Trump is already going to have a massively bigger campaign 2020 warchest, and now he’ll apparently be using he full might of the DoJ, the military, and US diplomacy against his political opponents just like Russia, and none of the GOP care. I really hope we can survive this but boy this is legit terrifying. Once the final people are purged and it’s all loyalists all the way down is there any coming back from this?

It may be too late for a “return to normalcy” of the kind Biden envisioned. Almost every Republican appointed or elected Federal official is complicit. I can’t imagine white Americans becoming less fearful of their loss of electoral dominance. Preserving representative democracy in the U.S. will be a generational struggle.

Yeah, but how much of that slush fund is just going to go directly to his hotels and businesses? I don’t think the return on investment will be nearly as great as it should be, just because of how many groups are set on making as much money as possible off of Donald.

Umm ok slow your roll there. No need to lump all of us together when it’s pretty clear it’s white Republicans causing the problem.

A question that’s been asked over the couple weeks is, where is Joe Biden? He’s at the center of the news stories, and yet he hasn’t really spoken up about what’s going on. (Other than having his lawyers send CNN a note asking them not to book Trump surrogates spouting obvious lies.)

And this might be the reason we haven’t heard much from Joe:

An ordinary Dem might be in there swinging, especially when his own name is on the line. But Biden has boxed himself in. His big pitch is that he’s the Republican Whisperer, and that he can make the GOP see sweet reason. If he’s publicly shown to be unable to engage and convert Republicans over to his defense, his whole campaign premise is gone. And, of course, he can’t, because the entire Republican party is completely deranged at this point.

So he’s forced to pretend to be above the fray and not engage with the chaos (even though Clinton’s experience in the first part of the 2016 election shows that’s exactly the wrong thing to do.)

This is yuge. Second highest q3 fundraising haul of all candidates, just behind Bernie.

There have been some furrowed brows in the Democratic establishment that while they love Liz, they’re worried that she might be TOO principled to raise the kind of $$ she’ll need.

So yeah. Let’s put that to rest now.

Yeah, I’m sure she is the complete package as a candidate. Plus new street cred for hot sex antics, so she ought to win going away.

Mutually assured destruction between Trump and Biden is not a bad thing. That and with Bernie’s health issues leave a clear path for Warren.

Sounds good on paper.

Not all candidates.

Yeah, but Trump plans to use that money for other stuff. Only mugs use campaign money for campaigns.

Exactly.

The news stories about that funding haul for the RNC caused a lot of pearl clutching but c’mon. Money for ad spending hasn’t been a factor for a while in the General Election. Those of us who played President Elect '84 or the Stardock campaign game tend to vastly overestimate the difficulty and prioritizing of monies in the general.

Li’l Marco indeed.

I have doubts that we are even at war with Eastasia.

What’s the difference between a request and a real request, I wonder?

Add up total haul for all Dem candidates in Q3 and it’s something like $120 million, not including amounts donated to the committee itself, so it looks like rough parity to me. I’m not actually sure where that $125 million number for Trump and the RNC is coming from. Year to date FEC filings by the Trump campaign show $124 million for all of 2019.

Inasmuch as donation numbers represent voter enthusiasm, I think Dems are doing OK. If donations actually affect elections (which they probably don’t much) then a particular Democratic candidate might be behind and in that case:

So far as I can tell, the data is sourced to some media publicist named “John Miller.”

Pretty sure its whether trump or hillary is the one accused.

It’s like the difference between being a Nazi and being an ironic Nazi.
