Man, I really should have cooked up a good scam when the getting was good with this shit. Daddy needs a new pair of rainboots!

I mean, get it. Soule’s a busy guy. He’s still actively composing stuff for current games. He’s doing movie and TV work. He’s got some business thing starting up. The Kickstarter was only for about $120k, so compared to some of his other projects, I’m sure it’s peanuts.
That said, I think you have an obligation to work on a Kickstarter if you said it was going to be delivered by a certain date. If you miss that date, you don’t just say “fuck it” and move on to other stuff. You keep working on the project until it’s done and you deliver.

Exactly, if the campaign wasn’t enough money to be a priority to get done in the time allotted, then cancel it or expand the amount of money required for it. Maybe make it take four years and add stretch goals for it to be sooner. But the contract was made that you would create this product for these people and taking on other projects that make it a lower priority shows your true contempt for these same people.

Morally, sure but there’s no penalty and no real consequence for just blowing off a Kickstarter. He’s not the last or the first to say thanks for the money, but I am doing other things right now.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Kickstarter estimated delivery dates are pure guesses at best, complete fiction at worst. I’ve backed over 200 Kickstarters (and counting) and I could probably count the number of them that delivered on or ahead of schedule on my fingers. Probably on one hand. I wouldn’t be able to do that with the number that are/were at least a year past that projection. And yet, the vast majority have eventually delivered or are on track to do so and I’ve enjoyed almost all of the results. So my advice is to just ignore that any such estimate has been made. Get upset if it looks like the project has been abandoned, not because some arbitrary date has been reached and it’s not done.
Only 13 days left, and it hasn’t hit the half way mark yet, doesn’t look good.
It feels a bit… Half hearted. The updates have been a bit slow in coming, for example, and they all have a “meh” feeling to them. It’s a damned shame.
A world where Descent Underground gets funded and this one doesn’t is a heartless and cruel place. If only they’d gotten to the table first.

They’ve updated just about every two days…
Chronicles of Elyria (how to describe it quickly!? Say, low-scale MMORPG with aging and reincarnation through family and bloodlines) announced Kickstarter for May 3, they’ll be asking for $900 000.
Here is some early footage and couple screenshots.
Huh. I was excited at first, as it looks like Heroscape: the video game. But then there’s no mention of customizable terrain (the big deal) , only Vikings (no robots, gunslingers, dragons, aliens, etc.). meh.

Why doesn’t someone Kickstart this?
Edit: Time to break out the Heroscape box. It’s been too long.
I played it a few weeks ago with my friend’s kids while babysitting them (age 7 and 11). The box has been stored in the garage at their place for a while, and they’re always asking about it. So, we hauled it out and built a wacky map, and chose all sorts of crazy units (I have most of them). Good fun.
I keep meaning to build a 6x4 table sized map with my HS terrain to play some Designer’s Edition Ogre with even huger hexes!
Bear Simulator dev throws up his hands and calls it quits on the game even after a successful Kickstarter and Steam launch.
Well the game didn’t have a great reception, has a stigma against it’s name and there’s plenty of other problems so making any updates or going further is basically a lost cause now. Plus not skilled enough to make the game better than it currently is or write better updates than previously.
Was really hoping the Steam release would go well but why would it, should have just gave the game to backers and not bother with Steam.
Also don’t want to deal with the drama anymore. Can’t ignore it because that causes more drama and can’t do anything about it because that causes more drama.
It was really fun making the game, trailers, updates, websites, tutorials, blog posts and stuff, hopefully you all liked those things.
Am glad most of you guys are happy with the game though, unless you were just being nice >.> Really must thank you for the in-depth emails and comments, learned lots. Hopefully the game lived up to your expectations and had enough content to explore.
Will make another game update with Kickstarter Island included and some other fixes, leave a comment below of what you really want fixed. Will work on fixes and features until you’re all happy and content then stop.
Must be doing this PC game dev thing wrong because it is way too hard to stay happy and productive.
Someone’s just mad that their work turned into a job.
Now a full year late and not even to Beta, That Which Sleeps remains mired in development hell, apparently. But luckily, the team is working so hard they literally didn’t even have time to send out their monthly email for the last few months!
They have also pulled preorders after a raft of chargebacks and refund-requests, apparently.
Pity–I was really looking forward to this!
I’m still hopeful on that one, but a bit more progress and release of any code would go a long way to getting the angry mob off their backs.
Yeah, I am concerned, but far from ready to give up.
As I watched their videos, I always had the sense that they had an extremely complex vision, and I am guessing that they are having to make some tough choices what to leave in and what to take out… I suspect that indecisiveness regarding this would delay communication, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll fail in the long run.
My fingers are crossed!
