Not to disparage Just Cause 2 at all, but man I will never understand why big, dumb, blow-uppy action movies based on video games get made, but original scripts for big, dumb, blow-uppy action movies don’t.
What exactly needs to be “optioned” here? The right to use an unlimited parachute backpack?
You just spoiled the game for me. Thanks! :P

Finally got around to playing the demo on my new PC, wow I can’t believe what I missed. Now I’m really kicking myself for not jumping on this on the last steam sale. Stupid question, for hooking up a 360 controller to my computer do I just need a USB cable and it will just download the drivers or do I need to do anything else?
If you’re wireless, you’ll need one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2. Not sure of the options for wired controllers.
And yeah, I keep coming back to this game again and again and it never gets old.

If it’s already wired then yeah, you just plug it in.
When was the last time you watched Commando?

The “charge and play” cable that you might have on your 360 isn’t a USB cable. It just charges the battery.
You can’t connect a wireless 360 controller to a PC without buying a special USB wireless dongle thing that was posted earlier in the thread.
Wired 360 controllers work fine though.

The difference between a movie called “Just Cause” and a movie called “Gratuitous Action Flick” is that 2,000,000 geeks have already bought something called “Just Cause” and most of them liked it. They will associate your movie with that previous pleasant experience. That instant audience recognition is really really fucking expensive to get any other way.

Well I may have to understand it, but I don’t have to like it!
So I’m an hour or so into the game and tried my first mission taking over a compound for a gang…and got my ass handed to me repeatedly. I went back a bit to my only saved point and now am gonna get used to the controls first before I do anything like that again. Still loving the game though, but yeah, I still suck at console games. ;)

Yeah, I get that syndrome when I swap back and forth between mouse+keyboard and console controllers. Good first half hour is spent on WTF does this button do AGAIN? until I retrain my muscle memory.
Some games never get really comfortable, but they’re usually brawlers/platformers when there’s a lot of disparate actions. Shooters/open worlders fortunately tend to similar schemes for their shootey/drivey.
Too true, I’m also fairly new to console games in general, so it’s a big step sideways for me.

Brian, right there with you on the newbieness in consoles. My first few hours with JC2 made me feel like I’d never “get it” or be able to enjoy the game. But now I’m zipping around cities like Spiderman and reeking havoc and taking names. I still suck at anything that requires driving fast and accurately and shooting while doing that.
I’d recommend just wandering and being the rogue guerrilla until you build up some skills and get comfortable with the weapons and systems (and learn how to use the grapple hook to get you out of just about any bad situation.)

Console gaming was like typing to me… Just as one day I suddenly realized that I was touch-typing, one day I was playing a 360 shooter and realized I was just moving my character wherever I wanted him to go, rather than consciously struggling with the controller. It just gets easy with time.
Thanks for the encouragement guys. :-)
I just played some more of this (two hours in now) and had a blast ripping apart a military harbor with a stolen helicopter, jumping out of said stolen helicopter when it was about to get totaled, then boating back to the mainland to a small city to pull down a big statue with a fire truck, only to spend the next hour playing cat and mouse with the cops and limited ammo. Tons of freaking fun. :)

I still play this occasionally, and I often set myself little challenges. For example, when I am in a helicopter, I never fire the weapons at other aerial vehicles. Instead, I try and get any that attack me to shoot each other down by grappling between them like a demented trapeze artist. Then I nick the winner.
