Sadly, it appears that the very interesting-sounding Kingsport Cases is not going to make its goal.
I checked it out, but it was too sexist for me. Their La Duchess character looked cool, but Nova Girl and, ahem, Wall Climber were just a bit too out there.
They’ve met their goal, so I hope you end up having a lot of fun with the finished game.
Okay…It’s on the list :)
triggercut - They just did it by pledging on their own KS. That has to be…oh my.
Well, that’s going to be…interesting. At least they were up front about it, I suppose. I still think that even if Kickstarter doesn’t crack down on them it’s very much against the spirit and purpose of the site.
Putting $8,000 into your $20,000 KS (40% of the funds) to prevent your studio from going under for a game that’s supposed to have another 8+ months of development before release seems potentially hazardous for backers, if you ask me.

Yes I had the same concerns, but I'm really starved for a good thematic superhero game I dealt with it. I've been working on my own, but its a good six month till its ready for anything resembling beta...and its completely different scale.
Extremely.
The game sounded somewhat interesting I guess, but after watching some video of the gameplay, I couldn’t do it.
The most scary part of the game looks to be the normal people who look like comical zombies and have no animation. I’m generally accepting of games without AAA graphics, but I have to draw the line somewhere.
I’d guess/hope these are all place holders and if that is the case, losing nearly half of their funding just makes it sound more damning.
For me it’s an arc:
Lovecraft-based game? Ooh.
Investigatory, with no combat and Amnesia-style monsters that are too terrible to face directly? Ooh.
Completely procedurally generated? Oh, nevermind.
From videos:
A picture of normal residents (not zombies, not monsters, not old gods)
Note: there is no animation so they just stand there with their arms out like a mannequin.
And apparently it is a violation of the Kickstarter terms. Kickstarter is refunding backers’ pledges. I guess this means the Kickstarter for Kingsport Cases is cancelled.

Of course it is - Basically, it means you can potentially use the backers money to double the amount the kickstarter ends with. On paper, that is.
Massive Chalice sounds wonderful but I can’t keep kickstarting like this.
I keep saying that too. And I haven’t pledged to Massive Chalice but I keep looking at the page and reading about it and thinking “hey, 20 bucks isn’t that much, and I don’t have to pay for a month, and it sounds cool and…”
… I can feel my willpower slipping.
Well said Tony, think I’m going to frame that and hang it over my desk.

I was sad to see the way the Kingsport Cases Kickstarter wrapped up. I don’t yet see any comments from the dev team since the funding was rescinded. You can still vote for the game on Steam’s Greenlight program, so I encourage everyone to do so.
The rough graphical nature of the game was jarring. I couldn’t believe those grotesque mannequins were actually people, but I actually enjoyed the atmosphere. I’m hoping they find a way to keep the train running.
they develop terrain deformation tech to rival the bullshot renders Sony presented as Motorstorm back in '05, then use it to make… Dirt Truck Simulator 4000.
facepalm.
would have totally backed this if it was an offroad racing game. What they have at the moment would be cool as a bonus mode within that hypothetical racing game but as a standalone thing? Nah.

I know Pat Rothfuss is popular and all, but this is pretty crazy: Name of the Wind themed playing cards has $365,851 in pledges so far (3,656% of their goal).
Also, John Szczepaniak is kickstarting a book called The Untold History of Japanese Game Developers which sounds like it could turn out very interesting.
Yeah, that seems crazy. They are playing cards. I guess I don’t have the collector’s mentality because that’s all I see driving that Kickstarter – bunch of collectors wanting decks they can resell.
Why are 100 poker chips $100? That is insane.

Cthulhu Wars by Sandy Peterson, of Cthulhu RPG fame. It’s a strategy/horror board game where the players control Great Old Ones and use their factions to take over the world. Apparently it’s been playtested since last November and is in a final state. Tons of planned expansions, maps, etc.

It’s currently at $450,000 from a $40,000 goal.
