The way they’ve run the Kickstarter looked as if they’ve analyzed what successful KS campaigns did … and then did the opposite. They were just lucky the stalled campaign picked up again, after no updates for a felt 10 days.

I have seen many kick starters do very well the first couple of days then stall and make another large rush of cash at the end of the campaign. This seems pretty normal to me.

They got their communication priorities wrong, and I’m pretty sure this cost them a good 5-digit sum. Mid campaign updates on May 19th & 26th and June 5th is too low frequency. Sometimes they posted the updates on the page for the first Kickstarter first, or even other updates exclusively on the game’s homepage. The updates they did were very detailed. They could easily split several of them in half and increase the posting frequency.
A “success” update is still missing.
On the positive side, they were in non-stop contact with the community in the comments section, they didn’t dodge questions and they were willing to learn how to create and upload a let’s play style video.

I saw this last night- looks like a combo of Brave New World and Sir Are you Being Hunted (for the Britishness and stealth aspects)

seems likely but not certain to be funded (needs another 30% or so in 2 weeks)

Nice logo.

Yeah, a lot of advance work was done for the style and theme. The game itself looks nice, but I don’t get the sense you do more than run around and hit people with bats.

Did we do this yet? Siboot, Chris Crawfords latest thing? Just 7 days (well 6) to save it!

We Happy Few has made, still < 3 days left. One stretch goal obtained, 15K from a Sandbox version.

Thanks for the heads up, I hadn’t heard about this. Backed!

I found this video very hard to sit through. Why didn’t Crawford just present it all?

Yeah, it definitely had some cringe-worthy moments.

I could not tell it the guy from Detroit was joking or serious.

Yeah, not the erm most professional of performances (they should have all taken magic mushrooms and done it to Jimmy Hendrix back ground music perhaps?) Ah well it may be we will all never fully benefit from Chris’ twenty year journey :(

I bounced pretty hard of Trust & Betrayal back in the day, even if i completely loved Eastern Front and Balance of Power (and also Guns or Butter which i think was a Mac game only?). Sometimes we can just fly too close to the sun?

Guys, Defect is pretty awesome. Build ships, have them stolen from you, build a new one and fight your old one. It’s wonderfully fun.

Here’s a new bit of Kickstarter fallout, with implications that relate to other non-Kickstarter games of potential interest to people on Qt3:

Hundreds of thousands of dollars of Homestuck game’s Kickstarter money stolen, partially used to develop King’s Quest and possibly Wayward Manor. (EDIT: The original post has since been deleted, by request of What Pumpkin. The link is now to a Pastebin of the full content of the post, since I still had the post open in another tab.)

“Over 8 months of development, TOG produced exactly one ‘playable build’. It is a single room, involving one character, no animation, and almost no other key features. Virtually nothing works properly. It was submitted in February of 2014, and no improvements or additional versions were submitted beyond that date.”

There’s discussion in the High Frontier thread itself that I completely missed because I tend to skim over threads I haven’t posted in, but in case there are people out there like me who a) are interested in High Frontier and b) were unable to get it because it was out of print, the 3rd edition deluxe reprint Kickstarter is live here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/highfrontier/high-frontier-0

wow, a 48 page rule book. They’re not kidding when they say this game isn’t for wimps. I love how one review schools individuals on being lazy and having a public education and the completely butchers the word he’s using to point that out.

It was kind of fun just reading up on the game at least.

It’s not that complex, really, and the new rulebook (found a link) it’s even easier to understand than the current one. But you will need a comitted group of players.
