I love Transfer Window planner, but it hasn’t been updated for 1.7 yet.
I can supply you guys with a whole list of must have mods if you are going in with both feet… Just let me know =)

Unfortunately most of them have not been updated because I think everyone is holding off until the DLC is launched this month.

May 30th… two more weeks!

Argghhh too long! I am waiting to play again til it comes out.

I will be in a moving truck somewhere in the American southwest…

So I started a new career game, without any mods. (I’ll probably add MechJeb at some point).
I like that they’ve add much of the important funtionality of MechJeb and Kerbal engineers. Things like per stage DeltaV and TWR of each stage. The graphics look better on the new parts also.

But for the life me I don’t see where you unlock the robots and the new surface science experiments.
Are they not available in career mode?

Did you buy the DLC?

No, I didn’t buy it cause I’m an early owner of Kerbal so it free. Very generous of Squad.
It’s clearly installed. It sounds like much of the surface content is only found on the surface of Mun, Minimus, and the other planets. But for instance, the wiki says, for example, can get this part the Go-Ob ED monitor if you research miniaturization, but I’m not seeing listed on in R&D lab.

I haven’t tried yet because I was a bit disheartened that I had to start a new career (I had just started one last month to get a head start on a mod free game…) Then I got sidetracked by Diablo 3 of all things. I plan to give it a go this weekend. Please let us know if you figure out how to unlock the stuff!

Well now I feel really foolish. I thought for sure I bought the game early enough to qualify for for the free. It turns out it wasn’t until Dec 14. I was confused because when Making History came out there were a number of new scenarios, which I thought was the new content, but I guess everybody got them. There were enough new changes that I thought that was the DLC, not the free updates.

Anyway, the reason I did not see the new content was because I hadn’t bought the DLC… (Faceplant!) I quickly remedy that. Honestly, I was feeling guilty that I had only given Squad $20 or so for this game that given me so much pleasure.

The good news is that my Go-Ob monitor showed up with my career started in 1.7 but without the DLC. Now I am anxious to try it out.

It’s been a long time since I played and I need help! I used to run 60 mods, but apparently a lot aren’t needed any more with all the changes.

Can anyone recommend a list of “must have mods” that incorporates the latest DLC and patch changes?

So, The only mod I feel like I “need” is Astrogater that are currently compatible and listed in CKAN. I believe you can also easily install mods in Twitch now too, but it feels a bit jenky so I still use CKAN. I also use [x] Science! to keep me from having to lookup what experiments I still need to do. The mod I miss the most is actually Docking Port Alignment Indicator, because docking in vanilla still blows I think. Astrogater provides just enough info to know when planetary windows are coming up, and keeps me from needing to go to the website to calculate windows. The Vanilla game is actually fun, loads pretty fast now and has most of what you need to play without feeling like you are missing out on much.

CKAN is reliable now? In had stopped playing when it had only been around for ~6 months and it was still iffy.

Is Engineer redux, or whatever it was called still needed?

I had to unload all my mods with the new expansion. The game is extremely speedy to load and play now.

You don’t really need mechjeb or Engineer anymore. most of the important information is now in the standard interface! You have Deltav numbers in the VAB, and you have Ap/Pa info in another window, so you are pretty set.

My experience when I’ve dipped my toes back in is that you only need mods (if you want them) that modify the gameplay–extra missions, realism, etc–or visuals–scatterer and whatever is the current version of EVE. The helper mods are nearly obsolete, though I still find a place for docking port alignment indicator, KAC and Transfer Window Planner (all of which still work even though they haven’t been updated recently.)

Awesome. That’s the kind of information I was wondering about!

Pretty much for this reason, I had one of my guys whip up this guide so I could get some guidance on how to get back in to the game myself:

I’ve been using CKAN myself to manage my mods and I’ve found it to work pretty well - it has this feature where you can see what mods have recently become become compatible with the version you’re running, which is neat.

Excellent. Thank you!

I think Chaterer should be listed there… It’s one of those mods I tend to put in even though all it adds is flavor =)

I remember that one. Yes it is awesome!

Are there any mods that add more plant life and “stuff” to the planets and make the ground look better on Kerbin?
