Fascinating thought, Denny.

The game just does what it does so well. For me, it is just a really cool big open world in which I can do just about anything I want to do, in any way I want to do it. I can create my own “story.” Then I can jump into any of the story lines for the various factions if I so choose.

I got this on a steam sale a while back only to find to my dismay that it requires DX10. My PC is still XP. Same thing happened with that game that the 3D mark people put out. When I build my new PC I’ll have an instant larger backlog to work on.

Exactly, the developers really seem to get what a perfect sandbox game is.

“Here’s a big world with tons of stuff to do and blow up. Here are a ton of toys to do and blow up said stuff. We’ll keep the story, physics and the rules very, very light. Have fun!”

“Wait…that’s it?”

“Yup! Now go!”

That happened to me too. My reaction, though, was to immediately buy another 4 gigs of RAM along with Windows 7.

Worth every penny.

i loved finding the island from lost- it was like :O

Yep. I spent hours just wreaking havoc in the big cities last time I played. Then headed our in a chopper to play with Bolo and help her out some. On the way, I dropped down to explore a small island I had not seen before. Found a speedboat, and on my way back to the mainland decided to see how many Panau patrol boats I could take out, mainly getting close and grapple hooking the crew into the water, and took over a VERY cool Panau boat that way. Eventually a chopper came after me, successfully boarded and took over the chopper then used it to hunt down a few more patrol boats before turning back towards Bolo. Landed and talked to her and did her mission, then headed into the mountains.

I’ve only got about a 30% completion and I am just having a blast.

It’s interesting to compare RDR and JC2, even though they are completely different games in design and intent. RDR was very story driven with the free world part being a bit of an add-on. Yeah, I could hunt and pick flowers, and I enjoyed just riding around the country, but the actual encounters I ran into when off the story line were extremely scripted and became very repetitive. No doubt I really enjoyed the game, but when the story ended I felt it was “over” and there was no drive to continue playing. But it did what it did very well.

JC2 is all about giving you a HUGE world in which you are free to explore anywhere you want to explore at any time. And a lot of ways to do a lot of cool stuff, mainly of course destruction - that is your role as a bad-ass mercenary in a country run by bad people. And the more you play, the more you come up with cool new ways to do things. There are stories, and they are enjoyable, but I can spend an entire game session just wandering around and discovering and creating my own brand of havoc.

Great game.

I finally met Bolo by the way. LOVE the way she talks.

I’m trying to get the Wrecking Ball achievement. No real reason but seemed like a relatively easy thing.

It’s not. Any tips? I’ve tried the helicopter + car + group of thugs, tried a tank + blown up car + roadblock groupings, and I’m about to try the ultimate cheese of:

a) park car next to group
b) get another car, line it up behind first one
c) tether the two together
d) get in the car in the back and bump the front one so it runs over a thug.

Nothing else seems to be working. I even get kills with the helicopter method (I can see the ticker) but not wrecking ball kills. ARGH.

(Trying for 100% on this one, just like I did with the first game) :D

Hmmm. Try pulling the head off of a statue with a vehicle and then driving around doing damage with that.

THAT…is a fantastic idea…I’m gonna try that ASAP…

Or helicopter + statue head = hilarity.

Even with the head of a statue, it’s not easy to get wrecking ball kills. That was definitely the only achievement in the game that I had to go out of my way to get. But it was the only achievement I didn’t have, so I thought it was worth it. I’m not normally a completionist, but when you have just one thing left undone, it nags at you.

I finally got it done with a helicopter + airlifted jeep.

Yeah, jeep + statue head was the first thing I tried. Invariably every single thug gets out of its way. :/

Well, back to the drawing board I guess.

Vista/7 only games annoy the pants off me. There are too few to affect the overall OS-changing arithmetic, but some of them are desirable… But it smacks of a churlish OS marketing tactic.

EDIT: Or whatever, it just pisses me off.

It’s not though. It’s also 360 and PS3.

/runs

I was pissed at first that the demo didn’t support xp, but after doing some research and then trying windows 7 first hand I upgraded and have been very happy ever since.

I wish more games would actually take advantage of the features like this one obviously does.

It’s gorgeous, it runs amazingly well and loads extremely fast.

After playing it, I was very impressed that they didn’t just phone in a shitty port like many cross platform games these days are guilty of.

Jesus. I’ve never seen a friendly force in the entire game except when I’m leaving a location, and now I can’t line up any kill shots without 3 “allies” showing up and fucking everything up. And on top of that, it seems that finishing the game means everything goes to 11 the moment I even so much as LOOK at a guard.

I can see this is going to be a controller flinging experience.

That or I’ll start a game on easy just for this achievement.

I’m quite happy with W7 I’m just too lazy/cheap to relish switching over my 100% adequate desktop install of XP. If anything a game jostling me to do so is probably to my own benefit but I resents what I resents.

3 hours, 2 wrecking balls. And about 10 random dudes that didn’t register and/or failed to die when hit. Oh, and 4 colonel groupings that didn’t register.

… but with 2 down, I’m going to get the remaining 3 if it kills me :P

Oh thank bob, the nightmare is over. I searched for a few more solutions and finally found one that worked (use the huge truck and a plane at a large military airport, and for some reason 20 guys or so pour out).
