Hillary Clinton was an awful candidate. Not because she was particular progressive candidate, but because she came with a ton of baggage. @MrGumpy argues that the baggage all right-wing propaganda, and he maybe correct. Never the less, even among my Never Trump Republican friend the dislike/hatred of Hillary is consistent. She also is deficient in the charisma department.

I think Bernie would have done better. Although he would have lost my vote and other traditional Republicans. . Now mind you that was knowing what I knew in 2016, I wouldn’t have voted for either candidate. Today, I’d vote for Bernie in a heartbeat. Overall I think he would have kept a lot of Obama voters who voted for Trump and probably increased turnout, because he has more charisma.

Step one of their long-term plans was to massively increase the budget deficit, which the 2019 tax bill and Republican spending for the military has done. Step two is to make the deficit the number one issue for the next Democratic president.

There was a point at which I’d have imagined that could matter… someone like that could do evil stuff like Trump, but not as obviously, and not get caught.

But Trump gets caught, and then… it doesn’t matter.

So that potential aspect of a “smart Trump” becomes meaningless.

Being smart and self aware, even if that person were evil, would probably still be a beneficial quality, as it would at least cause them to try and conduct themselves within the framework of the law, rather than just doing objectively, obviously stupid crazy shit every day.

Or at least it would have, prior to Trump. Now that it’s been shown just what they can get away with brazenly, I’m not so sure…
