“ProbesBeforeCrew” offends me on deep, instinctual level as a true Kerbal. What kind of hysterical prude would send dumb machinery up first on untested, highly dangerous, critically instable equipment, instead of a proud and patriotic Kerbal astronaut?
Ghastly unpatriotism!
This is the rover I’ve used since the beginning of the game - adding on science experiments as I get them.
Finally got some proper rover wheels, and have upgraded my Science Rover to this thing. It’s a lot slower but much easier to control.
Hmmm I added some solar panels and changed toe capsule orientation and now I can’t go forward or backwards. My wheels rotate to turn but I can’t go anywhere. Any ideas?

It’s probably the changing of the capsule orientation that’s screwed things up for you. Easiest thing to do is to place a docking port in what you consider the “forward” direction, then right click the docking port and choose “Control from here”. After that you should be good.
Best play Major Tom during your missions then. :)
Thanks for the reply. I didn’t know about the fund rewards slider, that should help a lot. I’ll also download CKAN.
I also want to hear about Making History as it’s on sale right now. Ah, heck maybe I should just get it, it’s summer and they deserve a beer.

Well, I kind of like it with career because it mirrors the development of human space flight, in which machines went first (and, of course, long after).
I just picked up playing history. I dabble with a few of the historical missions but none really piqued my interest. Maybe I’ll try the Apollo one.
On the other hand, I love career mode. I very much enjoy the challenge of trying to test a part in a weird speed and altitude combination.
I found that it was too easy to make money on normal and bit too difficult on Hard level. So I tweaked hard mode from 60% fund to 70%. That gives enough money if I do a tourism trip or two, to fly missions, but poor enough that I’m always struggling to find enough money to upgrade facilities.

I’ll probably try the Making History missions after I get tired of career with the stock planets and THEN get tired of sandbox with the Outer Planets mod which I just discovered exists but can’t bring myself to install quite yet.
Yes, it is. It’s also considered one of the best covers of all time.
Yes grab it! Even if you don’t like the missions, you’ll have all the new parts it adds in career mode.

I’m really enjoying the Probes Before Crew playthrough. Just sent a probe to flyby the Mun. The amount of funds and science you get is calibrated pretty well to just keep you going even with the parts test and survey contracts disabled. I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed BTSM or any of the other career mods. I also used to be a big fan of ContractConfigurator, with the anomalies contract pack (contracts to visit all of the anomalies in the solar system–a really nice grand tour) and the mountains contract pack (contracts to visit the highest spot on every body.) It was nice to have some actual interesting locations to try to visit on those planets. I may add those packs to my playthrough though I’m not sure they still work.

Oh my gosh, I’m away for a week andthe KSP topic blows up! LOL congrats @jpinard on your Mun landing!

I’ve landed on the Mun many times, but it’s always great, and my first PBC probe landing was fun. I left the booster in a high elliptical munar orbit with a relay antenna on it for later use.
Those lander legs are a little short because the reaction wheel was a late addition that I meant put on the booster, not on the lander, but still had no problem bringing the ship down. Kind of fun to do it with only SAS and no autopilot.
What graphic mods are you using? Pretty!
Also would you post screenshot of your full ship in the VAB?

I’m using EVE + SVE with scatterer. None of those are specifically compiled against the latest version of KSP, but those links are to the most recent versions of the mods and they all work with 1.7.x
Oh, and sure. Give me a few minutes to grab a screenshot of the vessel.
