Presumably, because Warren is promising to build a nationwide network of federally run childcare centers.
I strongly prefer using markets where markets work. Markets don’t work in healthcare, but they should work fine in childcare. Childcare needs to be regulated, but I don’t believe the government needs to actually provide the service.

Yeah I agree. I don’t think one-size-fits-all childcare is the solution. A government-run solution just ends up being a gymnasium full of kids with not enough adults watching.
Give folks tax credits or grants to find a solution that works for them.
The problem with Warren’s program is it require yet another government bureaucracy to A. figure out if the child care providers meet the proper certification, provide child. care in areas where it is lacking and B. establish yet another agency to check the eligibility of the recipients. Which if it ends up being at 200% FPL makes it different than both ACA subsidies and SNAP.
The beauty of EITC is tied directly to filing your income tax and it requires EARNED income. Which eliminates the real problem of my early retirement online friends who game the system. They typically have a million or two in assets, some part time “business”, and managed to keep the adjusted gross income below the ACA levels to qualify for generous subsidies. I can easily see them doing the same thing with child care.

Good news, I think our government is building up experience in just that type of child care down in some of the southern states. Once they’re done working out the kinks with their migrant program – I mean pilot program – the rest of America’s children will reap the benefits!
For those of you who’s binary to ascii translation skills are bit rusty.
I’m honored to meet with such hard-working, true Americans.
As president, I will never stop fighting for you. Despite our differences we all want freedom, democracy, and electricity.

That guy looks too gay to be Pete.
I agree with the above posters who were saying that if it’s a refundable tax credit, then that’s a really good way to do it. That means people get the money even if they earn too little to owe any income tax.

It’s worse than you think - the guy in the devil costume is Randall Terry
They look like such idiots.

You need to call them & volunteer for his campaign STAT
He seems the embodiment of Parks and Rec.
In fact, somebody should put all his appearance to the Parks and Rec theme song. It’s already playing in my head when I see him.
And if you wanted to make Pete look better, I can’t think of a more obvious way to do that. People outside of his extremist politics hate Randall Terry. Extremists hate Randall Terry too. And so stuff like this ends up normalizing Buttigieg’s gayness more than anything the candidate could do himself.

A Buttigieg nomination would definitely bring out the homophobes, and I wonder how that would go for the GOP. Since 2016, we’ve learned there are a lot more racists than we thought, and the GOP has learned that openly embracing racism helps with their base. It did cost them support in other areas, though (and you could probably generalize it as the difference between suburbs and rural areas, or college-educated whites vs non-college whites).
I’m not sure homophobia will go over as well, though. I would guess most of the GOP base has zero people of color in their friends/ family groups. But nearly everyone knows or is related to at least one or two openly gay people. It’s harder to dismiss them as “the other” if the group includes people you’re close to.
The evangelical base, of course, will double down on homophobia. Maybe Trump will have a “The Westboro Baptist Church has some very fine people” moment. But I think he’ll find that even more damaging then Charlottesville.

I still can’t get over the lengths people will go to with condemning and demonizing homosexuality and then turn around and defend somebody who has a long history of adultery. One of these things the Bible is very explicit about not being okay and the other is a hell of a lot more debatable. SPOILER: Bible is very clearly not cool with adultery.
Mayor Pete paid him to do it, via a Russian bank account.

Also weird: a lot of that comes from evangelicals, who go to a church with a history based around protestant catechisms (such as Luther’s) that equate all sin equally. The god worshipped by the Protestant Church sees all sin as sin; there’s no “light treason” to be had. If you have decided someone is a sinner, that person is a sinner. Period. They’ve sinned, regardless of which sin they commit most.

And every person is a sinner, and we should be focused on repentance and forgiveness and not on the sin. Unless you’re gay.
And of course let’s not forget that our great Christian President said this regarding repentance: “I am not sure I have. I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I don’t think so,” he said. “I think if I do something wrong, I think, I just try and make it right. I don’t bring God into that picture. I don’t.”
