Asked what he thought about Beck during a junket appearance in support of the “Avatar” home-video release, Cameron said: “Glenn Beck is a fucking asshole. I’ve met him. He called me the anti-Christ and not about ‘Avatar.’ He hadn’t even seen ‘Avatar’ yet. I don’t know if he has seen it.”
“He’s dangerous because his ideas are poisonous,” Cameron answered. “I couldn’t believe when he was on CNN. I thought, what happened to CNN? Who is this guy? Who is this madman? And then of course he wound up on Fox News, which is where he belongs, I guess.”
Turning more serious, he added: “Anybody that is a global-warming denier at this point in time has got their head so deeply up their ass I’m not sure they could hear me.”
Beyond the obvious point that Camera probably works with a very different part of Fox than Fox News there’s the fact that a Hollywood guy insulting Beck is only likely to increase his ratings.
To give Murdoch his (very small) due, I’ve seen it read that he personally doesn’t care for Fox News much, but so long as it makes money hand over fist…
Fox is actually not that sensitive about it’s various employees/shows getting into tiffs - Family Guy calls not only Fox News, but other shows on Fox all the time.
Michael Moore said that in the end the media conglomerates don’t care about politics but rather the bottom line. As long as his documentaries made a shitload of money, the studios would distribute them, even if he attacks them directly or indirectly.
