Yeah… I really need to get my butt into gear and send out job applications now, before time catches up with me. Luckily in Germany we do have decent unemployment benefits & if all else fails I can carry on with my current position on a part time basis of 5 days a month…(which would at least cover my rent)

That is fantastic news, divorced! Yeah, here’s hoping you can find a place. Any people around you can crash with until your first couple paychecks, if it comes to it? I’d imagine some of your former employees would be grateful if you can bring them in to this other company.

Yeah, that time definitely flies by, Cormac. It’s nice to have the part time option if you need it.

Thumbs up!

Good work man! I’m very pleased for you. I know it’s not over yet, but this is good news. Don’t forget to celebrate.

Good news, divorced! Here’s hoping things keep moving in the right direction!

Great news, divorced. Is the pay enough to make payments where you live? It could be worth approaching the bank and telling them, hey, I just got a job, can I get an extension of this much time to get my first checks, etc. The bank would rather you pay them even if late vs. going through the hassle of foreclosure, finding a new buyer, etc.

Great news, Divorced. But I don’t understand why you need to vacate by July 1st. Sell your stuff and get ready to leave on a moment’s notice, sure. But don’t leave until the cops come knocking at your door.

A few years ago during the worst of the depression there were plenty of stories of people going over two years without paying their mortgages. The banks won’t wait two years, now, of course, but surely they’ll wait a little.

Glad to see some much needed positive developmemts, divorced! Where do you live, anyway?

I was thinking the same thing. You should see if some free legal aid is available for a consultation. You may be able to stall them awhile.

Divorced, the bank wants your money, not an empty house they have to take care of and try to sell.

My wife just got a full-time job offer in her field after several years of unemployment or part-time work. I could tell the lack of opportunities were effecting her feelings of self worth and her contributions to the family.

Congratulations on the offer and good luck to the rest of the job seekers

Great news divorced. Here’s hoping it all goes uphill from here.

Yes, divorced, if that July 1st date is on an eviction or foreclosure notice, that does NOT mean you should vacate the house on that date. Make them go through the legal eviction/foreclosure process and, as the above posts note, wait until the sheriff shows up with a vacate order in hand before you actually leave. This may buy you the time you need to get living arrangements settled.

Wooooooooohooooo!!

Avoiding Foreclosure:

That includes a link titled “assistance for veterans with delinquent mortgage loans.”

From http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/the-louisiana-home-protection-act-more-information-homeowners-foreclosure.html

The Louisiana Home Protection Act

Recently, the Louisiana legislature passed, and the governor signed into law Act No. 339, also referred to as the Louisiana Home Protection Act. This new law amends existing foreclosure law to add more protections for homeowners in foreclosure.
60 Days Notice

Under the new law, the foreclosure sale date cannot be earlier than 60 days after the court signs the order allowing the sale.
Information in Foreclosure Sale Notice

When the sheriff serves notice of the sale date on the homeowner in a residential foreclosure, the notice must include specific language about the homeowner’s rights and available assistance, including that:

the sale date may change and that the borrower can get information about this from the sheriff’s office
the homeowner may be able to avoid foreclosure by contacting the lender and entering into a loss mitigation agreement
the homeowner may be able to avoid foreclosure by reinstating the loan (bringing the account current and paying certain costs and fees), and

housing counseling services are available free of charge through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Louisiana Housing Corporation.

Effective Date of the Louisiana Home Protection Act

The Act went into effect on August 1, 2013, so it applies to foreclosures filed on or after that date.

Note the part where it shows where you can get free help.

Looking in searches, it appears they cannot do the foreclosure sale for 60 days after the official foreclosure, and only at that point can they force you to leave the house.

And this is a very good guide to your options:

You have options! Good luck.

Great news divorced! Best of luck turning things around. All my positive thoughts go out to you!

JeffL, you rock! That is some great advice and research. Post like yours are why I love QT3.

Thanks all. I mean, it was not only the 11th hour, but almost the 59th minute of the 11th hour. As far as the house goes, I found a buyer who essentially is willing to pick up where I left off. That’s an oversimplification of course, but the bank is okay and my credit won’t take too much of a hit. I have a lot of wonderful memories here, but what’s gotta be done is what’s gotta be done. This afternoon will be spent looking for a small apartment since it’s now just me. I have a guy interested in my couch and coming to look at it this evening. I’m hoping he really likes it.

Fuck yeah! You dodged that bullet because you didn’t give up, so bully for you, man. Sometimes it makes sense to divest of the old and start over fresh. I wish you luck! Hopefully you will get to keep the PC, the consoles, and any pr0n stashes you may or may not have. :)

Great news, divorced! We’re all pulling for you!

I have an interview on Friday with the Ops Director to discuss stuff. He said it’s pretty informal on Fridays so sounds pretty good. Hopefully discuss a relevant position or role.

Good luck, Reemul!
