… Warren was born and raised in Oklahoma, not New England, and is famously friendly - she hangs out for hours after events so supporters can take selfies with her.

But let’s not mere facts get in the way of our stereotypes. Instead, let’s talk for hours about how she should smile more. (I’m not saying she should smile more, no no no. Other people might say that, is what I’m saying. Why can’t she be open and welcoming, like other successful politicians - say, Donald Trump or Mike Pence? Those guys are charmers!)

Therein lies the problem.

It doesn’t matter that the sentiment itself is false. She is a woman seeking office, inherently that stereotype gets trotted out. And rather than point out the sexism and double standard of those pushing that narrative, the media will take the bait and run 1000 articles about ‘some are saying Warren is to shrill, what do you think’ and not ‘Republicans are pushing a sexist lie’

Indeed. If anyone on a ballot for 2020 is shrill, it’s Trump. However, I’d say he’s more nasal in his delivery.

By all means tell off Lemon here, but don’t lose track of the fact that this sort of attitude is a real issue that I hope Warren’s campaign is taking into account.

I try and be precise with my language, and when I say shrill, I mean it, and specifically the way she sounds. It’s the sharp tone of her voice.

It’s unappealing, and it’s a not insubstantial issue as candidate.

Listen to clips of Bill Clinton speaking, or listen to RFKs speech the day that MLK was murdered, listen to how he cracks his voice.

I used to agree that Warren was a bad campaigner and a flat public speaker, but I think she’s really found her groove in the primary. I really wish the flag bearer for the centrist wing of the party was not doddering; I’m afraid the ideological division in the party is going to take away what might be a big issue in the general.

However, I’d say he’s more nasal in his delivery.

He has a very, unique delivery.

He does a really good job of connecting with his audiences though. He’ll speak to them as if it’s a conversation, and he reflexively uses the word we. He’s also very animated, and avoids looking practiced or stiff.

It works for him.

Sorry let, me be more clear. You are always 100% wrong about everything. Therefore, if you are against something, it must be right in at least some degree. If it was not right in some degree, it would be 100% wrong, and then you would be agreeing with it. See? Simple logic.

Short of some incredible self inflicted wound, Trump is going to win. His approvals are high enough, the map favors him, and none of the Democrats are particularly gifted politicians.

If you’re a Democrat, I think impeachment is your best bet. But I don’t think the odds are very favorable there either.

This is all getting a little blatant at this point.

That it does, I agree.

Just to be 100% clear: I don’t think you’re being sexist. Yet precision in language also requires understanding context and connotation. For instance, if I was out camping with some friends and needed kindling which someone had gathered and bound together, I could ask them to go get me that (insert derogatory word for homosexual). However, in lieu of that, I’d merely say “bundle of sticks.” If someone else used the term, I’d be able to use the context and probably get a laugh out of the situation by asking what rock they’d been hiding under the last few decades as I wouldn’t go camping with someone who would intentionally use derogatory terms for homosexuals.
(sorry for the side conversation)

Dan, I appreciate that, and thank you.

No, I’m suggesting that we’re sorry he’s dead, but he was on Medicare, so of course he got the shitty customer service and the rusty scalpels is a defense that isn’t going to play well in a courtroom.

Can anyone point to definitive examples of ‘technology’ approved and covered by your average private insurance HMO plan but disallowed by Medicare? Because I’m guessing those shitty HMOs are barely more aggressive than Medicare when it comes to forking over money for shiny new techniques.

And if Medicare is the only game in town, there will be no doctors declining to see patients because they are on Medicare.

Edit: I’m open to the idea that what everyone should get is veterans’ health care instead, but if we think Medicare has a bad reputation, then my God, veterans’ health care?

Biden rambles and stumbles and constantly forgets stuff, and yet you’re talking about a woman being shrill.

Bernie blusters and bellows and sounds like the proverbial cranky old man telling you to get off his lawn (and gives the same speech over and over again), and yet you’re talking about a woman being shrill.

Trump can’t finish a sentence, babbles incoherently, glowers at everyone, and looks like he hates the world at all times, And yet you’re talking about a woman being shrill.

I wonder why that is?

Look, as much as you and I don’t want to hear it, there’s a knuckle-dragging troglodyte living in an abandoned coal mine up in the Uintah mountains somewhere that just won’t be able to get himself to vote for a woman that keeps insisting on speaking up. THIS IS WHY DONALD TRUMP IS GOING TO WIN.

Well, that and Boris Yeltsin.

Narrator: he is 100% clearly being sexist.

Thank you, this is a great test run for the “100% wrongness” principle. Let’s see how it holds up.

Short of some incredible self inflicted wound

Like, say, releasing the transcript of him selling out US national security in order to chase a QAnon conspiracy, lying about it, recanting, confessing again, walking it back, having his treason verified by a half dozen officials, etc. etc.

Trump is going to win lose

Check!

His approvals are high enough

Are at historical lows

the map favors him

Same as ever, while major purple states creep closer to flipping blue and foreclosing on republicans ever winning another national election.

none of the Democrats are particularly gifted politicians.

Warren, Sanders, and Buttigieg are all great speakers and politicians, and I’m warming up more to Biden every day now. Thanks for that. There’s nothing for party unity like actually having to deal with a reactionary trog.

I agree with you, because the awful Americans outnumber the good ones.

How do you figure? Trump won with a minority of the vote. His approval numbers have been underwater his entire presidency.

The way our country is arranged is an awful person’s vote is worth 1.5x a good person’s one.

Because obviously the approval numbers are being generated by the deep state that is trying to overthrow the mighty Donald Trump. He’ll show them though. And also he’s deported all those millions of illegal voters! Problem solved.

Closer to like 1.2 I think. Though shitty people in Wyoming count for a lot. Of course there are barely any of them.

The real problem is that most people don’t fucking vote.
