I agree for the most part. Some continuing restrictions on contact with children seems justified in the case of pedophiles, but that’s the only exception I would make.

Huh. I admit I’m not hanging on every word the various candidates utter at this stage, but every interview I’ve seen of Buttigieg his answers seem pretty thorough. I also have the impression that he tends to actually answer the questions more often than most, instead of just pivoting to prepared talking points.

Pete’s numbers with African Americans are terrible. Not quite Bernie 2016 terrible (and Bernie 2020 numbers with blacks are much better than they were last time around) but they’re bad.

I’m open to arguments that prisoners shouldn’t be allowed to vote, but (like Scott), I haven’t actually heard any so far. There are good and obvious reasons why a person serving a prison sentence can’t have freedom of movement or their second amendment rights. However I don’t see why voting rights get bundled up in that package.

If prisoners voted the US would be rid of prison gerrymandering and it would allow more proportional representation for minority men. What is the offsetting harm that justifies removing voting rights?

In Canada, prisoners have the right to vote. I haven’t noticed any negative impacts from that.

They are being punished do we really need an additional reason? What’s the point of jail sentences for non violent crimes, fine for non-property crimes, or depriving them of internet access in their cells or netflix?

As a practical level prisoner get into enough fights as it is, I see no reason to introduce additional polarizing and fight inducing issues.
