I’m shocked that the russian plant is supported by Fox News.

SHOCKED.

I know, right? I remember way back when Tulsi first announced, whatever that site is that tracks the Russian bot accounts warned about activity surrounding her. I’ve been watching her campaign with interest ever since.

Funny way of spelling dread.

Three hours!!??

Sounds like a perfect night to have the TV on in the background

Senator Michael Bennet was on Preet Bharara’s latest pod, and it was honestly inspiring listening to him. I actually stood up on my chair, pumped my first, and said, “NICE!”, it was so good. Seriously, a great listen, and I was impressed with him.

3 hours, I and pretty much everybody the forum is a politically junkie. I don’t think I’m going to sit through 3 hours. I predict a ratings disaster.

Well I wouldn’t sit through 90 minutes of it either, but 3 hours is simply dumb. They better have the candidates wearing costumes and have roasts and comedy sketches in between the candidates.

Now you’re on to something.

I never did learn that lesson, “be careful what you wish for”. Lol

I haven’t listened to the podcast (yet), but this guy is so on point. Whenever I see him on TV I will stop and listen to what he’s talking about because he does such a good job of getting to the crux of the issues. Unfortunately he’s not flashy and doesn’t get much media attention so he’s not getting a place on the next debate stage. I think he’s pretty much done.

I don’t feel too bad about his presidential run. We need good smart people like him in the Senate more than ever, especially in a state that’s not deep blue like Colorado.

It’s funny to see Bennet get the praise. For much of his Senate tenure in Colorado, he has been invisible. In fact, I thought it fairly likely that he would lose re-election in 2016.

His presidential run has done a good job at raising his stature and securing his place in the state.

Who doesn’t want a good kerfuffle today?

So. It’s been often pointed out that a caucus, by it’s very nature, is kind of undemocratic. They’re tough on older folks, the infirm, those who work during caucus time, etc.

Iowa heard all that. They came up with a “Virtual Caucus” plan, to allow people to participate in the Iowa Caucuses via phone app.

Problem: the DNC has been looking at the Virtual Caucus, and found that in its current state, it’s too easy to hack and cheat. So they’ve nixed the Virtual Caucus. In-person caucus only, or…

…and Iowa has said “Well, if we can’t do a virtual caucus, we’re kind of bummed about a regular caucus, because of the reasons people typically point out about them. Maybe we could think about trying a…”

And New Hampshire jumps in: “DON’T YOU EVEN DARE SAY THE WORD ‘PRIMARY’!! We get to hold the first primary! We swear we’ll move ours up if you Iowa bastards switch to a primary.”

There’s a scene in the first episode of the HBO series “From The Earth To The Moon”. Jim Webb, the guy who’ll be charged with running the space program, is in a room with some of his subordinates, and they’re listening to JFK’s speech about putting a man on the moon within the decade.

And Webb puts his head in his hands and says: “Does anybody want my job? Seriously. Does anyone want my job?”

I imagine that’s how Tom Perez at the DNC feels right now.

Personally, I think it’s time for Utah to lead the way and have undue influence on determining the eventual Democrat nominee. Makes about as much sense as Iowa.

Fuck iowa and new Hampshire.

Particularly since Iowa’s a fairly safe Republican state at this point. If we can’t have all primaries on the same day, on the weekend before the convention (my fervent wish), can we at least have California and New York as the first voting states since those two collectively host about 30% of the country’s Democrats?

I’d be good with a state like PA or FL as well. That’s the kind of state that I would really like to see who has the most appeal. I get the counter argument that places like Iowa allow candidates to gain momentum, it just seems weird to me, though. Maybe a whole bunch of small states should have their primaries on the same day?

I just don’t know why those two states should continue to be the ones to build momentum off of. Oh, good, Democrat farmers like Biden. Let’s elect him.

The most charitable thing one can say about Joe is that he has a romantic view of events, facts, history. He naturally tells stories that thematically and morally ought to be true, but which are in fact not true. Thus he marched with the civil rights workers, because he reveres that history and sees himself as philosophically part of it, while in fact of course he did not march with them. He will do this sort of thing — tell a good story which makes a point but turns out not to be true — a thousand times before this is over.
