As someone who hasn’t been to Duna in over a year (the 1.0 update hurt us heavy-top crafters much ;), and can’t design anything but the ugliest ships, let me put my jaw back in place.
In your album, that eclipse photo is just wonderful!

HarvesteR is no longer the lead dev for KSP.
Fozzle, that album is downright inspiring. I haven’t been to Duna in a while either. Your post makes me eager to return.
One question: are you using an environmental mod? Or is that stock Duna?
Is the departure of HarvesteR any grounds for concern?
He says it’s not, but who knows?
It is definitely not stock (nor is Kerbin). It was probably more of a rhetorical question, but I knew the less interesting part of the answer and couldn’t shut up :D
Unless Felipe intends to take away the software and shut it down and track it down on my hard drive, I egotisctically don’t feel any concern, and just want to thank him for the 5 years of his life he spent on such a brilliant piece of computerized space.
It is funny, I only found out who he was less than a week ago, and now he has gone and quit. I don’t know enough to judge what impact it will have. But echo your thoughts in thanking him for doing a such fantastically orginally piece of software.
I’m using Stock Visual Enhancements, which includes EVE, and some configs and textures I believe. I looks really nice, and just needed to use ckan to get it. I’m also using real plumes, engine lighting, and distant objects for more beautification goodness.
Cool. I just started using SVE myself, along with EVE, and I love the look of Kerbin. Haven’t tried those other environmental mods you mentioned.
And yes, hat’s off to Felipe for a really imaginative game. KSP has given me hundreds of hours of entertainment and education. It’s one of the best games I’ve ever played.
Distant Objects is an acquired taste (it makes space look dark, figures!), but if you get into it, it will turn your morning sci-fi series into 2001.
Added bonus, amongst other things, is it makes telescope projects feasible (the planets are always rendered, so you can actually look at them, although the game obviously wasn’t designed for this and it requires tons of fiddling with the controls to get a look at something as massive as Jool).
When I get home I will post my whole list of mods that I think will be my favorite batch. What I like in mods:
[ul]
[li]Not too hard, but harder then vanilla.[/li][li]I don’t like adding a bunch of parts that do the same thing as parts already in game.[/li][li]Bigger tech tree, and also more science.[/li][li]Bring the pretty.[/li][li]Added fun stuff to do in space, on planets, and in orbit.[/li][li]Give Kerbals the same advantages of our astronauts. i.e. numbers, cameras, guidance, etc.[/li][li]Some tedium removal.[/li][/ul]
There was a concern I read that I did not write about.n but there are were several unhappy people who worked for squad. Several European members worked 40 hour weeks for a whole year and got paid Mexican minimum wage which is a pittance and unlivable in a euro nation. I think harvestor leaving is sadly part of this, where squad really used up the talent and kept the bulk of the money to itself. That makes 5 people in the past month or two who left or quit.
Mexican minimum wages for a programmer, WTF. That’s crazy I got to believe sales of KSP have been pretty damn good, and its finally generating some good c
cashflow. It is really sad when game programmers don’t beneifit financially from a hit product.
I debated for quite some time whether I would repost the article here as it really deflated my feelings for the game. The game is still great but to know they took extreme advantage of people while reaping great profit makes me sick. Don’t read unless you want to be depressed
‘Welcome to Squad; we pay you like shit, then fire you when your work is finished so we can just take it over,’ former media director PDtv says of $2,400 annual salary
“After running out of usefulness and competing the brunt of the work we were all fired,” he explained.
Well, yeah. I’m not sure what was supposed to happen. If you are of no use and the job is mostly complete, they are supposed to keep you around and pay you for what?
I’m assuming by ‘competing’ he meant ‘completing’.
The site where the article is linked seems down here.
Not to defend that kind of practices but, from what I’ve read here, and to add to the comment above errr… Before signing for a job, read the contract maybe, and don’t put your signature on the paper if you do not agree with the wage and/or conditions? Or maybe that’s too much common sense for the new technologies.
Yeah I tried to feel upset about that stuff too, but then came to the same conclusion that a lot of others seem to be. No one forced these people to accept that little money for their work. A gun was not pointed at them. They let their enthusiasm for the project cloud their judgement. So Jeff, you can stop trying to paint Squad as some kind of sweatshop or something. Besides, I don’t know a single person that has left that didn’t end up at a bigger and better job because of it. These people knew what they were getting into, got to work on a cool project while being paid very little, and have parlayed that into something better. Sounds like a happy ending to me.
Cool thanks ----edit----- oh weird those odd exclamation points were supposed to be iPad smiley faces. So I try again
Cool thanks! :) :)
New patch 1.1.3 is out! Both Steam and GOG have it available for download. Supposedly fixes tons of bugs in 1.1.2; we shall see…
Mod authors are frantically putting out new versions; though it’s reported that many work as is, many don’t, so YMMV.
PS4 version just launched and has anyone tried it? I’m curious if it’s a buggy mess and how it works using a controller interface.
$40 seems a tad high for the game, but I like the concept and I’m kinda bored with shooters and action games these days.
Anyone know if they’re pushing the controller interface back to PC?
