Wealth requirement would probably be considered a poll tax, and therefore illegal.

That said, landowning requirements to vote were never found to be unconstitutional- a really desperate state to keep Republican control might try that.

I’m not trying to debate anything. I’m trying to explain how ballot requirements and state primary elections work. States decide who goes on the ballot using a set of criteria they decide. That’s how it works and has always worked.

I know how they work, thanks. Knowing how they work is not incompatible with pointing out the flaws in how they work.

Edit: No, that’s not at all fair. Sorry, @HumanTon, I retract that. You are explaining how it works, and the explanation is helpful.

I don’t mean a wealth requirement to vote, and I don’t mean a wealth requirement to be elected, and I don’t mean a wealth requirement to serve. I mean a wealth requirement to appear on the ballot. After all, I’m told, those ballot requirements aren’t an impediment to actually getting elected.

I donated to his campaign on monday. This is the kind of fire in the belly that is needed. Calling out not only trump and the gop but the media and their nonfactual bothsides fairness crap. I agree Beto, wtf?

California’s primary system is absolutely terrible. There was the very real possibility that we could have lost the House in 2018 because of our horrible primary system. Open primaries are bad. Jungle primaries are even worse. California Democrats need to get their shit together so that they strongly and publicly endorse one candidate in each race. The potential for fuckery there is rather large.

Where has this Beto been?!

I promise you he would not be polling at the margin of error had this come up months ago. This is exactly the kind of ‘fuck you Trump, and fuck you too media’ we need.

Yes, I doubt that even a GOP strategist could devise a form that only Republicans are capable of filling out.

And any such form has to be viewpoint neutral (First Amendment). So “Write a 1000 word essay on why liberals are bad” would be unconstitutional.

You do not need to prove anything other than your age and that you are a natural born citizen. You might be asked to answer certain questions, but it wouldn’t matter what you answered as long as it’s truthful.

There’s a twitter thread for the ages in that.

Thing is, this is not his natural state. Hes a kind, gentle guy who tries very hard to listen to people and convey empathy, which im sure is what hes been doing in iowa, a few people at a time. This anger is a direct, and appropriate, response to the same crap we keep seeing and that few people are calling out. Its like the gif of obama kicking open the door after a press conference.

I hope it gets some people outside texas to read his actual policies on climate, immigration, healthcare, etc cause hed do things right if given the chance.

High grades for humor. Low grades for imagination and foresight.

Unfortunately, the people Republicans hire reverse those grades.

This is… not what you want to see going into an election.

Strong unfavorable is not simply folks who won’t vote for you… that’s a chunk of people who will go to bat against you, virtually no matter who the other person is.

If I were in his campaign I wouldn’t be too concerned about that until I see those numbers in places like Florida and Ohio (I’m really glad to see that in PA, but he can win the election without it).

Trump’s reelection is a lot harder without PA.

I don’t want to wish my life away but the next 14 months can’t pass quickly enough.
