12 hours left for the Myth board game KS. It’s a co-op fantasy RPG-lite type. The Kingdom Death: Monster creator got involved and the pledges have shot up to 670K now overall. Pretty crazy how well this one is finishing up. The $100 pledge level now comes with over 150+ miniatures and seems like a pretty amazing value.

Myth co-op board game Kickstarter

What sets the gameplay for this title apart from others?

Goddamn it, you got me. I’m a sucker for miniatures, and I want it for those even though I probably won’t ever get to play the damn game.

Come spend some time at my house and we will :)

Myth is seeing one of the craziest late-project surges I can recall. There’s been something like 10 times as much pledged in the past 24 hours as in the first 24 of the project, and it’s gone up like $125k in the last five hours or so. Kicktraq has failed to compensate and is still trending for $700k when the project’s already at $709k and counting.

Granted, it’s a -way- more tempting prospect now that $100 gets you four additional enemy factions complete with bosses (vs the original two factions w/ one boss), another 15 tiles, 5 additional minibosses (vs one in the standard box), an additional hero, ten new story quests (these being the overarching game-long quests - ten is over double the base number), an exclusive follower, sculpts for lairs and traps, and hero card sleeves. And they’ve added a bunch of optional addons including two more hero characters, a trio of enemy agents that are billed as being recurring villains roughly as powerful as the heroes, an optional boss, and some more treasure and quest cards.

Does the gameplay look good though?

It did to me. There’s a six part series of videos of the designers and their wives playing a session of it that should give you some idea what it looks like. My main concerns at this point are whether the enemies will be varied enough to keep things interesting (I doubt that would be the case without the stretch goal content), and how meaty the quest system will be.

Thanks for the tip. That looks pretty sweet, and I went ahead and ordered a copy – my biggest pledge by far.

Yeah, I actually had pledged this earlier but withdrew because the enemy variety seemed so vanilla. But with the huge push this week, I re-pledged now that almost all the stretch goals were met. The base game seems horribly crippled compared to what you get from the Kickstarter. I’ll wait on optional add-ons since there’s only one KS exclusive (the spriggan) and that’s only the model portion. The hero deck the spriggan uses will be the same one that the druid uses when that’s released sometime later.

I thought the 800k stretch would be out of reach but it’s getting closer! Only 52k away with 8 hours to go…who knows?

Yeah, I also held off on the optional add-ons. There doesn’t seem to be a huge advantage for buying them in advance, so might as well wait to see how much we like the game and if we want more content for it. And yeah, the base game for $90 seems pretty sad value-wise compared to what we’re getting.

Like I ever make it out to Saturn.

Crap Timing, No Cash right now for that but it looks amazing. So Sad I already blew my budget on other things. I would suggest to everyone to really look at the addons, there is very cool stuff here (Like the Spriggan and Skald heroes) I Calculated 100 For the Game with Stretchgoal and all the addons that you do not get in any pledge Level cost 145 additionally. Ouch.

$779K now and I couldn’t resist the incredible amount of goodies the stretch goals have added to the game. Thanks for the heads up.

If anyone’s interested in doujin shmups, the Alltynex Kickstarter passed its goal a little bit ago. That’s for localizations of three Japanese indie PC games, Alltynex Second, RefleX, and Kamui.

Important stretch goal: If they pass the $28,000 mark, the first 450 backers at the $45 level will receive a limited-edition retail set that includes a physical guide book (which everyone pledging $25 or more will receive in PDF form if they pass the $12,000 mark) and a three-disc set including all three games and their soundtracks.

The Myth kickstarter brings to mind the Sedition Wars kickstarter, which I drooled over (again because of the minis) but did not back because what little they would say about the rules sounded Not Good to me. Which, reading the reviews just now on BGG, turned out to be the case.

Just glancing at Myth, my suspicion is that it’s going to be a much more interesting game. Plus, while it’s a conflict game, which doesn’t fly well with my wife and MIL, it’s a co-op game, which is much more acceptable that conflict with other players to them. Still probably won’t happen, though.

I pledged for most of the optional addons (not the Slaughterfield cards, since that’s a mode I know nothing about and am questionably interested in; and not the optional tiles addon since that appears to be largely cosmetic) because while none of that content is technically exclusive to the Kickstarter, the additional variety it provides could make a big difference to my enjoyment of the game, and there’s likely to be some delay between the game being released and the addon content becoming widely available. Assuming it ever does become widely available.

25 minutes to go and it’s now over 900K, which means that we also get a Fire Drake boss on top of all the other add on goodies: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1700755582/myth-0/posts/462611

The $100 to get it all (I think there is enough base game for me to skip the add ons for now) is sounding more reasonable all the time.

The dragon boss is a great ending to this - I can’t believe it made it all the way past 900K last night. I’m still amazed at how much value they’re cramming into this, especially with only $13 shipping if you’re overseas. I hope they didn’t vastly underestimate how much it’ll cost them to ship everything.

One thing they mention in the comments is that the boxes ship out of Germany. Maybe they will have a container shipment sent to the US to then forward those orders? In any case, it means that those of us who ordered from Europe shouldn’t end up costing the company that much more money. However, $13 still seems very reasonable considering the likely final bulk and weight of the boxes to ship.

Count me in as one of the peeps who jumped in on Myth in the last day. I remembered looking at it a week or two ago- I’d been given the heads-up by a gaming friend of mine who knows I like co-op dungeon crawls. I went and had a look at that time, looked at what was in the box, and decided it wasn’t worth it- after all, I’d just done the similar Kingdom Death KS a few months ago. I was on the 'geek yesterday morning, saw an ad and clicked through to see how it was doing. It was around 500k at that point, and I saw they’d added a LOT more stuff, and wow, it might actually be worth it now, just for the sheer volume of stuff at the price. Woke up today to it just ending, and whoa, over 900k! That’s amazing. The dragon, Cyclops boss, everything looks neat.

I wonder how KS projects like this that essentially give away the moon for nothing are going to do once they hit retail. Did everyone who’s interested do the calculus I did, and realize that they could just spend $100 now for what would cost them $250+ at retail and just jump on at the last minute? Does that cannibalize their future retail sales? Will customers who see that retail box with much, much less in it be enticed to buy, and especially what about the potential customers who play their friends’ KS-stuffed copies thinking that they would either have a gimped experience or have to pay an amazing amount the get the same thing they just played and think “nah, I won’t bother, not worth it”. Interesting stuff. I’ll say (as anecdotal evidence) that the copies of Zombicide, Sedition Wars and Battleball at my FLGS just seem to be sitting on the shelf with no interest from anyone.

And since this is the KS thread, does anyone know what the best KS site would be to use for a very small-run boardgaming project, that I want to actually limit the amount of units made. I’m thinking of doing an unofficial expansion for a boardgame I like (using no copyrighted material from the official game), and I think I have the capacity to put together either 50 or 100 copies. I don’t want to do more than that (and frankly, I doubt there’d be enough interest). Is there a CF site that would let me do that?
