To antifood, don’t let these folks dissuade you from any race or combo you would like to try, even something as crazy as “these racial ships look cooler,” is a valid argument to who you want to fly for.
I have chosen the Caldari route twice and I can state that for PvE it is an absolute godsend to fly their ships. For PvP, I’ve heard mixed results but I don’t think you’ll have a hard time flying caldari in a gang or larger battle. One on one though, you aren’t going to stand up long to some of the other races.
Love or hate it, the Drake is an awesome PvE running ship, I use it even more than a battleship and I have good skills for either. It’s highly configurable for PvP with either a passive or buffer tank and a wide set of 7 launchers for missiles that can be matched to the mission enemy. It’s also fairly cheap and can be pretty easily flown through missions with even low skills.
I’m quoting this for pretty extreme agreement. I’ve played with several folks now who don’t get past this point. I’ve even left myself for this very reason. Training should not interfere with you doing things … now. So you can’t get in that HAC for a while, PvP in your frigate. You will learn more anyway. So you can’t fly a mission battleship, PvE in your cruiser or battlecruiser instead. So you can’t mine in a Hulk yet, learn to can mine in your mining cruiser instead. Better yet, grab a few friends and learn how to group mine while rotating hauling duty.
Don’t be the next person to leave the game because you get stuck in a rut of “well why should I log in today, I’ll have somedumbskill level 5 next week, I’ll just take a week off.” One week leads to two, and before you know it, you are wasting your sub fee without playing Eve.
Hehehehe. Don’t forget the ship names as well. I mean, lets be honest here. How awesome does Apocalypse or Armageddon sound in comparison to … a Raven.

Ah … do I have to fix all your post :D ;)

There’s a graphics bug that pops up with me occasionally with the Catalyst. All the… “connecting” pieces of the model are missing. So basically I see a bunch of guns attached to engines floating around in space, with nothing connecting them together.
Usually docking and undocking again corrects it for me.

But…but…why would you ever want to fix that bug? If the catalyst was literally all guns and engines, i’d unpack my destroyer collection again!
Gah, I wish I had more time to play online, and a more stable internet connection to do so. Passive tanked drake and PI are the only things I can do safely (no net isk loss) right now, unless i start spreadsheets and try some market games. Or…find a nice mission mining pocket…

Haha, I hear you dwolfe. I actually don’t mind the look with the graphics glitch, it looks like the ship is held together by some kind of energy field or something. I was just fleshing out the graphics glitch that (I think) MrCoffee was referring to.

Wait, why would you play where you can see anything other than the overview spreadsheet? ;)
I can see how that glitch could be problematic when getting hung up on invisible objects.
I seriously wish they would implement a large-fleet/netbook mode with no graphics in the main window. Where you could select it to just show red crosses or dots for select things you want to see from the overview to see where in space they lie. Like a DRADISview, no fancy anything.
I’ve had destroyer kills give me better income than cruiser kills. I don’t think any have been worth as much as a BC kill, although there are some awfully crappy BC fits out there.
The guys who lose a BC to a Rifter get really cranky though.
That would really suck for flying an interceptor tho.

Funny story, I was in a 3 BC gang running a hard mission when we were jumped by a HAC. 2BC’s died and the third bailed.
Fortunately I was the one who bailed, but lets just say there were some cranky folks on Ventrilo. This is when I learned the lesson that PvE skills, ships, builds, and piloting do not equate to anything remotely like what you should be doing in PvP.

I do wish there was more overlap between PVE and PVP setups. I’d love to run missions in Lowsec for my income, but I really feel like gank-bait in PVE loadouts.

Um…‘as an option’… to reduce server stress (hopefully) and let someone play on low-end systems where the lag is client based. not instead of the normal view.

From dropped modules, ransoming, or both…?
When the hell would someone fly a dessie unless it was to salvage/loot a mission/etc?
Dropped modules and mission loot, mostly.
And the Thrasher is a great little PvP boat. A few of those kiting you can ruin your whole day.

We did entire gangs of them that could alpha strike a BS no problem. Was great fun.
Destroyers, especially alpha trashers are pretty awesome to use in low sec gate camping or in FW complex.
