Man, I wish that mecha game they had made it to Kickstarter. That thing looked SICK.
Agreed, was so disappointed when it missed the funding goal.

Myth: Journeyman, the follow-up to the Myth boardgame from a couple of years ago, is alive and kicking down the stretch goals. Myth is basically: deck builder + tactical miniature battles + dungeon crawling.
I’m particularly happy that they’re offering a revamped manual and reprinted cards for only $6. Version 1.0 had some big issues; with their backgrounds in mini wargaming, the creators took the approach of “if the rules ain’t fun, change them”. Lots of boardgamers had a problem with that and expected a more polished experience, which is understandable. But I’m glad they’ve worked through the issues and I’m excited about the new content and minis.

“Mephisto the Possum”?! I’m sold.
$6 or included with any of the higher tiers, mind you. And they’re all available in free PDF form, but it’s probably cheaper and easier for most people to get professionally printed versions at (supposedly, at least) below cost through this KS. Just so people don’t get all huffy about charging for a necessary update to a game that people already bought. :)

I was in on this right away just because anyone cribbing from old school SSI gold box games is a game I want to support but after watching the KS video I am even more excited.

Ugh, I wanna play this now, not in two years or something. Lame.

I noticed this is available as an EA title for $25 on Steam. It’s right up my alley, but that’s a lot to spend with an unknown developer. Anyone playing it?
I have Armello. It’s gorgeous, beautiful, fantastic! I’d describe it as a board game speedy 4x : no armies except your hero and a game lasts 16 turns (45min. - 1 hour). You still capture territories a bit, get upgrades and there are multiple victory conditions (although right now, one of them outclasses all the others).
But… after the first Early-Access rush, almost no one plays, so you won’t be able to get into a multiplayer game unless you spend the time to find a group.
The only place I’ve seen it talked about much is at Pocket Tactics. But all they’ve said is “The game is still a beta, so it’s not all rose petals and unicorn dreams, but it does play pretty darn nicely at this time if you want to give it a go.”

Lack of multiplayer doesn’t concern me. Sounds like I may just give it a shot.
Well, it is a board game, through and through, so playing against other humans just makes sense, although the AI is seviceable. But if you really don’t mind, it’s such a beautiful product that you’ll probably find a lot to like.

My copy of Myth has just been sitting there unused until I get the new rulebook. Such a mess to try and figure it out when it was first delivered. I sure hope the new rules have fixed everything, after all the extra playtesting, etc.
Haha, I didn’t want to mention that, but it did create a shitstorm. In fact, people whined so hard about Armello’s Kickstarter backer exclusives that some of them spilled over on Darkest Dungeon’s Early-Access launch… although every game with Kickstarter exclusives gets some drama on Steam forums.
I’m on the other side of the fence, though. What kind of video game “board game” creates exclusive functional pieces that are at a 50$ price point AND time exclusive? This isn’t a MMO. They’re the coolest heroes too! Ugh, day 1 DLC is bad enough, but day -365 DLC is just absurd. I don’t think it’s giving something “special” to special backers, it’s just trying to milk a lot more money out of (future) customers. And people used to think 2,50$ horse armor was abusive…
Well, since this is a general Kickstarter topic: are you guys for or against Kickstarter backer in-game exclusives?
I think Kickstarter DLC is the worst and I hate it, but if they get offered to the general public 6 months after launch, they’re okay I guess. Looking at other examples, that seems to be the best solution for everybody: developers make the most cash, latecomers feel less excluded (“Early Access” people are latecomers by that standard, lol) and backers get to have their exclusive doodad for as long as most people still actually care about the game.
Eh, there’s a sharp difference between exclusive functionality and exclusive looks.
(Also, exclusive physical stuff)
I’m generally against false scarcities like exclusives, but I do have to recognize that Kickstarter projects need some way to sell you on spending that money ahead of time, and Kickstarter exclusives certainly do that job. I think it’s a much less odious policy to keep those exclusives to the cosmetic, though, and I think the best policy of all is to give backers free extras that will be paid content for anyone coming in after launch. Sentinel Tactics, for example, threw in a bunch of extra villains and scenarios as stretch goals that got to the point where it was all wrapped up as an expansion, all free to backers but $20 MSRP.
Malkav - Works for me if it’s content :)
You just know some annoying people will go “Day 1 DLC” though :P
At what price? Sounds like the Arello developers compromised the integrity of their design. If you’re going to design a sleek boardgame-style game, what a shame that you then break it to sell it.
