Dunno if eve uni is wants someone to teach people how to sing in vent.

The Uni is always changing Bucephs experience is based on part of the people that were present then.
There are a lot of low-sec roams going around so there is somewhat more PvP going on. Another FC is at it looks sometimes chasing carriers so bigger stuff is there to kill as well. I suggest having a look at the uni killboards to see what’s being fielded and what’s being lost in non war times.
War times are totally difference as the war time rules limit your operations very heavily in all areas (apart from trading ).
TBH you small gang pvp experience is likely something they could use, but knowing the uni you ll have hard times finding good PvP with their RoE. Actually that’s the reason why Dierdra Vaal created Thukk U. To provide a corporation eve uni members could go and then learn more PvP without the strict RoE of the uni in an environment that leads to more PvP.
Thukk U is somewhat bare currently, my industriel/wormhole corporation is running an 2 weeks apprenticeship for uni members to experience life in a wormhole system. That takes a lot of time and I like flying with friends so Im more and more on on TRECI and dont have time to really “run” thukk U, aka take out fleets in militia, start fleets in corp or so.
So why all that ?
Because Thukk U seriously needs someone to make it more active and with that attractive to the uni students more and I cant do that right now.
I can drop a good word for you at dierdra but you dont actually need it. They are always looking for instructors and with your background you should suit in fine. If you notice that the uni RoE start limiting you enough and you have gained some “reputation” among the uni istas, I invite you to bring those into thukk u for a more extended and offensive take on PvP ;) .
The transition from Eve Uni to Thukk U was so far always dependent on my visibility in corp as well on the forums and with RL and TRECI Im lacking enough time to dedicate enoug energy and time into Thukk U :-(

The people I was talking about are still there. But to be clear, I think the Uni is an amazing entity. I doubt I’d still be playing Eve if it wasn’t for them. I just think that people need to realise that there are definite limitations to the Uni. And getting good PVP practice is one of them. By the time you get to a graduate position there, after three months or so, you really should be moving on if you want to seriously get into PVP. In fact I’d imagine the Uni would get limiting after two months if you fly a lot. It’s partly the ROE and it’s partly the fleets they fly. When you have hundreds of low SP people available for a fleet, all of whom are perfectly entitled to be included in an op, it definitely puts limits on the way you operate.
I also think that some of the higher ups have become a little stale. They’ve spent too much time in the Uni and lost sight of other playstyles and even how to play. I’d definitely think that some of them need a sabbatical and to get back to normal Eve play, and not the highly regimented style of the Uni.
All that being said, there are some great people in the Uni. And it’s of huge benefit to anyone new to Eve.
Juan: If as you say, you enjoy running gangs of small ships, I’d say the Uni would love to have you. The best FC I can remember from my time with them is Korr’Tanas. He’s very patient, as you need to be, and runs good fleets. Fly with him a few times and you’ll get an idea of how the Uni operates, then you should be able to branch out on your own, taking fleets out.
The Uni is a great experience, and a fantastic asset to the whole of Eve. But it does have limitations.
Trying to grind some standing for my buddies in Gallente federation, so they can do some pvp with me, and it is pretty tough to do with my horrid dominix. :( Should I crosstrain caldari for the opportunity to use the drake, or not? I kind of do missions, not a bunch, but I have gallente Battleship 5 (I can also just upgrade to a megathron or something if it would help- gunnery and drone skills are both ok)
There’s nothing wrong with going for some Caldari training if you think you are going to PvE a lot more. The Drake especially isn’t too tough on initial skills, but to get one into a level 4 mission, that’s a different story. The Drake itself is about 8 parts awesome and 2 parts snooze inducing when it comes to PvE.
To be honest, you’re lacking some overlap here. For the Drake you are looking at heavy missiles and passive shield skills, which, if you have flown Gallente exclusively, you might not have any of. It sounds like you just want more tank, so I would stick with something that leverages armor tank or your weapon specialties a bit more. Most Domi builds are hybrid turrets though so it might be that you will either be able to match the tank type, or the weapon type, but not both.
I’m on the opposite end of your problem. I’m heavily Caldari spec’d but I want to be able to do more for PvP, and I see this giant wall of turret and armor tank skills between me and the finish line.

What’s wrong with the Dominix? That thing is a mission beast with good drone skills, and I’m only running Gallente BS IV. It’s my primary mission ship!
Dominix + Sentry II’s will eat any mission for breakfast.

I’m not sure where the connection between “grinding standing” and “horrid Dominix” is.
If you want to grind standing, you likely want to “speed run” lvl3s as they go faster. Also some recommend doing courier missions to get fast standing. Another thing is that for empire faction standign you ll need to ensure that your closes story line agent is at best from the same corporation you are working on.
You want also to get a lot of lvl3 missions as you want those story line missions as those effect your faction empire standing the most, hence doing lvl3s, rather than lvl4s as you can do em way faster.
Also a dominix can be not to bad in doing mission, his set of drones and having lvl5 at the BS skill should output some nice dps, even on the med/light drones.
Having gunnery and drones and looking for something else, you might be better of going into the typhoon, where you can re use your gunnery skills and your drone skills.
Another thing is aiming for command ship to even further specialize in gallente and speed up the lvl3 missions.
If its just “needing more tank” you can for mission almost fill all your mids with cap rechargers and then run two large armor reppers perma, which for lvl3 should be more than sufficient ;).

Yea, my setup is:
Mids: All Cap Recharger IIs except for one Omni Tracking Link for the drones. Gardes will nail even cruisers at close range with that.
Lows: 1x Cap Power Relay, 4x Hardener, 2x LAR
Highs: Who needs high slots on a domi? :P Usually a laser (pull aggro and don’t have to worry about forgetting ammo), drone link aug, and shield/armor reps for friends or drones.
Also, getting a sentry drone damage rig makes a big impact. I usually have one of those and two capacitor rigs, which leaves me cap stable with both LARs.
I’ve never seen anything in a L4 that can break that tank on a Domi, which you can’t really get away with on gunships because of powergrid issues.
Oh… and that drone bay on the Dominix. Oh man, I have a hard time using other mission ships. With 375ish capacity, I’ve got a flight of Lights, Mediums, Sentries, Heavies, and some left over for repair drones (for friends).
My domi was originally set up to massive tank- 10 mins of tank with 2 LAR’s, but even with tech 1 sentries(T2 mediums) and no guns, I do around 240 DPS: so my problem is my dps seems very low compared to other comparable mission ships ive seen- too much tank for my gank. So what I have swapped to is using a omni link and a drone speed upgrade in my mids, letting me finally kill battleships before they can get to me, and can run 1 LAR forever, pulsing the other one.
This has really helped so far- because my problem was it took me like 2 or 3 hours to do level 4 missions, because I did no damage
Swapping to level 3’s has helped, instead of 1 mission an hour i can do like 4 missions an hour- because all I care about(well money is nice to have) is the storyline missions, because those are the only ones that give gallente navy standing.
So right now im running for T2 medium guns and maybe a ECM boat, as I can use HAC’s- hooray!
did you vary drones according to the NPCs in the mission? This would have a big impact on your dps
in other news, CSM minutes have been released
CCP says: "we’re not fixing anything until walking in station/Dust " comes out

Wait, what? I thought, “less expansions and more focus on fixing issues,” meant … fixing stuff. :(
Like i said the other day, the Blasterthron does a lot of damage to the serpentis but you are going to have to get into close range :p
that’s what most (let’s be honest, all not most) players want: for CCP to fix stuff
unfortunately, CCP have apparently already allocated all the resources available for the next 3 expansions
and those resources will go towards walking in stations and Dust
CCP will think about fixing stuff once they have released WiS and Dust. So, expect things to move on that front in 1-3 years
At least, that’s my interpretation of the information available in the minutes
Unless there is a lot of nice stuff coming with Incarna too its going to be a weak expansion.

I played Eve Online for a while. The one thing which really affected my enjoyment was the UI. It really is horrible. One of these expansions really need to overhaul the entire UI in my opinion. It also really needs better information regarding weapons/equipment/skills via tooltips. Some of the stuff you can get is so obscure you need an online dictionary just to be able to tell what the hell it does.
Maybe if they rework the entire UI then I’ll give it another whirl.

Yea, the UI certainly hasn’t aged well. It does have a lot of handy things, but all in all it’s not very intuitive to a new player.
And yea, item info is full of useless or near useless stats. They could at least prioritize them or something. :)
After playing it a bit, this is still my biggest gripe. I didn’t appreciate how nice the UI modding community was for WoW until I switched to a game with no UI modding allowed and a UI that’s barely serviced from 2003. Seriously, it needs a lot of work. It doesn’t scale well, it takes up tons of room and doesn’t share what you want it to at times. When playing sometimes I get flashbacks of being a Unix admin back in the mid 90’s and trying to get X Windows set up for a user.
