Actually I didn’t assume. It was a joke, which you took in the most aspie fashion possible. Perhaps I should have also inquired whether a pony was kept in the hut.

Well I apologise then, it certainly didn’t feel funny to me, difficult to find much humour when you have lost your job you know. maybe a ;) would have helped :D
There is no humor when you’ve lost your job.

Well I have just received an update from a company, they have asked me in for an interview on Wednesday at 10.30am gmt and to meet with the managing director of the company.
Fingers crossed it may lead to something but it may be just a friendly chat. Document management services is not a massive industry so having experiene in it is a benefit as a lot of people brought in come from outside the industry. It also depends on what level they are interested in.
Fingers crossed here as well. Good luck
Knock em dead! Crossing all my fingers and toes so you better get the job because this hurts!
Company called and wants to meet with me tomorrow for a dinner interview. I’ve never had one of those so I have no idea what to expect. This is a smallish company that is in the same industry as my family business was. To be honest, I was hoping to leave that behind, but I certainly am not in a position to turn anything down! I know the woman that owns the business very vaguely because we were in the same industry and only 25 miles apart. I even threw her some clients that I couldn’t service over the years, not a lot but several. But what I know of her is she is an incredibly demanding person to work for. I had employees come work for me after working for her swearing they would never so much as look at her again. Now they were the lowest rungs on the corporate ladder, so I have no idea what it would be like to work under her on a management level, but I’m guessing it won’t be a feel good place every day. Regardless, it’s a free meal so I’ll see what happens. Tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
Dinner interview is a very, very good sign! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you get an offer before you leave the table. Just make sure you use the proper silverware. :)

Sounds good, I have worked for a few awful people but it is managable especially when needs must and if you get in at a higher level your skills can help change that or introduce your type of working style.
Can’t see her wasting time on meal if she isn’t really interested, good luck.
Fantastic! Order a steak! :)
So glad to read the recent spate of good news in this thread. Good luck, all :)
On a (hopefully) unrelated note, our Director and other high-ups are meeting with a strategic planning team for the 2nd of 3 times today. Here’s to hoping that their “keep the organization from going bankrupt in six months” suggestions don’t include “fire everyone below Assistant Director level.”

Just got back from my friendly chat. It went really well, ended up staying for 2.5 hours. They are very keen and said someone with my specific skill set doesnt come along often. They didnt seem phased about my salary or costs and said they will come back to me by Tuesday/ Wednesday with some form of offer after speaking to the board.
That’s what you want to hear! Good work.
The last time I had a job interview run an hour over allotted time, my only mistake was accepting the subsequent job offer too quickly and not negotiating for more money. So I’d say that’s a very encouraging sign!

I will be unemployed starting tomorrow at 0930. Don’t have another job lined up yet. Feels somewhat creepy.
I know the feeling! Hopefully you won’t get used to it. :)
Good luck!
I thought your plan was to go back to the railroad?
Well, that’s it I guess. There was never a job here. The owner was just wanting information about my business so she would know how to defend herself if Louisiana came after her. No opportunity here at all. When she just kept probing for information that really was none of her business, I pretty much was done. I asked her if she had an opening as I had made it pretty clear that gaining employment was my 100% focus. No, there were no openings in the management staff. She then asked if I would kindly show her all my correspondence with my lawyers over the past 3 years trying to defend myself and my business from the State. After hearing enough, I told her she was going to have to do her own research and hire her own lawyers, but I’d be happy to be a consultant for her at an appropriate rate. I then excused myself, and walked out leaving her with her mouth open.
So I guess that’s it. There’s nothing else. Unemployment runs out I believe next week. I have to vacate the house at midnight the 30th and as of right now, I only have my car to go to. No other company has even slightly expressed interest. So I am thinking I’m done. I guess there just isn’t a place for me out there. And to top it off, when I get home from the wonderful “interview”, my wife is busy packing up her stuff so she can move out this weekend. She has taken some serious liberties of what she gets to take with her. And the cherry on the top? My wife accused me of having an affair. Her damning evidence? I bought a $8 pack of underwear. My old underwear was getting holes and coming apart, so I splurged and got some underwear at Target. Of course everyone that buys $8 of underwear is having an affair. I would have actually laughed except that is exactly what my life is like right now.
So I’ll be around periodically from time to time until the 30th. After that, I just won’t have the ability. Thanks for all your good wishes and thoughts. I really appreciate them. Sorry they were wasted, but I tried. Lord knows I fucking tried. This is a wonderful community and I have enjoyed my time here immensely.
Thanks everyone!
