Mayor Pete would also be going up against a dangerous lunatic with bad hair.

Yeah. That is a bad take.
By Brendan James? It sure is.

I have no idea what that Brendan James character is on about. I haven’t seen anything from Harris yet, but O’Rourke and (especially) Buttigieg had strong responses to the whole situation.
Is this just more, “say the exact thing I want to hear in the exact way I want to hear it or you’re a Republican” nonsense?
Yep. If you don’t use the hashtag, have you really clapped loudly enough for Tinkerbell? (And I don’t mean to minimize the awfulness and dread seriousness of the President essentially calling for violence against Ilhan Omar by any means…but I do mean to minimize and poke fun at the notion that failure to use a hashtag creates an equivocation on the subject.)
And you’re right. Both Beto and Buttigieg have been unequivocal in their condemnation of Trump and their support of Rep. Omar.
(And yes, kudos to both Sanders and Warren for their unequivocal condemnations as well. Dunno what Harris is doing, or if other candidates have responded.)
This isn’t a good look.
(And maybe don’t make Bob Menendez one of your featured kickoff rally speakers, either. Yeesh. All that’s missing from this is “Get On Your Feet” playing and Champion the dog.)
Oh man, I can’t hear “Get On Your Feet” without entire scenes from that (fantastic) episode playing in my head.
I burst into laughter almost spontaneously when I hear it, too.

That’s quite a spartan turnout.
Buttigieg will be on Maddow Monday night, where she will serve up her usual of half softball and half medium ball questions.
He should just bellow “Biggest crowd in history!”. Seems to work for a good percentage of morons.
Uh, yeah. Buttigieg tweeted a thread that didn’t even mention Omar’s name, and only added a tweet with her name after multiple people responded demanding it.
O’Rourke’s response similarly doesn’t mention her name.
They both wanted the credit for responding but not the blame for actually defending her, or the association with her views.
You aren’t aware of Harris’ response because she has made none.
Here’s Buttigieg’s response, four tweets that don’t mention Omar at all and which could be about almost anything at all coming from Trump’s mouth. He only added the fifth mentioning Omar after all replies asking what he was talking about.

Right, this is what I meant. You have to say things exactly the right way, or people assume you’re on the opposite side of the issue. You take the unkindest-possible take on stuff from people who aren’t your candidate.
It’s diction-based purity tests. Do you really think any of these candidates support Trump here? Or is it just that they didn’t criticize him in the way you would like to see?
This reminds me of GOP criticisms that “Obama won’t say the words Islamic Terrorism, therefore he supports the jihadists.”
Of course not. Instead, I think they are reluctant to turn off voters by openly supporting Omar, and will only do it if forced to by public reaction to their mealy-mouthed protestations. Which is exactly what happened.
I don’t think they’re on the other side of the issue, and neither do those people complaining about their statements. Where did you get a stupid idea like that?
Perhaps the artlessly vague amplification of a writer on twitter who certainly seems to possess that “stupid idea”?
You think James thinks O’Rourke and Buttiweig and Harris are on Trump’s side of this issue? I mean, that’s actually hard to believe.
