I’m not convinced that Myth out-of-box would be a game experience worth an $89 MSRP when you can buy things like Descent Second Edition for about $55 right now. It seems like a pretty decent core game system, don’t get me wrong, but having two types of monster with only one miniboss and boss seems like it would only support a few plays worth of variety before you’d need additional content. The Kickstarter edition, by contrast, should be nice and meaty. So yeah, I think they’ve hurt themselves at retail. But I don’t think that’s necessarily the case for all such projects. Zombicide, for example, seems like you get a pretty complete game experience in the box and the Kickstarter extras were just that - extras. You get a lot of stuff, certainly, and it was a no brainer for me to snag the game as part of their season 2 Kickstarter instead of at retail, but if I’d missed that chance I wouldn’t balk at buying it retail.

Pen-and-paper people: the Obsidian Reforged KS ends in 48 hours. From the KS:
Obsidian Portal is the award-winning online campaign management system for tabletop role-playing games. We want to revitalize the existing Obsidian Portal by increasing its functionality, adding new features, and cleaning up the design.
I’m in at $50. I can’t wait.
Was at a presentation/meetup with Ole from Krillbite (small Norwegian indie developer) a couple of days ago. Haven’t noticed any mention of it here, so I just thought I’d point out that their KS for Among the Sleep has gone live.
First-person horror, from the perspective of a two-year old child. What’s not to like?

Just stumbled upon C-Wars, rogue like pixel art tower defense game by Chinese developer. They already have a playable demo and it looked really nice. It’s already reached its funding goal.

whoa 30 minute double post!
habibi is a chinese kickstarter game spammer, the evidence is indisputable! :p
I’m in. I like creative, unusual approaches to first person games and this fits the bill.
The in game videos and this statement from the FAQ sealed the deal:
What is the childs goal?
The child must find his way through dark and mysterious environments while searching for safety and comfort, which is ultimately to be reunited with your family.
Being a two year old child severely limits your options to affect the game world and likely the story in general. It is a huge negative to me in any game or story.
Does seem to have potential.
The demo was fun, if albeit rough. I hesitate to really call this a tower defense game though.
The strategy around this game seems to be mobility. Your units are ranged, the enemy is all melee. You can’t win in a face to face fight so you need to micro your units to move away from the enemy’s meleers while still shooting them. The enemy seems to have fewer, more powerful units as well, so the trick seems to be keeping your kill speed high enough to get item rewards to heal your main character who sucks beyond belief (if he could clone himself 3 times so there were 4 of him, and they all attacked the enemy boss at the same time, he might win, maybe) and also to generate enough money to get a lot of gunners. None of the troops seem to be able to take much damage so i eventually just screen my snipers with the mid level shooters who can at least take a little more.

Ha ha! I had some problem with network and Tapatalk tells me I’ve not posted yet, so there.
This game does have very good pixel art animation, I must admit. I’m not good at Tower Defense but I’m attracted to the animation and rogue like concept. And for $10, why not??

The developers of the failed Ars Magica kickstarter are back, this time with a gamebook in the Fighting Fantasy vein: Holdfast. It will be available as an app for Android, Mac, or PC, and at $5 seems pretty affordable.

For those of you who are into tabletop face-to-face RPGs in meatspace, the dwarven forge kickstarter for in game terrain is drawing to a close in about 5 hours.
If anybody here remembers the early social web-game SissyFight, there’s a Kickstarter that just launched today to remake it completely in HTML5, and then open-source it. Eric Zimmerman (of GDC Game Design Challenge), one of the original creators, is behind this re-make.
There’s a weird angle of “preservation for posterity” that I’m not sure I entirely agree with, but I guess it’s in keeping with Zimmerman’s general penchant for self-promotion. It’s gotten a little coverage already from PAR.
This, I believe I do want. STONEHEARTH! I am a sucker for these types of games.
I wonder if it will be more user friendly than Timber and Stone, which I find a bit meh. :(

Amazon Payments has crashed and KS projects cannot collect money. This is most notably going to effect Camelot Unchained, in its last 36 hours and still $250K down.
It only takes a refresh or two to get it working. At least it did for me.
edit: Oh you mean the frontend for paying? No, just slow all today.
The Camelot Unchained fans apparently managed to annoy a few news outlets with form emails blasted to journalists: http://www.penny-arcade.com/report/article/spam-and-kickstarter-how-fans-of-camelot-unchained-made-sure-the-press-woul
It made the CU fans angry, but I think the underlying message is valid and should be taken to heart: If you care about a KS project and would like to see it covered, don’t indiscriminately mass email a form email. Write to the outlets your normally read and to people in particular who you think might be interested. It’s less likely to be dismissed as spam that way.
