Hmm, that must be the result of his aborted iOS Cthulhu World Combat kickstarter. I remember him saying in his last update (before canceling the kickstarter) was that he planned on coming back with a physical board game version. Glad to see it fly.
EDIT: wow, the miniatures look fantastic. Looks awesome.
He’s done something very clever - he’s got a bunch of “early bird” limited tiers for the same item, so the price for the full game keeps edging up as more people pledge.
Personally, I’m not seeing it as a $140+ game, but it’s clear that enough people do that it’s another runaway. These games with neat miniatures often draw me in, but grotesques aren’t my thing, you don’t get that many miniatures with the game compared to some of the Kickstarters I’ve backed, and stretch goals have all been mostly about greenlighting more expansions you can pay for, rather than improving the value of the existing tiers like the Reaper Miniatures kickstarter. Some of the miniatures are really big, which is probably one factor driving the price.
Those miniatures are a thing of beauty. I am seriously tempted to get in on this but having seen how massive the OGRE box is from a recent update, I’m a little nervous about my wife’s reaction when that thing turns up on our doorstep. I don’t think I can go with anymore board game Kickstarters. But I think I would certainly go for some Cthulhu goodness, if I could.
I’m halfway through a project of relocating all my boardgames to another room, my wife knows how much space they take up. When she sees the Ogre box arrive, she is going to freak the fuck out!! :P
I am thinking of having my boys and I carry the box together into the house just for the drama!
I just grabbed the Cthulhu Wars against my better judgement. I figured I would lock in on the early bird one that popped up and then debate for the next 20 days if I really want it. I don’t like the stretch goals just being opportunities to buy them since they’ll probably make them anyway. They had the same deal with Kingdom Death, though I backed that also.
My problem is I don’t have anyone to play with and I’ve been buying other games here and there (thanks to TableTop). Any suggestions on where to find groups?
Edit: and that Myth game…wtf is with me?
My rationalization was that Myth can be played solitaire.
I would look at guilds/groups on boardgamegeek. Where do you live?
GeeWhiz - I’m in NY, live on Long Island and work in the city. I’ll check out BGG and see what I can find. Thanks!

LOL I hear its famously tough to find people in New York. Theres probably not another boardgamer within hundreds of miles. ;)
I’m sure they’re out there, but I don’t seem to notice any shops. I’m going to start asking random folks during my train commute and see if I come out of it unharmed :)

I’m really curious why there is not more buzz about this. Superhero board game with some depth are kind of rare, good ones rarer. I see people having issue with some of the art…the veteran ark looks much better by the way…less 13 old centric. I’m really curious why this one isn’t pulling more in…I’m watching it everyday and sweating that we wont get to 100K 4 hero bonus! Really Really want that one!
Oh, hey there. This is nice and close to where I work. Looks like sometime next week I need to do some lunchtime exploration of the neighborhood. Very much appreciated!

Cthulhu Wars broke my will and I failed a sanity check. I’m now balls deep for everything :(

Cthulhu Wars looks neat. Not $140 neat.
Just got an email from Reaper asking if my address is correct before they ship the miniatures. That one has been a long time coming.
Cthulhu Wars may be the first pledge that I cancel. I like expansions that offer new forms of play and options but I think lining up 10 expansions at $48 each is off-putting. I already have Chaos in the Old World and paying $180 for a Cthulhu version of that doesn’t make any sense at all.

Kingsport Cases is officially dead.
http://www.kingsportcases.com/2013/06/an-official-statement.html
At this point, we’ve determined that pre-orders or another crowdsourcing campaign will not get us to where we need in funding, as we do not feel the interest in our project stretches very far. As such, The Kingsport Cases will be going dark.
