I never got to the end game so I can’t comment much on that… As an aside, is ANY endgame ever fun or good? I made 13 characters and took them to T2 and a few to T3 and T2 was the most fun I ever had PVP’ing. Also, I loved the battlegrounds in Warhammer Online :-)
Indeed. Which is why the people (and the complexity of all that, say compare David Braben to Richard Garriot etc) and the pitch (and here David Braben nearly screwed up!) is so important for these ‘near AAA money’ game pitches. For my money if your asking for over 1 million you have to have something to lose (reputation and the long term fallout from that), so you need to be a known and loved game person, and you need to show you are passionate for the project and invested in it to the max.
But sure, one day will we see a +1 million KS ‘heist’, some of the things that are getting funded already show a certain lack of risk assessment in general in the KS system? But that is classic investment pattern, you take a punt with your money every time to (preferably) gain something. I’m ready for when i lose my bid money one day (so i tend to have a set limit, no matter the game).
Looks like there won’t be levelling or drops from PVE. Just a laser like focus on RVR and crafting. Back in the day I enjoyed DAOC RVR but the shared realm dungeons and roaming PVE were a nice distraction too. I think all RVR all of the time will be like a cake that’s all filling and no sponge. Still, early days. Not that I’d pledge, too many MMOs end up shite even with colossal budgets.

Infinite Space 3: Sea of Stars just launched (it’s the sequel to Strange Adventures in Infinite Space and its sequel, Weird Worlds).
It was a genre-busting indie classic, with 8-bit graphics not because it was hip and retro but because I based its graphics engine largely on “Windows Game Programming for Dummies”.
Timber and Stone is in its final beta release, v1.0 should be here soon. I know a few people here backed it.

Huh, how did I miss this one when it was kickstarting? That looks pretty neat. I’m in for a preorder…has anyone been playing the beta? If so, what do you think?

Was Divinity Original Sins brought up in this thread? Isometric turn base combat RPG game
It has been, but it’s worth bringing up more than once. Seriously awesome looking game, and with the exception of Beyond Divinity (which they acknowledged today was a bad game rushed out because of cash flow issues because they got no royalties whatsoever from the fantastic Divine Divinity. Which is frankly criminal.) they have an excellent track record.
Everyone who ordered will find out tomorrow!
1.0 on Tuesday
Posted on April 7, 2013
We will be seeing the first public release of Timber and Stone (1.0) on Tuesday, the 9th. Tomorrow will be the last day to get a donation in for a pre-order at the reduced price. No more beta tier donations are going to be accepted, as the beta process is nearly over.
Another ‘problem’ Kickstarter, and i didn’t even know about this one when it was running.
‘Gamestick console release date delayed’:
Via the Legends of Eisenwald guys, here’s a Kickstarter for a Fire Emblem-like tactical RPG, Telepath Tactics.
Looks promising, appreciate the heads-up.
Tried out Timber and Stone. My guys won’t do anything. I select a bunch of trees to chop down, nothing. I right click on a tree with my lumberjack selected, nothing. I realize he doesn’t have an axe equipped and equip it, then i repeat the previous steps, nothing.
Nothing obvious in controls menu.
Maybe i will have to go check out the official forums later to see if it is possible to get my people to do anything.
Do you have to tell lumberjack to chop down trees etc? I do not have game yet but remember watching youtube and they checked off something about chopping.
You have to equip the axe in his hands then tell him to chop a tree, same goes for miners. Equip pickaxe and mine blocks.
I am not sure how to harvest stuff off shrubs, but I have so far built an anvil and started a wall.
Game is still very much BETA in feeling.
I tried this.

edit: got this working. Not sure why it didn’t work in the previous game. The game seems very rough and with very unfriendly. Not sure if dwarf fortress was like this too.

This guy has released a number of these style of games in the past. This one looks like a more polished version of his earlier work. I mention that to let you know that he has a track record of completing and delivering games, which is often a concern with small Kickstarters.

Old school schmup by the some of the guys who did STALKER: Humans Must Answer
They are near their modest target but less than 12 hours to go. I backed it for 7 pounds.
Jeremy Soule, music maestro for Skyrim, Guild Wars, Morrowind, KOTOR, and countless others has a teeny $10K Kickstarter for a new music album. The Northerner. It’s already funded and on it’s way to hitting $100K.
