can you grapple to the rocket and attach c4? :)
I haven’t done that mission yet either. I know there is DLC that is a lock on missile launcher.
Hahaha. In my game, I’d been exploring a lot before taking on missions, and I’d visited the rocket launch site before getting this mission and blown up all the SAMs. When I got the mission, I turned up, stole the attack helicopter that’s parked on one of the helipads and used it to take out the rockets as they launched. Job done.

This is weird. Really? How did you miss all the droppable aircraft on the black market, and all the airstrips dotting the land? Not to mention the military airbases?
Also, if you hold the “slow/decelerate” button, most airplanes can be slowed down to nearly strolling speed without stalling, which might help with aim.

I didn’t miss that they were there and I’ve flown helicopters around, but my fixed wing experience at this point is a short flight in a much slower plane then the attack jet that is available in the mission.

I’ll give it at try. It’s just a bit frustrating since I find the vehicle controls in the game a bit shaky to begin with and trying to line up a fast aircraft coming straight off a runway with a launching rocket apparently requires more airplane experience then I have at this point.
The combination of bad vehicle controls and timed missions is something I don’t like much, and that mission was incredibly frustrating. In the end I managed to complete the mission by crashing the jet plane into the rocket. Which made all the frustration well worth it :)

I am assuming you are doing this with mouse keyboard? If so, the only way I managed to deal with the annoying keyboard controls is to simply tap the direction keys rather than risk oversteer. Same thing with planes. I remember trying to taxi out one of the advanced jets from a hanger at one of the military bases, and the only was possible was to keep tapping forward and left at regular intervals to inch it out.
I did try the combination of mouse/keyboard/picking up controller for vehicles, but I just couldn’t manage it all.
Basically, only use the left stick when flying fixed wing craft. The planes are harder to fly than helo’s, but you can shoot down the rockets without too much trouble. Use the right mouse button to accelerate up to the rocket and shoot it down when you get close enough. Or use the helo’s. I honestly loved that mission. :-)
Does JC2 on PC permit joystick controls of aircraft? (Preferably without obliging you to use a joystick otherwise?) I imagine that’d be pretty sweet.

Yeah, the key (for me) to some of these is to go to the sites before being assigned a mission and softening the sites up first. I haven’t done this one, but this sounds like a great way to approach it - forget the plane, grab a chopper, hover close and take out the rockets as soon as they take off.

I finally managed to finish that mission last night, using Marcin’s idea of just slowing down and then having some luck as I scrambled to finish the thing off. I tried the helo thing, but the SAMs shot me down almost immediately. The problem was that my checkpoint save limited my options. I didn’t have a save before the mission to approach things differently without backtracking quite a bit. And the checkpoint save was weird, as it had nothing to do with my actual actions. It put me on the ground roughly in between the three launch towers with a minigun in my hands that I couldn’t drop unless I jumped into a nearby vehicle and then jumped out.
At any rate, I decided to just explore for awhile rather then do more missions. There are plenty of places I can go cause chaos at. ;-)
Heh, yeah, for the most part I find the missions to be the weakest part of the game. I much rather making my own fun. :)
I think you should have been able to soften the target up by blowing the SAM sites up as a free play target. Does the mission respawn them (I haven’t tried it)?

I wasn’t doing much free play prior to that mission, though I am now. I’ve discovered the joys of taking helicopter gunships and cruising around to cause havoc. I’ve already cleared a couple of military bases that will probably come back around on a later mission.
The thing that astounds me about this game is just how relatively large a world they’ve created here with such a diversity of terrain. It really makes me wonder what someone could do with this kind of environment in an RPG or some other kind of game. Consider how epic this world would be if you could only travel by foot or horse in a fantasy setting, for example.

I’m sure there was a link somewhere on the internet that showed relative world sizes in game for a number of open world games. Anyway, I believe Morrowind was actually much larger than Just Cause 2 if I am to believe what the internet tells me.
When I play Just Cause 2, I think to myself of how awesome it would be if it had a campaign styled like in Falcon 3.0 or 4.0 rather than the current missions that are dished up and spoon fed. Admittedly, I don’t mind some of the missions, but they feel too far removed from the overall game. Do the mission, generate chaos (whopdeefucking-doo) and some coin, and yet, the guards don’t give a crap when I walk past them in my most nonchalant way carrying a bundle of C4 and assault rifle. Don’t get me wrong, the current system of blowing shit up is fun. So to is getting away in my Cougar 600, belting down the highway with the scenery whizzing past in a blur, soldiers chasing me down… oh shi… truck! And I die in a massive fireball. And laugh at the same time because I can not do much else given how over the top it all is. But I wonder what it would be like to have more happening in the world around me. Perhaps that is too much of a financial risk from a development perspective though. Maybe it is best to keep it simple.
Missions though? Stuff em. In my current run through which is my OCD run through on the hardest difficulty, I’ve only done a small handful of stronghold missions and side missions, and haven’t touched the second (or third? the one after the casino) Agency mission yet. I’m spending most of my time currently doing the driving challenges and completing the various towns, so much so that I’ve nearly unlocked everything within the blackmarket, and as a result, I’ve basically unlocked every mission, just that they aren’t necessarily visible to me yet.
I think this is what you’re looking for.
Morrowind’s not there. Was Oblivion’s map really only 4 scale miles across? Geez.
is there a god mode in this game? i’m having the same problem with it that i have with red faction guerilla; i like everything about it except for fighting dudes. if i could go about my merry way scaling buildings and blowing things up without worrying about those boring enemies i’d enjoy the game a whole lot more.
Awesome image, kaosfere, I love how they mention how freaking huge Daggerfall is. :)

Yeah, I got my TES games mixed up. It was Daggerfall that was much larger by a long shot. And to think I’ve never played Daggerfall.
Dude, IMHO, Daggerfall is the best of them. Amazing game.

Hah, been playing for about 30 hours and I just noticed the triggered explosives. These are amazing.
