JC2 newbie here. It’s pretty addictive. However, I’ve been doing Faction missions for a bit and I’m not finding missions as much fun as just clearing locations and generally creating chaos. They’re much tougher. That’s fine. But I’ve finally hit one that’s a match in frustration for me.

SPOILER (like this thread isn’t riddled with them already).

There’s this Reaper mission where I’m supposed to hijack a limo, with a rather mouthy politician inside it, and take it to a location. The first time I guessed it was going in a different direction than it was and missed it. The second time was easy. I rode a bike off a cliff, parachuted down and then latched onto it.

But I’ve tried this thing several times. That limo just gets way too beat up. It’s first of all hard to drive it down those winding mountain roads at high speed. It’s constantly getting shot up. I have no good way to return fire. I could “stunt” myself onto the roof but, well, winding roads. I’ve tried following it too but I’m just not good enough to keep up without crashing into something before I catch up.

Even when I make it down to regular highway I just get mobbed and the limo, sooner or later, gets shot to bits or goes, unintentionally, four-wheeling and gets stuck in a ditch or between boulders. I had a long firefight at the end of one attempt as I was trying to use my grapple along with an abandoned light truck to “winch” it out of a ditch. I felt clever that it worked. Then I ended up driving right through an army base where the limo got 'sploded.

Getting to be at wits end with this stupid thing.

I think I just drove that one as fast as I could. No stunts, no cleverness. I guess I lucked out and didn’t have as much heat on me, or I lost them somehow.

I just don’t think there’s enough time for cleverness (like locating a chopper capable of airlift prior to mission) in that one.

The only time I was remotely clever in that mission was when I had no other choice…I was stuck in a ditch. Alright, I’ll try it again. But I’m not the most patient person when it comes to redoing missions. But, it wouldn’t be the first time I was ready to ditch a game due to frustration only to get the hang of it later on (Dragon Age I’m looking at you).

Edit: Sure enough. This time I made it. I just hauled ass but was very careful to keep an eye on the map. Seems I got so caught up in the chase I made some bad turns and decisions. There’s one intersection where it’s kind of hard to tell which way to go because a town icon covers it up (which I could have toggled off but it didn’t occur to me). It was almost easy this time.

I’ll point out that none of the faction missions is required to finish the game. If you’re not digging that one, pass it up. There’s lots of other things to do to generate chaos.

Yeah, I screwed that limo mission up once, then the second time I just resolved to drive cautiously. Turns out the jeep-driving fools behind you are such maniacs they will drive merrily off the road all around you while you just keep on keepin’ on. I mean, I drove as fast as was safe, and I watched the map religiously to avoid wrong turns, but it wasn’t really as tough as all that.

For when driving on roads is important, you guys know you can set a waypoint on your map that will make driving arrows pop up on roads, a la Red Faction: Guerrilla? Hover your cursor over the full screen map and press 1 on the PC or X on the 360 (and equivalent on PS3).

Yeah, I always set a waypoint. I like the virtual arrows that appear on the road itself.

Oh, that’s what those are. Yeah, I set waypoints but I didn’t know it did more than just the directional arrow and the indicator. I thought those might have been indicators for a race or something (which didn’t make much sense as I wasn’t racing).

I failed that mission about three times because each time I tried to drive down the road to intercept the limo. I could never quite catch it. Fourth time, I said to myself “fuck this” and just drove off the cliff with the bike, opened the parachute and grappled onto the limo roof. It’s almost as though the developers wanted you to break the rules as much as possible, that’s one reason I love it - if I can’t do a mission, think outside the box for ways around the mission design.

If it’s the mission I’m thinking of, isn’t there a ramp right there that you can fly off of in the direction the limo is heading? I mean, I did that to begin with and just chuted down to the limo.

Perhaps this should be a new thread (Just Cause 3 ideas?) but I’ll post here:

Things Just Cause 2 needs to have to make it even more incredilicious:

  1. Trains. Trains you can sabotage in many fun ways. Some trains carrying fuel cars, some trains carrying troops, etc.

  2. Truck carrying fuel tanks. Blowing them up would be a blast (literally) but you could also hijack one, drive it to a strategic spot, then blow it up at just the right time. ;)

How about planes and choppers with better (more natural feeling) controls, and a camera that doesn’t lean every time I turn a motorcycle?

Fairly minor improvements, but I’d quite love to see them.

Those things should be patched into the existing game, I think.

Yeah, I want:

  1. Rudder control for my planes
  2. Crackdown 1-style co-op.

Give me those and new crap to blow up, and I’m happy.

I like the camera that leans when I lean on motorcycles. Makes motorcycle riding much more thrilling. The other way would make it easier to control, but less exciting.

I want binoculars.

A jetpack. Tie it into the parachute. Jetpack up, then activate the parachute and off you go. This actually wouldn’t help anything, but I love jetpacks, so.

I would also be all right with a flying car or hoverboard or other kitschy sci-fi stuff.

More wacky weapons like they’re doing with the DLC – I like going in with dual sawed-off shotguns, but I also like giant air cannons.

For the next game? I’d like to see our boy cut loose in the land of Terry Gilliam’s Brazil.

Erm. You realize the dual jets are pretty much this? You can jet at a very high angle indeed.

But can you take off from a standing start with the jets? I thought they only existed when your chute was deployed.
