Looks like Armikrogisn’t going to make it. The last few updates seem chock full of wishful thinking. Like the “if you contact 2 friends…” so-called Facebook “blitz.”

As much as I’d like to separate the art from the artist, I can’t for Kickstarter since it is directly funding the artist.
Yeah, I almost wish I had never heard of his comments to begin with - I’m a huge fan of The Neverhood and Skullmonkeys, would love to contribute for a new game with that kind of craziness. But I don’t think I can get behind TenNapel anymore.
Skimmed the rules for Fallen and realize I must back this game immediately!
I had no idea what you were talking about, so I looked it up. Yarg. It was worse than anything I could have imagined. I encountered some of the most small-minded, hateful political crap I’ve ever seen. I backed out of my Armikrog pledge.
Wow. That guy is a shithead.
I know this is awful, but I’m not going to click on that link simply so I can continue to enjoy the copy of Creature Tech on my shelf. But whatever it says is probably where I saw him headed a few years ago after I bought his Earthboy Jacobus, so I haven’t kept up with him since.

I hadn’t seen that before. I thought everyone was still up in arms over this.
Greatly enjoyed The Neverhood, but completely, totally unaware of any of this. Cannot, in good conscience, support this project. Pledge canceled.
Apologies for even bringing it up originally.
Got an email from Reaper Minis saying my Bones figures are on the way. All 481 of them. I am a crazy person.
EDIT: in trying to get an accurate count on how many figures are in a set (I splurged on 2x Vampire), I ran across some eBay auctions for the same. People are apparently willing to pay nearly 2x the Kickstarter price for these, apparently.
Feels somehow slimy to turn around and sell 'em unopened.
Thanks. Canceled my small pledge.
At first I thought you were referring to Mike Nelson, who’s also involved with this and also a bit of a knuckle-dragger. After reading that column, I guess they’re kindred spirits.
I think that if someone is as toxic as TenNapel appears to be, it would be impossible to work with him if you weren’t similarly benighted. Imagine trying to work on a project with Ann Coulter. That’s whom the rant in question reminded me of most.
Yeah, I didn’t want to link to any of it but I guess maybe I should have in the interests of disclosure. I generally believe in making space between a creator and their creations but I just don’t know how I could really enjoy TenNapel’s work after reading that hateful stuff. And I could not in good conscience support it financially.
I think this really should probably go to P&R and I made a thread for just such a purpose.
Back on topic, Privateer Press is about to launch a Kickstarter for a Warmachine video game. This is apparently a different project from the previous game they showed, which was real-time action-adventure while this one is turn-based tactics. It’s the same game studio, who seem to have been dormant for the last couple of years and don’t seem to have ever launched a product. I’m not too sanguine about its prospects, but I plan to keep an eye on it because Warmachine is awesome.
The Privateer thing sounds pretty cool, if they can actually make it happen. I’ve been wondering why something like this hasn’t happened sooner- a tabletop minis game making a straight-up transition to the digital realm. Not saying that’s what’s happening here, but it is perhaps a step in the right direction.
To expand on this a bit, I mean lots of minis are 3D modeled ahead of time now, from what I understand. Or, failing that, you can do a 3D scan of all your existing minis, so art assets are all taken care of via a (relative) minimum of effort, though you have to do animation still (or not if you take a cue from Card Hunter…). If you build in a relatively simple ‘painting’ scheme engine, you can even keep up the hobby side of things. A turn-based engine using the game’s actual rules shouldn’t be too hard.
It seems like you could draw a lot of people in to your product that otherwise wouldn’t be interested in the physical side of things- too much time to do all the painting, too much time to play a physical game with all the fiddlyness, going to a game store, arranging matches, etc. Dunno. I’d buy in.
Got the UPS shipping notice on the miniatures.
C’mon, almost a week from Texas to Boston? Isn’t that kind of slow?
Oh. Maybe that’s why.
I know this is the only way I could ever even conceivably be convinced to buy into a miniatures-based wargame. I’ve been wanting something of the sort for Warhammer 40K for ages, and it seems like a lot of people prefer Warmachine these days so I’d be tentatively interested there as well.
It isn’t very pretty, but a lot of people do play 40k online using the Vassal client. I tried to set it up once and didn’t have much luck, so I can’t tell you much about it, but I do know it’s functional enough that there’s a decent-sized community. A search for “vassal 40k” should get you started.
