People dropping out helps as well.

If the GOP had dropped to 2-3 odds are we’d be lamenting President Rubio’s crappy policy decisions instead of wondering if the republic is over.

Maybe but the idea that, say, Elizabeth Warren “radiates unseriousness” while the GOP hasn’t had a serious President since 1993 is pretty risible to me.

Also the argument that ‘these positions I have self declared as hallmarks if not being serious because this isn’t the time for them’ is laughable.

It’s never the time. Bernie pushes ideas that weren’t the time for, yet unless someone puts them forward it is never the time. Until it is, and it only becomes so once people stop listening to that claptrap and actually put them out there. The EC is broken, but it isn’t the time to talk about fixing it? Screw that, talk about it. To pretend that we can only talk about 3-4 topics is unserious.

I’m not sure George Will is relevant anymore. His brand of conservatives no longer influence their own party, so his comments on Democratic candidates matter not at all.

Give it another 230 years.

But of the field that has even a remote chance, who would that be? This is a group of very solid candidates. Maybe when Dennis Kucinich throws his hat in the ring and starts pulling in double digit support, then such silly statements may have some basis.

ITT: Folks who would in some circumstances vote Democrat are less in tune with one another than you might otherwise assume, would have serious difficulties marching on an enemy stronghold while harried by enemy mobile units.

Sanders releasing his tomorrow, and I’d assume everyone else over the next few weeks.

Cue Fox and the GOP with shouts of rich elitists trying to take control of the country, as opposed to the common blue collar guy in charge now.

Here’s his speech. Pete himself starts at about 1:15.

Watched it live on YouTube, thought it was very Obama-esque in tone and style. Agreed pretty much with Mike Murphy, GOP consultant 👉

Buttigiege has a strong JFK vibe.

Buttigieg is the best speaker in the race. Beto, Kamala and Bernie are up there, too, but Mayor Pete has just as much presence. Love this guy. He can win.

(I may be getting a bit overexcited, but his speech has me all wound up and super optimistic)

So 10 minutes into his speech I’m thinking, “how could any sane person pick Trump over this guy?” Which leads me to wonder – is the old saw that “issues don’t matter, personality matters” backward? If abortion or tax cuts is your issue, you vote that way. Then maybe you retcon your own taste into thinking “oh I like Trump because he tells it like it is [bwa ha ha], he’s not a slick talker” etc.

It’s a bit more complex.

For Trump supporters, the fact that he’s such a piece of trash doesn’t matter.

Also, the fact that he’s failed to implement really any of the policy he campaigned on, with the GOP tax cut passing but failing to really benefit anyone beyond the ultra wealthy.

But you need to remember, her emails.

I thought this line was pretty great: “They cared if my M4 was locked and loaded, not whether I was going home to a girlfriend or a boyfriend.”

Buttigieg campaign announces $1m in new donations just since the announcement speech a few hours ago.

Buttmentum is thickening the air! Breathe it in!

Olivia Nuzzi in today’s New York Magazine does a nice job of summarizing the appeal:

He’s basically an X-Man.
