I’ve not played with the triggered explosives much, keep forgetting I have 'em, so thanks for reminding me about them.

:O

I have used them since the 2nd mission, lol.

I recommend getting the mod that ups them to nuclear levels. <3

I saw that mod while looking through the Just cause 2 mod site and am thinking of installing it. Does anyone have any other mod recommendations? A bunch didnt appeal such as extending the grapple’s range to 2km, maybe doubling it to 200m would be ok but too much more would feel a little too much like cheating myself I think.

Oh and I had a bit of a brainfreeze whilst trying to work out how to blow up the triggered explosives so FYI you throw them and then hold the same button down and he will pull up a detonator and set any planted explosives off.

I switch between keyboard and mouse on foot and 360 controller driving and flying. It’s seamless.

Can anyone speak to the performance of JC2 on middling computers? Mine is a 3-year-old Q6600 with a 8800GTS 512. I’ve been holding off for the 360 price to come into my impulse buy range, but I got a 360 Controller for Windows and the PC version is tempting. I might pick it up next time it shows up on Steam at a big discount, but if performance will be sketchy I’d rather just play it on the 360.

Damn mission 4 was fun , after I finished it , I went back and spent a good 30 minutes getting 100% on that military base.

My laptop is fine with the game. It has a 9800M GTX which is, if I recall, around par with the 8800 series in the desktops - though mine has higher VRAM (1 GB). I get some popup with some vegetation, but not enough to distract me from the actual game going on around me. But otherwise, grappling through thick vegetation, jumping off high cliff faces and running around dense cities, I don’t notice any performance hit.

Why not simply try the demo which is available via steam?

I have a Q6600 system with a 9600GT card and performance has been solid at 1920x1080 resolution, but I don’t think the frames are all that high. The test you can run at startup pegged it in the mid-30s, which is ok from my point of view. But some people have a problem with that being to low so it depends on the person. There are definately times when the framerate drops lower then that, however.

While I’ve been trying to free roam, I have done a few more faction missions and am now on the second tier of strongholds. Those are pretty disappointing in that unlike the first tier, the second tier are somewhat limited in what they give you for spawning vehicles. Neither of the two I’ve done so far have had any aircraft, for example. One has a nice armored car, though. Since I haven’t opened up the black market attack helicopter, I’m stuck with having to either travel to the one stronghold where one spawns and then fly it across the map or do without.

I absolutely call Shennanigans on Lotro being 30,000 sq km. No way.

And also I can’t believe that Burnout Paradise is that huge. It takes less than five minutes to go from one corner of the map to the other corner. Granted, those are really fast cars, but still. If you look at the equivalent area in Just Cause 2, you can’t even cover that same area in Just Cause 2 in a plane in five minutes.

Sorry if it has been covered or is obvious, but how the hell do I access the black market? Is there a map icon? does it only unlock after a certain number of plot missions? Was it mentioned by a contact at a time when I was stuck in a firefight and not paying enough attention to what I am being told?

I don’t remember if it unlocks after a few missions, but you use the beacon by selecting it with “4” if I remember correctly and place it on the ground using the mouse button.

I have no idea how you access it using a controller.

According to People On the Internet the fast JC2 planes go around 250mph, which might be topped in some car game. Unfamiliar with Burnout.

Sounds about right. They certainly go fast enough that I find their weapons systems to be all but useless to hit anything with.

I do wish I could lock on at long range and have them home in.

I just know that JC2 is big enough that when my son was playing for the first time this week, he thought he wasn’t moving in the chopper because it was taking so long to get from one base to an island that wasn’t very far away (or at least looked that way on the map!)

Choppers are slow, I seriously think Grapple Chuting to any undiscovered location is still the best method.

Trying to attack something with the attack jets is crazy hard with mouse/keyboard controls.

yeah I agree, I use my 360 controller for anything that requires a vehicle / chopper / jet ,rest of the time I use Mouse and KB.

I prefer using them solely as high-speed transportation. If anything is in need of destroying, I’ll just hop out and take care of it myself. I don’t have time to waste trying to strafe a communication tower with those jets. They move way too fast to make viable weapons platforms, but they are fantastic at getting from point A to point B.
