That’s an excellent idea, at least for cases where it’s mostly about orientation and not overall alignment. I wonder if it would shed enough light to see the socket properly?
Probably not, but my USB sockets on my PC have a blue LED edge glow, so finding them isn’t the problem :)

Hex, a TCG/MMO from the guys behind the WoW TCG, which is excellent. I’ve always thought that boring combat was the biggest downfall of MMOs, so if this can make an engaging core card-playing experience and leaven it with the social/persistence/progression features of an MMO, it could be huge. It’s also built with a focus on draft play, which has always been my favorite format.
Is Wiz 101 considered a TCG?

Not sure; I never played it.

Stonehearth is doing very well into week two. They are well over the goal and the lowest day they have ever had was $15K.
Woohoo, I’m hoping for coop.

That looks quite interesting. Though, the whole MMO thing is a little bit of a turn-off for me (gut-reaction) I see how it could really add to this game. Not sure if I’ll back it, but its going on the watch list for sure.
Hex looks interesting, but wow that was an odd pitch video.
Hey guys, I’m the lead PvE designer for HEX if anyone has any questions.
And haha, yeah. Cory’s video for this is amazing. I loved it, but it is a bit odd.

First few questions I have after watching the video:
Is there going to be a subscription fee? That’s one thing I never liked about MMOs. Assuming no subscription fees, is it otherwise completely F2P?
Will the game be playable for people who want a single player experience? Occasional one-off PvP battles are fine but I don’t want a game where I feel obligated to log in all the time to do battles with my friends.
What is the penalty for losing a PvP battle? Do you lose a card from your deck? or Experience pts? or whatever?
Finally, the kickstarter says PC and Mac. Any plans on bringing it to mobile and/or tablets?
Anyway, I thought the video was pretty good. And good luck with the campaign.
It is completely F2P. We do have an optional subscription, but it just gives you packs monthly at a better rate then buying them directly off the store, and a neat little badge for your avatar.
The single player game is designed such that you can completely ignore PvP. We’re treating them as two separate things for different players. You can certainly do both, but if all you want to do is the campaign, dungeons, and raids your experience won’t be limited in any way. There is nothing you “get” from PvP that means anything to single player – PvP is entirely there for competitive players.
There is no penalty for losing a PvP battle, other then not getting a higher rank in tournaments. The entire PvP system is exactly like any professional card game today (eg, WoW: TCG or MtG.)
The tech of the client is built from the ground up for tablets and mobile. We didn’t announce it on the KS because the client flow and art requirements for porting to mobile/tablet is pretty high, so we won’t be able to launch them all at the same time. We absolutely intend to put out mobile and tablet, though.

Will accounts/libraries be cross-platform once these versions are released?
The Penny Arcade guys loved the WoW TCG and they love kickstarters, so I wonder if they’ll go to bat for this. If they do it’ll hit the goal no problem.

And Cryptozoic did the Penny Arcade CCG.
And, for what its worth, they have sort of started going to bat for this: https://twitter.com/cwgabriel/status/332214589238423552
Yes. HEX is turn based (like most TCGs), so we didn’t see a reason to limit which platforms could play with each other. You can log in from anywhere to the same account.

I don’t get the MMO part of Hex. I get character progression, armor, items, etc., but do you actually wander about in a game world and then switch to the cards for combat? Do I have an animated avatar that moves around in the world?
Also, the complexity of the game seems high. Cards you flip to get an ability on the back of the card and then you can flip again for a different ability? Socketing gems in cards? Armor? Character classes that affect the cards? Three hundred and sixty cards in the initial set, and three card updates per year? My reaction to it is that it will be a game that requires a lot of time and effort to play well rather than something I can jump into.
Penny Arcade again. $10 goal, so the Kickstarter will get funded no matter what. Already at $59K.
Hilariously, this is their own comic from back in the day. Check out the goal price:
Obviously, the forum explosion/outrage is the most entertaining thing.
Yeah, I can see this being against the spirit of Kickstarter, but on the other hand, there is a kind of honesty about it. He admits that the effort is basically “turn on microphones” (I guess the marginal hosting costs are negligible), so it’s more of a pledge drive / PR page than anything else.
I think it’s pretty clear it’s a semi-troll though.
