference anyway, the alpha strike from a couple of gank fit BC or BS will melt you with or without the puny tank you can fit.

If you are a significant gank target then there are a couple of things you can do. Firstly and most obviously, break the cargo up into less attractive chunks. You can then haul it away yourself or get someone else to do it with courier contracts in relative safety.

Undock in something hard to gank. As stated above any industrial is toast in the face of a gank squad so either ferry it out in a passively brick-tanked battleship (Ravens make surprisingly good haulers and are unlikely to get scanned to boot) or take it out in a freighter. It takes approximately 20 gank fit battleships to kill a freighter in 0.5 sec and that number goes up with the sec rating as Concord react faster. You are effectively gank-proof in a freighter in Jita. None of this applies in lowsec or if you are engaged by wartargets of course as they can take as long as they like to shoot you then, but you aren’t dumb enough to undock with wartargets in local are you?

Some couriers hide their cargo by filling the cargo hold with bookmarks. Scanners have a limit to how many items they will return plus there’s a limit to how far people will scroll down the list. Bookmarks take up almost no space and will mask other items in your hold. Some gankers I have spoken to though say that they always target haulers with holds full of bookmarks anyway on the assumption that they are probably hiding something worth shooting over. Also you will lag your client to hell when you open the cargo hold.

Insta-undocks are your friend. You should have one for every station you regularly visit just in case. They take a few minutes to set up if you can fly a fast ship like an Interceptor and not much longer if you just do it in a shuttle - set speed to full, go for a smoke/snack/porn session and when you come back you should be good to go.

Well it would be- except I just lost 3 ishtars worth around 200m each because my mum requires tech support at horrid times.(and one was just me vs undock pirates)

Uuugh, 3 ishtars? Ouch, that would completely wipe me out.

heh it did: until I sold my last navy domi(410m)

which is why I am heading to 0.0 with a buddy to do rats
